Dave & Mary Alper Jewish Community Center

This review is for the Miami Children’s Theater (MCT) which performs their productions at the Robert Russell Theater on the campus of the Alper JCC. I’ve gone to many performances there over the last 5 years and have yet to be disappointed. The kids (actually you can call them young adults) always give it their all and act their hearts out! Yes, sometimes they open late and the audio system can be balky, but for the price charged, they provide a great entertainment value. The entire staff of acting directors, choreographers, music directors et al, all do a great job with the kids. Also, if you feel your child has potential thespian talent, they offer an excellent summer camp program. I enrolled my daughter and they helped nurture and develop her talent to the point that she was named a national finalist in theater by the National YoungArts Foundation, and now she is performing in London on the stage of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
I would heartily recommend MCT either to see their productions, or as an excellent artistic educational program for young people.

Visited the Miami Children’s Theater to see the «Little Shop of Horror»
The show was supposed to begin at 8pm and they actually opened doors around 8:20pm.
All the families, and children were in the theater were standing, waiting impatiently for the doors to open.
However, the show was great.

Their early education child center is amazing, my son is blossoming in their program. The child to staff ratio is great, my son’s class has 3 teachers and about 16 kids.
Their gym is amazing to work out in, I just need to get back into it. They have wonderful personal trainers that you can arrange to work with or you can do your own thing between cardio machines, free weights, and weight lifting machines.
My children started in their summer camp last summer and I am so happy that I put them there because the program is outstanding for all ages. Kids have so much to do that they come home exhausted and they have swimming lessons everyday in and amongst all of their other activities and field trips.

when you live in miami, you tend to frequent many different gyms, and over the years I’ve belong to maybe 5 or 6, being that the JCC was my last. Yes the JCC is very clean, fully due to the fact that their cleaning staff cares about the grounds, there are also a lot of free classes that are very enjoyable but in my opinion the gym staff is unfriendly at best.
When I filled out my application for the gym membership, I was told that it was a one year contract. I recently moved away from the area, and I called to ask when my gym membership ended and they would tell me at so so date. So I put it at the back of my mind and forgot about it. Luckly today I was checking my credit card statements and I found that the JCC charged me for the month of July, when I was informed that my gym membership ended in June. I called the gym right up and they tell me that yes my contract ended in June but if you do not call to cancel then they will continue to charge me the gym fee.
Gee thanks… would’ve nice to know when I called last month.
Would I ever frequent this gym again… no not really. I didnt enjoy the tone of the membership employee who cancelled my expired gym contract, she made it seem as though it is my fault for not being wiser to the fact that I had to call in, she also didn’t really apologize or invite me back to the gym in the later the future.

I go here because my church, All Souls rents a place at the JCC. The place looks awesome and extremely clean. I actually plan on going to class there at some point when I have time because I have seen some of the staff and they are very nice and helpful.

Shhhh. Don’t tell anyone but this is the best gym ever. I don’t want anyone to find out because at the moment it isn’t too crowded here so I can have access to all the awesome equipment with my own personal TV’s at each cardio machine without having to wait. I can enjoy the classes since they’re a reasonable size, especially my favorite class, Cardio Kickboxing with Santi.
The JCC is so much more than the gym, and since I mainly only use the gym you don’t have to keep the rest a secret. There’s after school programs for kids, preschool, summer camps and activities like sports, music, and dance. There’s the Nosh bar for a tasty snack and a huge campus to explore. There’s a pool, tennis courts, basketball courts, racquetball and batting cages. There is also spinning and reformer pilates for additional charges. And free child care while you work out.
It’s pretty much the bomb. But don’t tell anyone.

The Alper JCC is warm and welcoming, and is a community place for all people, regardless of religion.
The museum always has an interesting exhibit (right now it’s about Board Games and is geared for children age 3 – 10) and the shows in the theater are top-​notch.
JCC summer camp is a great time for all kids, offering swim lessons 5 days a week and lots of other fun sports and activities as well.
And don’t forget the gym! The classes are great; try Zach’s Pilates/​Sculpt or Spinning classes and the gym and the machines are always clean, well-​maintained and nice to use to work out.
Stop at Moshe’s Nosh Bar after your workout for a smoothie or a light lunch. You won’t be disappointed and if you’re friendly, you’ll almost always make a new friend while eating!
