I was craving churros and a Google search revealed this place as being close to where the in-laws just settled down. Sister-in-law and I made our way to the small mall-like building in the downtown Coral Gable – which, if you haven’t been but spend some time in South FL, you should visit – and went up the escalators in the open-air structure, in search of the place. There was quite a line but as is expected of the beachy attitude in this region, as well as the laidback nature of the Latin community that clearly dominates the area, everyone was on island time and just having a good time socializing over their early-evening coffee. The one-man show was impressive though. Maybe even uncommon in this part of the country, he made an effort to greet and acknowledge everyone that approached his counter. Take note, businesses in danger of drowning and being forgotten. Acknowledge your customers, no matter how busy you are. When I noticed the guy’s friendliness, I immediately relaxed and subconsciously made the choice to wait for churros for a longer-than-would-normally-be-acceptable-to-me amount of time. I like being greeted(okay, call me selfish, egotistical, Narcissistic, whatever you like). Okay, on to the good stuff. You can choose from various fillings, such as vanila, chocolate, dulce de leche(I think), and maybe another flavo or two. Anyway, I noticed that they had different varieties to give different folks their different strokes. I got my filled with chocolate and then observed him drop my column of dough in huge vat of oil. When he gave it to me! I couldn’t even for SIL’s churro to arrive, I sunk my teeth into the amazing crusty and chunky exterior, which yielded a successful churro experience. I will be back. You should get a demitasse cup of cortadito with a churro on the side. Then my review will scroll across your mind and you will have been thankful.
