Not wanting to date myself, I actually played basketball in Converse High tops, when they were used for what they were actually designed. This of course was way before the shoe revolution we now live in — a true testament of the staying power of the brand and their marketing genius, these shoes are still around just as they were originally designed, albeit not used for the same purpose. I wouldn’t dare play basketball nowadays with these shoes but boy! they are comfy as all hell, easy to wear with just about anything and match any outfit, even the more formal ones. That was for the brand — and that’s why the review begins with 5 stars. Now for the store, the«back of the house» is fine, the shoes are clearly displayed and easy to find… however, if don’t find what you are looking for the helpful staff will gladly help you out. Checkout, however, is a whole different story, these 2 girls will barely pay attention to you while they text, talk on their cell phones or among themselves, automatically, they will take your money, interact with you as little as possible and finally hand you a receipt and your purchase without ever engaging, acknowledging or making eye contact. Mind you, the above observation is made based on 3 different visits and purchases at this store in the past 4 weeks… so it is clearly the norm– Hello Management — pay attention — checkout service SUCKS !!! Why ruin an otherwise good experience because of your lack of attention to detail ? Shoppers, beware … you will walk out with an excellent pair of shoes and the service in the back will be good, but checking out and partying with your money, will ruin your experience.

This is the actual conversation and interaction: Me: «OoooooOOOO CONVERSE! I have wanted those for a long time! The weather is getting cooler, lets go in» Teenage daughter«Really?» //rolls eyes and drops shoulders as she follows me in store// Me: «I wonder if the have the AC/DC ones! I would be sooo happy!» Teen //shoulders drop even more as she looks around hoping no one heard her mother just say that//«Can i sit here and listen to my iPod?» Me: «Sure, but what do you think of these PURPLE ones?» Teen //rolling eyes and trying to melt into the seat// Me: «OMGSEQUINSONCONVERSE! SOSHINY! Don’t you just want these for school?» Teen //trying to pretend she didn’t hear me as she starts putting the volume up as she listens to Cocteau Twins// I choose basic black, purchase for a great price — the service is stellar by the way. They also have great colors and patterns and have quite a few on super sale all the time! I happily take my new Converse and leave the store and feel a small hug… «Mom, I love you… I like the black ones, they are cool.»
