Avoid their Spinach Calzone. The Special, which is $ 5.99 for a soda, and 2slices of cheese pizza is probably the«safe bet» to go with here. While eating here we were approached twice by different homeless people begging for food, but the each had cans of beer in their hands… Figure the odds. The folks working here didn’t do anything about asking them to leave, so I took matters into my own hands to get them to leave us alone. Maybe it’s because the folks working here didn’t speak English, but they didn’t even attempt to get the vagrants out of there.

Two years later and Carino’s has lost its luster. I woke up to find the Miami New Times ranked it as one of the best places in Miami to get a Café con Leche — and to their credit, for the entire week following that article, our ragtag band of hooligans was treated to coffee that was not plagued with the flavor of old, stale or burnt beans. What a treat, really!(We suspect they FINALLY washed the coffee machine. Which we also suspect is a once-a-month activity — actually, we HOPE for at least that much. We can not be sure). The real deal with Carino’s is that it’s convenient. It’s the closest place to our office to get a decently strong cafesito, so we go, like church, and worship at the altar of this mediocre cafesito window. Because like the various and often ever changing cast of beggars that constantly harass us at Carino’s, we are also addicted(but you know, not to heroine, just caffeine).

The only thing I come to this place for is the Cuban coffee and the empanadas from the little window. The place is a bit dirty inside. The pizza is not the best and over priced. Ladies at the window are always very nice and attentive. Lastly be careful with the local vagrants and nutjobs as this located right near Jackson Memorial Hospitals emergency room entrance.

Had to visit a friend in the hospital and was starving. Tried this place with no research. Food was great, had a stromboli and it was the best I ever had.

Awesome pizza. High end cheese, sause, amazing dough. The bread was perfectly crispy and it was one hell of a pie!

Okay, I’m gonna try this whole«honesty» thing: Yesterday, I felt like crapola. My allergies have gone haywire and I can barely breathe for this hacking cough. Regardless, I went to work. Why? Because I HAD to have the cuban toast and café con leche from Carino’s!!! OMG, the bestbestbest! I love it. So much so that I gave it up for Lent. So as of yesterday, my mouth was salivating for a cup — extra dark, extra sugar. I went yesterday morning and by the time I explained in my broken Spanish why they hadn’t seen me in a long time, 1 of the ladies interpreted that I had gone on a spiritual journey to Egypt! ROFL!(I’ve since added the words«iglesia» and«ayuno» to my vocab.) Anywhoo, back to their coffee. It’s just delicious — silky smooth, totally not bitter, a kick out of this world… *sigh* And the toast is so good — hot, buttery, crispy and filling. It’s a great start to the day and the coffee gives me the energy to make it through loooong days at work and still hang out at night. ;-) Ironically, I’ve never had the desire for Carino’s other food offerings. For no particular reason, I’ve no paid attention to anything else but their coffee and toast. I guess they get enough of my money on those, I don’t need to give them anymore. I have no complaints about the place — service is fast and friendly and although the interior isn’t much to look at, they are constantly cleaning up. I just can’t give a pizzeria 5 stars without having an opinion about the pizza. *shrugs*
