Food here is very mediocre. Just not very tasty at all. It’s just meh. The problem is insufficient seasoning and the food hasn’t been cooked«down» enough(soul food aficionados will feel me). Not sure exactly why all the 5-star ratings… maybe due to it being an area institution, or because it’s open 24 hours I guess. I’ll rate 3 stars though, because the prices are very reasonable.

Best fried chicken. Best fried shrimp. Best owner(who will come talk to you and tell you the history of the place). And a civil rights landmark to boot. This is the place you need to see if you want to see the real Miami. Love it!

I don’t know how Jumbo’s received so many 4⁄5 star reviews. Unilocal let me down also; this place was dirty and the food was school cafeteria grade. How the health department has not shut this place down is beyond me; Chef Ramsey or the Bar Rescue guy would kick out the very few patrons I saw and lock the doors.

Local treasure with deep roots. Fried food fanatics flock here for the seafood and chicken.

I have heard of this place for so many yrs but every time I went by it I was in a hurry I finally stopped on last month, and ordered shrimp and fish dinner with greens and something else I can’t remember but it was great and for the price it was really great it’s not in a great neighbor hood so I was a little jittery. But once inside I felt at home, the owner and his friend came over and sat with me and we talked about horses and seafood for an hr or more. Ill be back soon I had a good time and a great meal

Honestly i have had fried chicken in michelin starred restaurants on the Top 10 Fried Chicken lists in the country and there is absolutely nothing as good as JUMBO’S! If you are looking for real fried chicken to feed your soul this is the only place to go.

I was NOT impressed! Unilocal you let me down. I ordered fish and shrimp. The breading was soggy and falling off, the taste was less than ughhhhh and the mac and cheese was horrible!!! My first bite I thought i was trippin my second bite I spit out. There was a number of ppl here eating so something must be appetizing to them. To me, not so much. I will not return.

This place is a time warp. You should go once for the historic Miami experience and friendly service. The fried chicken is famous and the prices are low for the platters. I went once for breakfast and it was nothing special and wasn’t as inexpensive as the vibe would suggest. The neighborhood is still a bit rough and the décor hasn’t been updated in what looks like decades. The diverse clientele make for an interesting experience. Cash only. There is a sign that says cash or debit — the debit being an ATM that charges 2 dollars. That might have cost them the 3rd star.

Best fried chicken in town hands down! we are fans of Publix fried chicken from forever but came to know this place and we are number 1 fans now! As fresh as you can get it! Amazing people working here as well, I love to wait for my order when I do take out while drinking a great glass of fresh squeezed lemonade! Great old school place, really clean and lots of items in the menu! Also love the fried shrimp!

I could not believe the sheer amount of food we got for the price! I got fried catfish with Mac & Cheese and green beans. The beans were nicely seasoned and I really liked the breading on the fried catfish. The mac and cheese was good, but not the style that I prefer so i was a bit biased against it. I walked away stuffed to the gills though and very satisfied. :)

I came here on a recommendation from a local. It was about a 10 – 15 minute drive to area of Liberty City from where I was staying in North Miami(I was by myself and had all day and it was only 9AM, so I didn’t mind). It was mostly empty at this time on a Monday, so I was immediately greeted and told to sit anywhere I’d like. As much as I wanted to try their shrimp and conch, I was in need for some breakfast foods, so I ordered the three buttermilk pancakes, four sausage links, and coffee(only $ 6) — and the pancakes were phenomenal. Fluffy, buttery, and delicious. The service was the friendliest that I had during my entire stay and since it wasn’t busy, he kept me company and we had a good chat about the area, what I was up to for the day and where else I should check out. I will be back next time I am in Miami to try to shrimp and conch, as he said it was their specialty.

Okay I been a few more times since my last review, and I must say I have been pleasantly surprised. It must have been a bad day the last time I went because every time after the food has been awesome. My waitress was always nice and I would now recommend anyone eat here now.

My breakfast companion and I came here for cat fish and grits and pancakes and eggs. Let’s face it, the food is not spectacular. However, you will be treated like family, and you will be guaranteed warm and friendly service, just like we had with Ms. K. She was sweet, sincere, and a bundle of energy! And yes it’s true, there is a great deal of history in this little place. Additionally, you can sing karaōke 24 hours a day here. This is truly a very special restaurant.

This restaurant was my answer to everything… a step back in time in Miami when service was the most important name of the game!!! Waitress was sweet and kept patting me on the back… encouraging me to try the«flop» so I succumbed. Had salmon patties which were delish with passable cole slaw… hated the collard greens… no flavor. But the atmosphere made up for it. I would like to try this again at nightime maybe after wynwood art walk… whoo! Whoo!

Last week a couple of friends and I were driving around Little Haiti when we stumbled by chance upon this scrappy looking eatery. We wanted to find a hole in the wall for some really great food, and boy did we hit the mother-freaking jackpot. I have not experienced southern hospitality like this since I’ve been in Miami. Upon our arrival, we were greeted like age old friends, and the service throughout the meal did not let up either. Everyone who works there has been there for nearly forty years, and they know how to make their guests feel right at home. We asked for a recommendation from our waiter, and without missing a beat he suggested the fried conch. We ordered that along with southern style macaroni and cheese, fries, and green beans. We ordered the«half servings,» and were still stunned by the copious meals we were presented with for prices that were beyond reasonable. It turns out that this over fifty-year-old Miami landmark is as rich in history as it is in taste. Go here if you’re looking for delicious, authentic soul food. For foodies especially, this place is a diamond in the rough. You’ll leave satisfied by both the food and the service. And you might even get a little history lesson.

Damn their fried conch. I’m actually thinking about it right now as I type away. Anddd now I’m drooling on my keyboard. Damn good food and damn good service, that’s how Jumbo rolls! I was raised about 2 minutes from there. I went to school down the street, Little River Elementary School. I always feel right at home whenever I go to Jumbos. I hope they continue to stick around for a very long time. PS: Still not such a great area. I mean it was the jungle back in the early 90’s. But it’s much more safe today than it used to be.

The first time dining at a classic like Jumbos is always an adventure. You know the history and the importance it holds in local history(first restaurant to be integrated in Miami) but will it live up to the heavy expectations? Jumbos most certainly did. Let’s start with the basics. This place is open 24⁄7. The vibe is homey and might come off kitschy but it’s actually old Miami memorabilia. The menu is huge and most of it down home comfort food. I went with the Chicken Philly. It arrived and I was taken aback by the size, it’s huge and messy and amazing. The accompanying fries reminded me of big bags of frozen fries. I was disappointed especially, because I had some high expectations for some quality, crispy, salty, homemade fries. I’d had some of their fried chicken strips and fried shrimp earlier that week and I can tell you there are plenty of good, comforting, not doctor approved eats at Jumbo’s. Plus the service will leave a smile on your face. Overall, Jumbo’s didn’t disappoint. Every«foodie» or just plain old food lover should put this place on their culinary road map of MIami, stop in and have a meal and a conversation with the charming owner.

Hidden out in the open of a neighborhood you wouldn’t regularly find yourself in is Jumbo’s! Sure the paint is lead based and they don’t take plastic but they do have some of the best fried conch I’ve ever tasted! The menu is HUGE, I must have read over it twelve times before decided what to order… all I really wanted to do was order more conch, yes it’s that good! When I finally decided I got the fried shrimp, did I mention 80% of the menu is fried? The shrimp came with a side of mac n cheese and potato salad. Everything was delicious and the fish tasted super fresh. Bring a crowd, this place is quite large and open 24hrs, share a part of Miami history and a Flop that’ll be sure to get your blood sugar nice and high!

I think they call this place Jumbo’s for a reason. Everything in here is huge. The space is pretty big, its atmosphere a cross between your favorite diner and the mess hall at the sleep away summer camp my mom never let me go to. The menu is extensive, so the folks at Jumbo’s have done the brilliant thing of plastering their most popular specials all over their walls and windows– so you have an idea of what you’re probably going to want before you even open the menu(though there are a few pleasant surprises on there like their pigeon peas and rice, and sweet plantains– when they’re in stock). The portion sizes are enormous. My delicious grilled chicken sandwich was enough to feed a family of 5. The bread they make it on is the softest, most delicious bread ever. I’ve tried to recreate similar bread at home to no avail. They also make a mean potato salad. Service was impeccable… Geraldina(our waitress, i believe that was her name) was so attentive and on top of her game… I love when that happens! And to top it off, Bobby(the owner) came to the table to make sure everything was ok. We congraluted him on the fried conch, as it is perhaps the best thing on the menu. Ahh… Dive dining at its finest.
