Kitty Kat Pole Dancing

I purchased a groupon for one month of unlimited classes back in May. Prior to my first visit, I called the studio and spoke to the owner. She provided me with all the specific info needed before my first class. Before kitty Kat, I’ve never attended a pole dancing class. After my one month groupon expired, I decided to purchase a one year membership-​I was hooked! It’s not only a great workout but also fun.
I find comfort that it’s women only, the curtains remain closed during classes and everyone makes you feel comfortable. The instructors are all amazing dancers… I’ve never seen rhythm like that before! Sometimes you WILL have to share a pole-​big deal. Based on a couple students feedback, the owner added additional classes to the schedule which several of us were thrilled about!!!
Yes, you will be asked if you want to purchase shoes, grip, knee pads etc… but if you don’t want to buy them and would rather do a google search for them, then go for it. The women at kitty Kat are running a business and of course they want you to purchase their products. This is no different than any other gym/​studio out there.
If you’re looking for a chill place to learn technique and build your core, then check this place out. Im glad I stumbled across the groupon and later joined!

I’m so glad that I found this Unilocal page for them! I purchased a Living Social for 5 classes a few years ago.
That was the WORST dance or fitness experience EVER!!! I didn’t even use all five. I used like 3 or 4 because it was such a disappointment.
Cynthia, the owner, was always trying to sell crap that I didn’t need. I agree with Jesse W. She is pushy and rude. She didn’t care if you were actually learning anything.
One day, I went to a beginner POLE DANCING CLASS and never even TOUCHED a pole!!! We stretched for most of the class and did some stupid chair stuff.
I’m sure she’s a great dancer herself and maybe in a one on one situation, it would be better, but I really doubt it. Also, her prices are outrageous. There is a pole dancing studio next to the hair salon I go to and near my job. When I walk past there, it seems so fun and there’s good music playing. I’m also pretty sure they’re cheaper too. Point is: there are probably better pole dancing studios out there so don’t waste your money here!!!

I don’t even want to give this place 1 star. The owner is cold, rude, and gave me a shoddy impression of both herself, and the studio from the start. I purchased a month unlimited package through Groupon and was looking very forward to learning a sexy, challenging new form of exercise that I was very committed to taking on. The studio is itty bitty and there are only 6 poles total. You spend the majority of the 1 hour class doing stretches and not learning pole work. I understand that stretching is imperative, however 20 minutes of actual learning of the pole routine is hardly learning. Furthermore, you will find yourself whacking
your neighbor’s legs with your own repeatedly with every swing around the pole, and that’s if you actually get a pole to yourself. Most of the time you will have to take turns with another person, which surely does not benefit anyone’s learning experience in the least. Cynthia also likes to move very quickly through everything, and blankly stared at all the girls in my class like idiots because we were not picking up the moves as quickly as she seemed to think we all should. I’m sorry that none of us have prior dance or stripping backgrounds to get the moves down immediately!
Additionally Cynthia rapes her customers on price of everything. I immediately felt like she was pushing me into purchasing her items for sale, which included very cheaply made booty shorts and knee pads for $ 35 a pop, as well as grip lotion for $ 17!!! By the way, you can find all of these same items online for a fraction of her asking price. Her return policy is non-​existent and she does not tell you this upfront either. She told me that I would not find the knee pads anywhere else. I’m an idiot for buying them too quickly, but felt I needed them as I was planning to attend class many times and did not want to wreak total havoc on my knees.
One more thing to sadly note, I was only able to attend a couple classes into my month long package, when I received horrible news about a family member, I had to fly home, out of state, and would not be able to return for a few weeks due to family emergency. I politely asked Cynthia if she would be willing to allow me to use the remainder of my $ 80 package upon my return, and due to the circumstances, as well as the fact that I would assume she would want to hold on to absolutely every potential customer she had as she is a very small business and just relocated to a new location, that she would be willing to work with me in some way. However, she swiftly responded with a cold no.
This place and Cynthia appear to be very shady indeed. I have now lost out on my hard earned money, and have an even more horrible experience to report as a result. BUYERS BEWARE!!! HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED!!!

I purchased and used about 15 classes here and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again should I find myself back in Miami. I have tried other pole dance studios and like this one the best so far. For one, it’s down to earth and honest. You won’t be coddled or treated like a fairy princess or left alone to hurt yourself. The instruction from Cynthia may be a little brusque and to the point, but as long as you get over your ego and are actually there to learn something and get a wicked upper body workout, you’ll appreciate it. Yes, sometimes you have to share a pole, especially during a promotion, but you will get plenty of time to try the tricks and spins and there is open pole practice on the schedule if you feel you need more. Classes start with warm up stretches and cool downs, and there is all kinds of optional supplies and advice to help with the initial potential beginner oops and bruises (inevitable with pole class, no matter where you go, don’t kid yourself. At least someone’s looking out and letting you know.) The regular attendees of classes are friendly and supportive to anyone who shows up and tries. It doesn’t have that cliquish feel that some other places do. Pole instruction classes with Cynthia will definitely help you get your technique while choreographed classes with Yazzy are challenging and fun and compliment the basics. I got a text message before my first class as I signed up online with specific directions which made it easy to find as google/​apple maps will for some weird reason just take you to the Midtown Target. I appreciated this as it made going for the first time a lot easier. I wanted to throw my 2 cents in as a reviewer because I was initially off put by some of the negative feedback about this place, but I was temporarily living close by and decided to give it a shot anyway. I’m glad I did. This was the first place I successfully started doing decent spins and things I thought maybe I just wasn’t cut out to do but in order to do that someone had to tell me what I was doing wrong so I could fix it. Plus with that style of teaching you know the compliments are genuine and can feel good about yourself for clearing another hurdle. Yay! And just as an extra bonus, adding this in to my regular workouts really helped tone my arms. Score.

I was recently in Miami for a bachelorette party and 12 of us took a pole dancing class here. It was an absolute blast! It is a little bit off the beaten track but so worthwhile to go. We were given great directions so it wasn’t hard to find. The class was easy to follow, the music was great and our instructor was so encouraging and made everyone so comfortable. She also served us champagne and spent a lot of time with us laughing and showing us the moves. It was one of the highlights of our weekend in Miami and I highly recommend it! Also — great workout without realizing you are working out!

We booked a party for 6 for one of my friend’s bachelorette. When we arrived, our instructor was warming up. She made us feel right at home. We got right down to it. The class was really fun and a really great workout. She ran through different parts of the choreography and had us all put it all together little by little. Obviously none of us looked as good as her. About halfwya through, she suggested shots. They were pretty cheap and we got a round of shots for the group. She took pictures. And then we pressed on with our routine.
One of my friends who had been to other pole dancing classes said this one was more choreography than other classes where you learn tricks. For my fitness level and (lack of) upper body strength, it was perfect. Just enough to break a sweat and not enough to break something. At the end of the hour, she took a couple more photos and had us try to do a pose up on a large hoop hanging from the ceiling.
The only reason I knocked one star is because there were 6 of us and 6 poles. So for a large part of the class, one of us was sitting out so the instructor could demonstrate the tricks. I can’t imagine doing this with 8 or 9 people. She was creative about it, though, and after we got a little practice, she sat back and watched while all 6 of us took to the pole. Still, it feels a little gypped.
As far as the comments here about her being rude and whatnot, I didn’t get that vibe. She gets down to business, like a personal trainer would. She wasn’t being overly critical or anything. Overall, it was a great time. And a good workout. I had some serious soreness the next day in arm muscles I didn’t even know I had.

Long overdue to review. I went to this place in 2011 with Evelyn D. and Yamara T. I pretty much concur with everything they mentioned — customer service along with everything else was horrible.
I’m very understanding when it comes to schedule mix-​ups and/​or adapting to whatever situation arises so perhaps if Cynthia would’ve treated my friends and I with kindness and some respect, we wouldn’t have to give her 1 star.
There’s not much else to say but that I’m glad I got my money back from Groupon.

Well… I hardly ever review anything, anywhere… However it took me a loooooooong time to get all my guts together to try this. I finally did and I have to say the experience was highly rewarding. I felt sexy, empowered, stronger after my class. I did have to build up the courage to go inside, but once I did they made me feel at ease and comfortable. Needless to say… I will be going back for more!

The owner of this studio is so rude… no people skills. no cutomer service skills. Im surprised she has any customers… or a business for that matter. Bought a SEt of 5 classes with Living Social. Didnt have time to use them, so they expired. Based on the policy I am able to use $ 29 (the amt that i paid) towards classes at the studio. I called the studio and after explaining my situation I was told that i had to purchase a package of $ 200 or more in order to redeem my $ 29. She continued to scold me for not using my voucher before it expired… I was in shock that she spoke to me in that way and that they could require anyone to do that! Thats pretty much trying to keep my $ 29. My intentions were to sample the classes and decide if i wanted to go further. Why would i purchase a package of classes for more than $ 200? Maybe if they were nicer on the phone i would consider it though…
Why cant i just spend my $ 29 on a single class? They sell single classes. They were rude on the phone and actually hung up on me when i commented on their policy and how unfair it was. I would never step 1 foot into that studio. Waiting on Living social to help me figure out how to get my money back.
Bad choice for anyone!!!

I went to Kitty Kat Pole Fitness for the first time yesterday & I had an amazing time. I took Level 1 & 2 class with Mindy as my instructor. She was very friendly & made the moves easy to follow. I am really excited to attend the rest of my classes. I recommend this place to anyone who would like to get fit while doing something fun, or to learn some sexy moves for your significant other ;)

Groupon: I also purchased 5 for 29 for myself and one for a friend. When Cynthia scanned our Groupons for the first time, it made all of our other coupons go away. It said both Groupons were fully redeemed. I discovered this when I tried to sign up for my second class. I contacted Groupon because I couldn’t get the barcode to show up on my phone or on paper, I assumed it was some sort of glitch. A day later, I got a voicemail from Cynthia sounding very annoyed about the «misconfusion». I called back and she assured me that they had the Groupons recorded at the studio and that I had 4 classes left. However, when I went back last week, she kept asking me for the barcode, which I explained to her I no longer had. While I was trying to solve the issue, she just kept staring at me with the most puzzled face. She finally said, «I think I remember you guys, you were the ones that came in late.» — We actually came in early. But I just said, Yes, that was us. After a conversation that went no where, I ended up paying 20 dollars that will not be refunded to me, even though I already bought a Groupon. — I didn’t end up going back to redeem the rest of them.
Now about the Class:
The work out is great. I left sore both times I went, and I had a good time overall. But Cynthia is not the best teacher. When I walked into the class, she and two other girls were talking about a couple of women who had previously been to the class and could only do the easiest step. — That’s not a fun thing to be talking about in front of people that you don’t know. So now I just think these girls are going to be judging me the whole time… Good thing I don’t care.
She decided to challenge us with a tricky move, but what was really challenging was trying to follow her instruction. «So, you kick your right leg higher than your left, then you go around like this, then you do this, and you end like this. Okay? Now you try.» I’m surprised I didn’t break my neck, or witness someone else breaking their neck. There weren’t any explicit steps, and she didn’t even try to explain the technique of it. I do ballet, I need to know specific positions!
She then taught us a little routine. She did the whole thing once then had us do it on our own. I guess she actually expected everyone to remember the whole thing because after a few seconds, she stopped the music and singled someone out for «messing up the routine». — We were literally rolling around on the floor at that point, there’s not a whole lot of choreography to mess up. Was it necessary to stop the class and embarrass someone like that? I think not.
It’s a good time, but there’s a reason everyone keeps mentioning the management.

Pole dancing is my new favorite workout class, so I was really excited to check out this studio while I visit Miami. I have taken pole in other places in Miami so I do have something to compare to.
The studio is a bit hidden, so leave yourself some time to find it and find parking the first time you go. It is located behind the building where the «The Cheese Course» is in the Midtown shopping center. The inside is small but nicely clad with fun burlesque décor.
We began with warm-​ups and then the instructor showed us the choreography that she went through from start to finish instead of breaking down piece by piece as we learned it together. I can see why the reviews have commented the way they have because Cynthia is… well let’s just say a bit rough around the edges. Her intentions may be good, but some of the things she says come off a little blunt and rude. I found that she went through everything very quickly and does not give good explanation. Instead of giving everyone time to try the spins and going around one by one to give correction, she will just call you out in front of everyone. I found it to be a little discomforting and made me feel pressured to do everything just the way she wants it or I would get called out.
It’s strange because pole is about letting women have fun and feel sexy while being themselves. The lack of detailed instruction and the pressure really took the fun out of it for me. I understand she wants to show you the right way, but let’s face it– most women are coming in to have fun and feel sexy and not learn how to be strippers. I think the class overall was ok and I do believe Cynthia has good intentions, but I think that you may need to get used to her teaching style and there is a good chance it won’t be for you.

I live in NY and was planning a bachelorette party for my best friend in Miami. I wanted something risqué and bacherlorette-​y, but nothing too cliché or cheesy like strippers. I didn’t want to deal with cabs or anyone driving, so I thought it would be better to just have our own party and stick to 1 location. I devoted basically a week to investigating what my options were in Miami, and was horrified with how limited and expensive my options were, until I found Kitty Kat.
I spoke to Cynthia and was thrilled to hear that she could bring the pole to us and install it in any space big or small. I had planned for us to get nice and tipsy before the pole dancing began, so I had her come at 11pm so that we could dance from 11:30 — 1:30am.
I have to say it was amazing how Cynthia managed to transform the cluttered place into a huge dance studio. We hid the bride to be as she was installing the pole and when she walked out of the room she was welcomed to Cynthia on the pole and fun dance music. We ended up being about 18 girls and it was a complete blast. She was only supposed to be there for 2 hours but she ended up staying about 3 – 4 hours and let us have free reign with the pole.
I really couldn’t have planned a more perfect night. No one at the party really knew each other but by the end of the night we were all cheering each other on. My friend was completely blown away by everything and had a complete blast. I strongly recommend Kitty Kat for a bachelorette or even just a fun night in with your friends.

Just like many others I started taking classes here after finding a groupon deal. I loved it so much I signed up for a 1 year membership before my 5 classes were over.
Kitty Kat offers a variety of beginners classes and instructors which is great to always learn new movements around the tricks you will learn. You can choose a instructor that fits your learning style or schedule.
Normally, the one hour class starts with stretching, abs, push ups for 15 – 20 min. Trust me you will need all of those. Pole dancing is beautiful but it’s not easy. Then you will learn one or two tricks which will be incorporated in a choreography during the last half of the class.
Don’t worry if you don’t have the strenght cause you will develop. The first few classes may be a little overwhelming, specially if the other students have taken there before. But hang in there! It will all come together.
Just like many groupon deals, it may be hard to find your preferred time slot right away but a little patience goes a long way. I have been taking classes for 5 months and usually have no problems taking classes.
A few more things: friendly environment, the studio is adorable (and clean!), you wil definitely learn something!
At last: do not trust your GPS. The address is relatively new and doesn’t show up properly on most gps systems. Pay attention to the directions given by the owner, your friends, or the website.
I highly recommend Kitty Kat for all pole dancing enthusiasts!

I do not recommend this place to anyone. Bought a Groupon for 5 classes for me and my roommate. Went for a first class and since we step foot in that place the attitude of the owner just left me thinking that she needed some customer service training. I am glad some people found joy in her classes, but in my time there we were told off first for the shoes (we didn’t know we had to use a specific type of shoes), then she started doing some remarks as some of us weren’t getting the moves right.
I’m sorry lady, I went there to have fun not for a stripper boot camp. I am paying you for a service the least you could do is guide me if I’m not doing things right and hitting my knee every time I try. Some other girl, more experienced, actually took the time to correct me because the owner didn’t give a damn. Then my roommate was doing a move following her instructions and twisted her knee. The owner’s reaction? she didn’t care. My roommate was furious.
We were so mad and so disappointed that we left the classes go to waste and didn’t return at all.

My girls treated me to a class at Kitty Kat for my bachelorette party. I was so thrilled, but my balloon shortly burst. The owner, Cynthia, is perhaps one of the most unprofessional business owners I’ve ever had the misfortune of spending time with.
Cynthia couldn’t give us decent directions to her place of business. She told us it was because we were from out of town. Now, it’s fairly easy to get around Miami, and street numbers DO exist for a reason. Nope, she just snapped at my girlfriend and told us not to be late. We eventually found the studio and walked in. We were greeted unenthusiastically by the owner, purchased waters and began to dance around, waiting the arrival of other girls. Damn, I have never been grilled so hard for having a little fun. It’s puzzling that Cynthia owns a service business where she interacts and teachers other women. Because her barbs, sharp looks and lazy attitude in teaching sure make it seem like she hates women.
When class finally began, we were berated for not bringing high heels. Of course, we were never told to do so. The owner challenged how «sexy» we’d be able to act without the heels.
We were lead through a rushed series of stretches and were taught a basic routine in three large chunks of choreography. It was fun, but there wasn’t any real teaching or correcting. The owner just stood at the front of the class, loving and admiring herself. That was pretty funny. One of my friends and I couldn’t stop laughing and the owner was pretty upset that we were having fun. She pretty much snapped and asked us what was so funny. Ummm. You are, lady.
There was a major disconnect between the fun aspect and the teaching aspect. It was as if Cynthia couldn’t really pick an identity for her studio.
By the end of the class, instead of feeling pumped and empowered, we all felt sad and sorry.

The most fun I’ve ever had working out was taking the classes at Kitty Kat. The studio has everything you need for a sexy workout, Cynthia is a great instructor, and learning the moves on the pole made it an awesome workout experience.

My 2 friends and I purchased a Groupon deal of 5 Classes for $ 29. Super excited about our purchase we figure out how to schedule the class, to our lovely suprise every class was booked. We scheduled the next available class a mere 3 weeks away. We called to confirm the registration procedures, Cynthia (owner) seemed bothered by us calling to ask her such questions and quickly brushed us off the phone. Finally the day was here to meet the famous Kitty Kat. We GPS the location and arrive at 5 Guys, clearly that was a mistake so we phone Cynthia, she answers «Who’s this?» I answer «Evelyn» She replies «Are you friends with so and so?» I reply «Yes» and she immediately passes the phone to our friend that was already at the studio, very unprofessional for a business owner. We find the location, the studio has 6 poles and there were more than 6 people registered for the class so now we have to share the poles. Before beginning the class Cynthia asked if anyone had taken a pole dance class, I mentioned I had participated in a teaser class at Pole Dance Miami disgusted with my answer she replies «Thats not real pole dancing» among other smart coments. I became a little uneasy I did not appreciate her bad mouthing another company if you have nothing nice to say don’t say nothing at all. We began with warm up exercises for about 30 minutes, keep in mind the class is a full 45 minutes. After the warmup we went on to do the fireman for a whole 15 minutes and then the class came to an end! I loved the class so much I decided to call Groupn and let me them know of Cynthia’s unprofessionalism and lack of customer service, Thank you Groupon for the refund and Thank you Cynthia for being such a Jerk!
ps. If I could I would give you ZERO stars.

I also purchased a Groupon. Unfortunately Kitty Kat’s classes are so limited that its nearly impossible to schedule a class unless you schedule yourself some reminders to schedule a class. In any event, I emailed them on more than one occasion because I suspected my groupon would expire before I had the opportunity to use it.
I never heard back. Today, I called and left a pretty aggressive voice-​mail (after listening to the longest greeting ever) amazingly enough, I rec’d a call back in less than 2 minutes. Since when do business screen their calls? It was Cynthia, and her first words were «Its Cynthia» I was talked down to and told to ‘stand by’ for an opening because I had 6 months to use it and basically it is my problem. Considering that the classes are constantly being cancelled, the least she could have been was apologetic instead of arrogant.
Cynthia is not the kind of person I would like to do business with as her attitude towards accommodating new clients is more like you snooze you lose. Good Luck, you’re going need it.

So, there was this special on Groupon for five classes for $ 29. I have never taken a pole dancing class before but I’ve taken several aerobic classes in the past. I thought to myself ‘its a workout. and its a bargain. why not?’
The studio is a little hard to find. I had to call Cynthia (The instructor. and the woman on all the pictures on the website) twice because I didnt see the place. Finally… out of luck I found it. Its a little place. you’d miss it if you weren’t really looking.
So, I finally get here. late for my class. And Cynthia asked me to just join in on a class she was teaching. She went over the ‘routine’ with me and then started the class again. She even let me stay for as much of the next class as I wanted since I got there late.
I have to say that the experience was fun, after you get over the initial embarrassment. You are, after all, pretty much dry humping a stripper pole in there for all to see! lol
Cynthia is very nice. she does all sorts of tricks on the pole to show you the variety of things you can do on there. I must admit I’m not the best at it. and its not what you’d call an ‘aerobic’ workout even though you do inevitably break a sweat. The whole point of it, as I interpreted it, was just to feel pretty and to move your body in fluid motions. slowly.
I am actually due for number 2 of my five classes this afternoon. so hopefully I am better at it then I was the first time.
For those of you a little curious about it. I’d definitely give it a shot. its not for everyone but its a fun experience and it really cant hurt to have an extra ‘skill’ in your back pocket can it? LOL
