I live near Gables but this evening I had the time to stop by Dr. Pizza. What a pleasant dining surprise! The medium stuffed pie is enough for four meals. Side of jardinière notched it up a kick too. This place should open a location in one of the busier districts: CocoGrove, Brickell, Lincoln, Alton, etc. The only place in the 305 that I have enjoyed an authentic deep dish taste. Awesomesauce too…

I’ve never been to Chicago so I don’t know what authentic tastes like. BUT I do know great pizza when I taste it! Fiancé ordered a medium, it was just the two of us. We now have enough pizza left over for two more nights worth of dinner… Score! The crust was amazing! So buttery and thick and crispy around the edges… mmm! We ordered a cheese deep dish with peppers and onions. It was great! Definitely would order again! PLUS the pizza came with a cute metal serving spatula!

Our review in one sentence: Do not miss out on one of the best hole-in-the-wall pizza places in all of Miami! When Dr. Pizza first opened, it quickly became one of our – my boyfriend and myself – favorite pizza places in all of Miami. Finally, Chicago style pizza right here in Miami! The pizza was delicious, offered at an extraordinarily fair price, and filling beyond belief. Beyond that, the owner and staff were very friendly, and happy to have anyone come in and try their pizza. The owner was exceptionally passionate about the craft. Then, one day, it all came crashing down. Dr. Pizza’s phone number was disconnected, and it seemed to be gone for good. With its departure, the Miami pizza scene lost a true star. Think of our surprise, then, when one day, we emptily Unilocaled Dr. Pizza for old time’s sake to see that the owner was BACK in BUSINESS! The location has changed, and you can only have your pizza by carry out or delivery, but the great Dr. Pizza taste is just like we remembered it. Thick, deep, delicious Chicago style pizza, capable of feeding an army! Miami Unilocalers, do not pass up Dr. Pizza. It is a gem! It’s places like this – along with The Big Tomato, the Big Cheese, and Steve’s Pizza – that really make getting pizza in Miami special. Dr. Pizza truly offers us something unique. The pizza is out-of-this world, the quantity is astronomical, and the variety of toppings only adds to it all. Beyond all of the great things to say about Dr. Pizza’s menu, I want to add another thing about the owner of Dr. Pizza itself. This man lives and breathes pizza. It’s a rarity to have someone like this here in Miami. Believe me, after talking briefly to this man, it becomes clear that he’s not doing any of this for the money(though, I bet he’d think it’d be nice to have more of that, to be sure). He does it all for the pizza. Every pie he makes is an opportunity to make the best pie he’s ever made. I believe that his attitude when he’s cooking. Here’s some evidence: Earlier on tonight, when we went to pick up the pizza we ordered, it started to rain heavily. His biggest worry was that our pizza would be ruined, and in order to save his masterwork, he went beyond simply leaving it in a box, he bagged it all up for us too. When we got home, our pizza was hot, fresh, and not a rain drop could be found on it – or even the box! But don’t take this anecdote for it, when you pick up your pizza, stay and talk to him a bit; I guarantee he passion for making pizza will rub off on you. We cannot recommend this place enough, Unilocalers of Miami. Check it out!

I enjoyed the Dr. Meats deep dish pizza we had last night. Can’t wait to try other things on the menu. Thanks to whomever was in my neighborhood and put the flyer on our front door.
