El Mencey is everything a 5-star worthy restaurant should be. The seamless marriage of mouthwateringly good food with above-average service at El Mencey sets the bar dangerously high for competing establishments in the area. To start with, the place itself is small and cozy with quality visual appeal. They have an extensive wine list and a Spanish menu with enough temptations to make even the pickiest eater drool with anticipation. The highly attentive server asked us our preferences and made several suggestions that she thought we might enjoy. We started with a small sampling of cheese and meats, all of which were delicious. Then, upon our server’s suggestion, we tried another appetizer that I can’t recall the name of but was fried cheese topped with some kind of sweet jelly. It was absolutely heavenly. Even my friend who does not like cheese was thoroughly impressed with this dish. Afterwards we both shared a paella but since neither of us likes seafood, it was prepared specially for us with only chicken and chorizo and was just as delectable as everything else we had. We washed down our dinner with a couple glasses of the tasty house merlot and finished up our dining experience with some espresso. We left with happiness lingering on our tastebuds and in our bellies thanks to a truly remarkable dining experience at El Mencey. I saw that they have live music on the weekends so I’m sure we will be back for that and then some.

About as Spanish as a restaurant can get, El Mencey is awesome. It’s a very small restaurant that only gets busy when there is Live Music, and that’s kinda sad, because this place should get more praise than it receives. The Menu is in all-spanish, with a horribly compressed font that makes it a little difficult to read in the dimly lit atmosphere. That’s the only flaw about this restaurant. You can order anything off the menu and it’s delicious. I had a Pargo Fish with uniquely made French Fries and Fried Plantains. It was served on a wooden table instead of a plate, which is awesome. It was very exquisite. With plenty of room left over for dessert(even with all the bread I ate beforehand), I had a Mango Sorbet. Apart from a minor Brain Freeze, all was well. The Head Chef is very generous to all that visit El Mencey and I recommend everyone to give thanks to his meals. Overall, this food makes me feel like i’m actually in Spain.
