I’m pretty sure this is where Michael Mann went to design the sets of Miami Vice. (No, seriously. It was here back then, and my mom definitely got lots of contemporary nicknacks for the house there… and our houses were used to film the interior scenes of Miami Vice. It’s totally where he honed his sense of style.) The Too-Low coffee table trend? Yeah, that started here at Arango. Want that«Conversation Piece» artsy, chrome, pointy Tea Kettle for $ 300? We had it. Got it here. Looking for that Deco-esque Stainless Steel citrus juicer that Barry Sonnenfield used as a SPACESHIP in Men In Black? Yup, that’s available here, too. There’s platform beds, kids’ desks and seating, wall clocks, giant wall-sized calendars(totally had that too!), end tables, art, silverware, kitchenware, and so much more. Amazing what fits to display in such a small storefront. And it’s all totally my style. And Michael Mann’s.

For those who favor a design aesthetic that expresses function through form, arango is a veritable haven. Inventive housewares for the futuristic Martha Stewart, sleek office supplies for today’s ‘mad man’, and even a wallet made out of an Airmail envelope. Can’t believe this out-of-the-ordinary store resides in a mall that largely caters to chain retailers. Keep it in mind this holiday season and don’t miss their sales!

This is my secret place I go to when I want to find the perfect gift for my ‘too cool to be hip” friends who have stylized homes or even offices and I want to find just the right touch for their desk or bookshelf. But it is also for my friends who appreciate color, design, and beauty, plus interesting pieces that can be described in no other better word than«knick-knacks». Arango provides me with a welcome distraction from the madness that is Dadeland mall– it simply does not belong there. It’s an adult Toy Store.(and not the kind of the buzzing toy variety) that turns you back into that child that has to pick up and play with the different cubes, boxes, and shapes that are within your grasp. And watch out, cause if you break it, you will buy it… and it won’t be cheap. I’ve been gifted book ends, cool desktop calendars, cd shelves, and other random but eye-catching pieces from here that never fail to start up a conversation or gain a few admirers. I expect to one day have many pieces from here in my dream home/condo/yacht.

Design should be pragamatic first and beautiful a close second. I’ve been going to Arango for years. I stop in to pick up one thing and instantly finding myself caught under the Arango spell of good, clean design and nice colors. I suddenly want that yellow desk set, that key chain with the heart, the eye glass case with the eye chart on it. I want it all, including all the magazines. Service is always polite and knowledgeable. I’m surprised more people don’t know Arango it’s been around 50+ years. It’s a Miami staple of design. I only wish there were a few more shops.

i love arango. everything is modern with such great lines. whoever picks what they’re gonna sell gets a gold star in my book. i’ve gotten everything from business card holders, to shelving, desk accessories, to pens, to vases, to whatever. now did you notice i didn’t list of anything big?! that’s cause this stuff can be pricey. but it’s all so damn cool. if everything were a tiny bit cheaper and the store a little bit larger… arango, you’d be 5 stars in my book. or maybe just make the back of the store into a sale section. yes, that would rock!

Arango is the perfect store for design-o-philes, either those who work in the creative industry or for those who fetishize beautiful/functional objects in their home décor. It’s the closest thing to the MOMA gift shop that I can find in South Miami and is conveniently located at the Dadeland Mall. Perfect place to find a beautiful gift for friends with good taste. Got a gifted kid? Try the magnetic cubic sphere that you can take apart and put together. A coworker might appreciate a muji-like polished aluminum business card holder. A chef friend might dig those Alessi wares. A graphic designer would love those Marimekko bed sheets. Plus, they have floor samples of high-end furniture pieces you might see in high décor magazines. It’s a great place to linger and wish you were a Google millionaire so you could buy everything inside it.
