So, I found J&J on and they have great reviews there so I called them. I was looking for someone to install wood like porcelain planks for my bf. I spoke with one of the owners on the phone who gave me a price, we agreed on a negotiated price per sq ft which was later confirmed, agreed, and signed in a contract after he went to see the home and survey the needed work. During our initial conversation he gave me this whole spiel about being firm on the price from the beginning because he does not do the back and forth later and raise the price on his customers. Well, within a couple days into the job he said it was more work than he had anticipated and had to raise the price by $ 500 despite the signed agreement because«he didn’t want to rush through the job and for it not to come out the way it should because they are trying to hurry up and finish» as not to loose money. That put us in a tough spot as the job had already been started so it would be difficult to find someone to pick up where they would have left off creating a further delay and we couldn’t refuse to pay and have them do sloppy work trying to finish quickly. He then took three weeks to complete 550 sq ft! Within those three weeks the workers only worked 11 days, showing up every day at 10:30 — 11:00am. One day the workers didn’t show at all, the owner thought they were already at the house working but they were nowhere to be found. Mind you, my bf worked from home on the days they were coming in so when they wouldn’t show up and he’s been sitting around waiting for them all morning it is quite the inconvenience. They left the front of the house a mess with dried up grout and cement all over the grass and a bucket full to the rim of dry cement. As they days went by they got restless and desperate to just finish and started to finding excuses not to tile certain areas and not checking that it was level. He said they would sand down the bottom of the doors so they would fit right before reinstalling them and he didn’t sand them nor install them again, they didn’t put the appliances back in place either. At the end of the day the floors do look great and they did a good job but I wish it had been a better experience.
