I called in my order was told it was gonna be 15 min, I still took 40 mins to get my food and it still wasn’t right when it came, they had the audacity to say well the dinner rush came like my order was of no relevance, this is my second time having to wait forever for my food, my food was decent but not 40 mins worth. The owner seems more consumed with satisfying his friends that come by vrs his actual customers. I’m never coming back. Too much foolishness

For so long i have been trying to make it here for the food. Mostly after i found out my friend owned it but mostly because the pictures on Instagram looked AMAZING! My boyfriend was in town and i decided to take my parents too. My mom is not really a southern food lover, we are Argentinean and are used to steak and more italian type of food but she sure was exited to try. The place is very simple but put together, clean with TV’s everywhere, the staff is incredible, so sweet and so polite, the only thing that was a little strange were the menus, a print out that wasn’t too legible. The food took a little while to come but BOY was it worth the wait. We ate so delicious, left the place in a food coma literally, straight to bed. We ordered the fried chicken, mac and cheese and something else, my bf ordered the shrimp and absolutely LOVED it. Go eat early so you can jump in bed, it will put you to sleep LOL! Can’t wait to take my girls there soon for a cheat meal day!

It appears that the cooler weather brought out the soul food fan in me. Looking back upon these reviews, there’s definitely a pattern. Oh well. I’ll try to keep it out of my usual routine so’s I don’t have anything to worry about 20 years from now. But, I digress… Come to Prince J’s! First off, the look of the place must be mentioned. TPTB put some time, money and attention into the lighting, seating, sound, and layout and that needs to be commended. Whereas a lot of soul food places leave all of the above in the kitchen, Prince J’s attempts to go over and beyond and I appreciate that. Effort matters. Beyond the physical, one also takes note of the effort wrt service. The entire time I was at Prince J’s, I was greeted with smiles, attention and interest… by multiple parties. Again, keep in mind this is a soul food spot in Miami. Bowled over. For these elements alone, I am a fan. But it’s good to note that whoever is in the kitchen knows what he/she is doing. When in Rome, order the fried chicken. This came with a hot sweet & sour PJ sauce. It was definitely finger-licking good. Big, meaty pieces of chicken, nicely fried up and generously doused in sauce will always get points in my book. The sides acquitted themselves nicely as well. The cornbread was sweet(and not dry!), the mac & cheese was perfectly crunchy(reminiscent of church pot lucks) and the collards were seasoned well and not at all bitter. Not only did someone know what he/she was doing, I’d be really surprised if they weren’t from the south or taught by someone from the south. This is really good grub. AND to make things even more awesome, they have booze. The cocktail program isn’t as developed as, say, Regents but it’s not trying to be. My Scarface cocktail hit the spot. Honestly, I was just glad that I didn’t have to order sugary lemonade or fruit punch(even though I would have. Gladly). And, did I mention that my chicken and sides were only $ 12? Yup. Truth. Here. Get fat or die tryin’.

As the previous review I came expecting some trouble after everything I read in the reviews, however I’m pleased to say that everything was great(prices could be a little better) we order the PJ wings, lemon pepper shrimp, mofo drinks, Mac and cheese. Everything was scrumptious and the service was great, our waitress got a little busy with a big party but there was always somebody else passing by to make sure that we were ok and bring us what we needed. I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for good food, great atmosphere, and amazing staff. By the way they have manny tv’s around the restaurant where you can enjoy the games. Downside:it’s a little small they need to get a bigger place with more tables.

We drove way from Miramar to try this place after reading reviews and was not disappointed. The service was good, chicken and waffles were on point, the place was clean and really pretty. We will be back for sure.

I ate here twice and I was not impressed. The food is overpriced; not to mention, I was given a rotten chicken breast. The smell was so horrendous, good thing I didn’t eat it! The drive thru is slow, does it even work? Their phone line is always busy; if you’re lucky to get a ring no one will never answer the line. I can admit the ambiance is very relaxing thus the décor is cheaply put together. I’m not keen to decorating but I am aware of what looks good and what doesn’t. With that being said, the owner is indeed humble so maybe if he would get rid of the individuals who isn’t customer service oriented than maybe this place wouldn’t be so bad.

My girlfriend and I went on a Friday after work around 6pm. First impression, the place is small but very nicely decorated. I was anticipating slow service based on reviews and my girlfriend’s previous experience eating there. When we arrived there was only one other table and their food had already arrived. So I was thinking that service time wouldn’t be an issue — WRONG! It still took about 20 minutes to get our food. Onto the food — I had my mouth all set for the candied yams but they were out! The waiter had informed us that there was just a table of 6 who left after finding out that there weren’t any candied yams! So here’s my question: how do you NOT have them on an early Friday? It’s not like it was the end of the night and you had already run out. Never the less, we stayed and ordered. I ordered the fried chicken, cabbage, and corn. My chicken was tasty but fried a bit too hard for my liking. The cabbage was almost mushy, like it had been cooked and reheated a few times. The corn wasn’t hot and very average tasting. It lacked any soulfulness. I did enjoy the corn muffins! It’s not a place that I would return for the sole purpose of having dinner. The open mic night that other reviewers have mentioned sounds like a nice time so I would consider it given that it is close to home and the ambiance is nice.

This place gets an «A» for service, ambiance, & décor, but a «C-» for the food. The place is very well appointed and inviting, but unfortunately this is a classic case of «style over substance.» I really wanted to like this place as I love good soul food and live only a few miles away, but flat-out the food just wasn’t that good. I got fried chicken and 2 sides… the chicken was too greasy and sides were on the bland side. Considering the premium pricing it is not a good value at all. Aesthetically this is probably the classiest spot in Miami Gardens! BUT I’m the type that prefers substance over style. I’d rather eat in a diner-type atmosphere with great food at a great price, than a slick, pretty place with mediocre food. Hence, 2 stars. I’ll go back one day to see if the food has improved, and will reconsider my rating if warranted.

Ok. After some of the reviews I’ve read(many of which have been removed) & pictures of the food I’ve seen, I was very apprehensive about coming here. I have a thing about soul food restaurants. Basically, soul food is my «thing» so when it’s not done right or portions are skimpy, I have a problem. As a disclaimer, coming here, I was expecting a problem. I’m happy to report that all my fears were laid to rest! I actually came here because my mama wanted collard greens. She was served green beans in a slight gaffe that had me worried(because if my mama couldn’t get her collard greens, there was gon’ be trouble, trouble). But I still didn’t have to fret — her collard greens came out & they were delicious! As was EVERYTHING on my plate. Good lawd, that mac & cheese!!! The best I’ve had at a restaurant ever. Ev-ar. The yams were perfectly sweetened. I had a huge bone-in chicken breast & wing that were fried and then smothered in a down-home savory gravy. Soooo good. My word! So as far as the food, I was impressed by Prince J’s. Now, the service, on the other hand… It could use a little work. A tad. A bit. We were 2 of 4 people on a Wednesday evening and the service was slooow. We waited nearly an hour for the food. Then, as I mentioned above, one of the sides was wrong. Which was corrected but of course, we had to wait even more to get that fixed. Also, the prices. I feel like Prince J’s is trying to be something more upscale than it is. $ 14 for chicken &2 sides is… Well, for soul food in the hood, it’s ‘spensive. And considering that I probably won’t go back to eat-in but would definitely go back for take-out, my only hesitation in doing so is… the prices. So I LOVED my food here but the slow service and inflated prices gotta change before I become a regular. 3.5 overall but the food boosts them up to a 4!

This place is beautiful, although I’m sad I didn’t get to eat the amazing looking and smelling food. I did have a great time here. I came in on a Friday, after being invited to an open mic night. I was über excited to be there being as open mics aren’t something I’ve been able to easily find. This night was RnB night, the talent did not disappoint there was a birthday party going on that night too. The entire party was waited on swiftly and everyone was happy. The DJ kept things light and the artist provided so many good vibes that it was hard not to get lost there. Bonus! The bathrooms are so clean!

The fish was good, the Barbecue chicken was good, the collard greens and string beans were delicious. Now, the fried chicken was salty, and Mac and cheese was okay. The service was a bit slow, but the price was good, so, overall good, but not great.

Went here last night and I must say I was impress. The food was great; I got the friend chicken with mac and cheese and candied yams and my friend got the baked chicken with collard greens and mac and cheese. The corn bread they provided was also delicious. The music was great, loved the atmosphere, and staff was very friendly.

Food was good. Service was great. I ordered the«Not Your Mama’s Chicken n Waffles» and I enjoyed it. Now, don’t order it expecting for it to be the same as Gladys Knight Chicken and Waffles in Atlanta but it was pretty decent!

I expected so much more from Prince J’s. Everything was just average. The décor was nice, the ambiance was nice. But nothing spectacular. It’s very small inside. The server was very friendly and helpful. The food was meh! I ordered the Red Velvet waffles with fried chicken. I expected so much more. Waffles tasted like it was from a box. But the chicken was very delicious, cook just right. If I return, I will have lowered expectations. P.S, I wanted to try their Oreo dessert, but for $ 10? What am I paying for?

I’m not going to give this place a bad review because I appreciate the owners taking a chance and opening a much needed, trendy soul food spot. So with the constructive criticism I offer, do know this, I will go back. I ordered draft beer but they only have bottles. Waitress brought me a luke warm bottled beer. Beer must be ice cold or put some mugs in freezer and serve bottled beer with ice cold mug. Luke warm beer is a no no. My friend ordered sweet tea. Tragically it wasnt real sweet tea. If you are south of Pennsylvania and serving soul food /bbq — u HAVE to serve real, southern sweet tea. Take the time and brew it… your patrons will appreciate it! The ribs were not bad, but not that good either. I’d classify as simply so/so. If the bbq sauce was better i think it could enhance/mask the taste of the ribs. The sauce needs more life. Too bland. Mac n cheese was great, baked to perfection. Greens were ok, but prefer a meat alternative mixed in and would like them more«salty». The design of the place is very cool. TV’s everywhere. Trendy décor. Giant flat screen TV in area where they have entertainment — DJ, poetry night, comedy night, etc. I’m really happy the owners took a chance. We need the community to come out and support it! I think if mgmt tweaks a few things with the food this could become a sought after spot — for locals and those on vacation! I hope ownership is committed to serving good food and giving customers a good experience and not just opening shop to clean what many suspect to be street money.

Waited 20 mins to be seated. Despite the bad reviews, I decided to give this place a try. HORRIBLE! As Awesome as the fried chicken looked it was FULL of salt. The sweet potatoes was super soggy & bland. The collard greens were big and full of salt. Very disappointed. Superrrrrr slow service. Never again. Only reason I give it 2 stats is the nice atmosphere. Other than that, trash.

Um… It was okay. 1. The décor is beautiful, very dark and intimate atmosphere. It looks nothing like the dunkin donuts it was before! However, it is tiny! I dont see how a show can be performed less than 10 inches away from where someone is eating. 2. My servor was okay. He was very charismatic but severely unprofessional. 3. The food was good. I will cut them some slack, definitely not my moms but far from the worst I’ve ever had. I ordered the fried chicken with yellow rice and collard greens. A friend ordered the red velvet waffles and chicken(she said it was good) and another ordered fries that tasted like oreda best, fried straight from the deep freezer. The atmosphere was great, definitely has potential and I hope they only improve by my next visit.
