I am very sad to read the other review and hear about the awful experience his great aunt went thru. I hope things turned out well for her. Our 79 year-old Mom and her 80 year-old husband moved to the Palace Suites in Feb of 2013, mainly due to our step-Dad’s declining health. They both took a variety of meds, and had a little forgetfulness, but were ambulatory and able to care for themselves in general. We encouraged them to make the move as neither of them really should have been driving anymore and we knew our step-Dad’s decline was not likely to reverse course. Their experience has been wonderful. Very cheerful and helpful staff, wonderful dining room and meals, great afternoon entertainment and happy hour, lots of activities, lots of great residents, and shuttles that take them pretty much everywhere. Most of us kids live outside of Florida, but our brother and his wife live 30 mins away and are able to drop in for visits weekly. We are all so happy that our folks are in a place that keeps them safe, cared for, healthy and happy. But it is an Independent Living facility, so at that point that they need more care, like have to be in a diaper, they will move to the Palace Royale next door, which is Assisted Living, or if even more care is needed, then the Palace Skilled Nursing and Nursing Home next door to that. We’ll all help our parents decide when it is time to move to the next level of care, as Independent Living at the Suites will work great, until they are no longer able to live without help. We are very grateful that they found The Palace complex.

Want your loved one dead in a week? The palace will take care of that for you! Sick of your elderly mother and want to pay $ 4,000/month to be neglected and die a lonely death in the most beautiful retirement home in Miami? Well, this is the place! They’ll paint her nails and brush her hair and take her to eat in a beautiful dining room with white linens, but that’s where their responsibility ends. Enough with the sarcasm, here’s the story at the source of my outrage. My 88 year old grandmother was living with her 95 year old sister until a few weeks ago when she(my great aunt) got sick and her son(my mom’s cousin) realized that she needed more care than my elderly grandmother could provide her with. So my cousin decided to place her in the luxurious Palace Suites… and he is forking over around $ 4,000 a month to do it! Well, she has been there for a week or two and«living the high life» with someone to do her hair and push her around in a wheel chair and wait on her hand and foot. Sounds AWESOME, but apparently that’s where their responsibility ends. A few days ago, my aunt got sick. We heard that she was sick from her son and tonight my mom and grandma went to go visit my aunt. My mom who, Thank God, is a nurse saw her and immediately knew that she was deathly ill. She said that if they had not gone to visit her today, she may not have made it to tomorrow. My aunt was laying there in a complete altered state with a high fever, conjunctivitis in her eyes, so weak she couldn’t even cover her mouth to cough… she didn’t even know her last name. When my mom went to help her to the restroom, she noticed that her diaper was completely soaked through with urine. Do these people even check on their residents??? My aunt is laying their dying in her own piss, burning up with fever and no one noticed??! My mom asked one of the staff if they had taken her temperature or blood pressure and the nurse(?) responded with«We’re an ALF(Assisted Living Facility), not a nursing home.» That’s cute. My mom called fire rescue(who were also about to leave her there because fire rescue employees are notoriously lazy, but that’s a different review all together) and finally got my aunt to the hospital where, my mom’s professional guess is, she will be treated for pneumonia. I am praying that she survives. Thank GOD my mom was there with medical knowledge(not that you needed much. a chimp could look at my aunt and see that was very sick) to advocate for her because«The Palace» sure as hell wasn’t going to.
