This place is closed :(I think it’s going to be a mexican place. I was so very dissapointed, I could alrady taste the toast y café con leche. The Frenh place next is good and I got over my dissapointment after eating their breakfast special.

Walking one block from the Bayfront Station metromover will drop you by this little store which I found purely by accident on my way to find some other breakfast place I saw on Unilocal(short attention span?). From the outside, it’s seems more like a contemporary coffee shop the way the interiors are laid out, with mahogany furnishings and lemongrass planters. But it’s food is just regular Cuban food. Nothing special. But to find a regular Cuban place this close to bayside that doesn’t look like a casique is rare and pleasant to say the least. And a full breakfast for $ 5 is always good in my book. The Special is eggs how you want them, buttered toast, café con leche and OJ. Again, nothing spectacular. But for some reason it’s served by a Dutch speaking woman who grew up 20 miles from Amsterdam and isn’t afraid to tell you her life story. My confusion and curiosity is further piqued. So if you’re looking for a simple meal in a place that doesn’t look like garbage and more life a café, it’s definitely worth a try

$ 6.95 for a main and 2 sides = lots of food for a low price. Shared the beef stew with moro and potato ball as well as the ropa vieja with moro and plantains. Both dishes were extremely salty. If the dishes hadn’t been oversalted, they would have been wonderful but salt levels were overkill. Plantains and moro were good. The potato ball was alright, I just wish the exterior was more crispy. The food is served cafeteria style. Service is so friendly and awesome.

I am really not a fan of this little cafeteria. It tries to be more than what it is by upgrading its appearance. The food was just not that memorable with the exception of my rice, which was hard. I despise hard rice. I figured that the place would be better since they were so new and the associates were so nice. I think I am the minority, though, since the place is packed. I personally would rather go to Pollo Tropical for my Cuban Cafeteria Fast Food.

Wow — what a great little find near my hotel in downtown. I was on my walk to pick up a car rental at Hertz(next door)…and I got a whiff of the good food, nice marketing(«home style cuban kitchen») and a good clean business sealed the deal. As an added bonus — I got to try a local non-chain establishment. The food here is amazing and lives up to it’s advertising… Good home cooking — just pretend your grandmother is Cuban and is cooking up some red beans and rice, fried plantains and yucca with mojo! Nice pricing structure also allows you to try 2 – 3 sides with your choice of rice. It looks like the downtown office workers already know about this place as it got crowded right at noon.
