I am a long-time chiropractic patient and I have to say that today I was impressed! I had initially made an appointment with Rene Rodriguez, an AMAZING massage therapist, specializing in NMT(Neuromuscular Therapy) who works in Dr. Duran’s office.(Yep, I am also a massage therapist, so I should know the guy is GOOD). OK, so I walk in, there’s FITNESS equipment in this place… Chiropractic office? Rene introduces me to young Dr. Duran(um, who looks like he could be some kind of a fitness model, btw?) and I immediately go «Oh — you’re a chiropractor?» And I explained that I probably needed to see a DC because I thought I had a pinched nerve in my shoulder/neck area).” Which is what I really was planning to do if the 2nd massage with Rene did not help the stabbing pain in my neck and scapula that had started to concern me. No sooner had I said that, the doc goes«Well, come on, let’s take a look.» Rene gave me a «don’t worry, take advantage» look and Dr. Duran proceeded to give me an adjustment, and put me through a full range of movements in Rene’s massage room, joking with Rene about the recently broken A/C(which, incidentally, started up again after about 10 minutes). Never charged me a thing, but gave me a bunch of his cards. I later found out that he believes in strength training, a la physical therapy(which explains the exercise equipment!) How brilliant is that? Finally! THat is a first for me. I’ve had chiropractors recommend stretching, even yoga, but not strength training with aerobic equipment! These guys have a great vibe, great energy, they’re obviously friends and seem to know what they are doing. It hasn’t been 24 hours and the pain is gone… thanks to the adjustment by Duran combined with Rene’s ½ hour massage! Chiropractic and massage always work well together, but this is hands down my new favorite duo.
