A lot of the equipment needs updating. Dirty, sweaty mats. They offer towels, which have been used several times, and a spray bottle to wipe down equipment. The gym definitely needs to be expanded and upgraded.

After a four year break from taking academic courses after graduation, I decided to enroll back in school to further my education and pursue other opportunities. Unfortunately, all four year universities try to squeeze every penny out of you and force you to pay for any miscellaneous fee possible. Student activity fee, student health fee, gym fee– you name it, you will probably have to pay for it as part of your tuition bill. Luckily, paying for the gym fee at FIU isn’t that bad because it’s priced competitively to all other gyms in the Miami-Dade area, costing you around $ 30 monthly if my memory serves me right. At the FIU gym, there is two floors, so there is ample space for working out. The first floor is the weight’s section where you can watch all of the collegiate athletes pump iron, but there will definitely be space for you to lift a weight or two. The second floor are the cardio machines which always have an empty machine waiting to be used. If you are looking to take a gym course, there are amazing courses offered throughout the day. I recommend taking Danny’s ultimate abs course. I took it yesterday, and that class just makes you feel like jelly the next day. There are also other courses like Sentao(a.k.a. chair exercises) and Budokon Yoga for those who are willing to try something new. The only things I can find to complain about the FIU gym are the parking situation and the lack of 3G network access. The parking lot for students is in the garage or at the lot in front of the gym which is behind the lake. It’s a bit of a walk. Faculty members have it much better because they can park behind the gym where there is a lot of space. If you want to listen to Pandora, it might be difficult because the 3G network is choppy, and it can ruin your workout. I personally like to listen to music when I am doing my cardio, and sometimes I cannot do this because it doesn’t work. Pros: the price, lots of space Cons: the parking situation, 3G network is choppy Overall: 4 stars

They offer a lot of different classes at really convenient hours. Also, there are trainers who walk around to ensure you are using the equipment properly or to assist you. I love coming here early in the morning, like around 8am, because most machines are empty. I hate having to wait around for someone to get off a machine I want!

Being the gym junkie that I am and having been a member of LA Fitness and Bally’s, I can say with all assurance this has been the best gym. Yeah it has its faults such as while you’re sweating balls the person on the treadmill next to you might be a highschool friend of yours whom you no longer associate with or you have that person who is in your class but you don’t quite know their name so the enivornment is that awkward situations could occur. They have Spinning, Yoga, SoBe Buns, Kick and Sculpt, Bellydancing– well so many I can’t recall. It’s a great way for busy students to get their daily workout in not only because they provide so many fitness classes but also because they have an awesome gym environment. They even have an area where the music is thumping loud and another quiet area if you want to stretch and relax at ease without blaring music. It’s an awesome gym and totally recommend anyone to try it out!
