The party itself is lots of fun, but the staff is rude and violent. I saw a guy get violently thrown out for no reason. Very disturbing. This place needs to relax and get better bouncers who aren’t looking to beat up the customers. Bit of a buzzkill…

I went in September with a friend. You are in a night club that plays disco music and the performers are dancing, roller skating, and acting all around you. Be aware of your surroundings or you will be stepped on by one of the actors, it happened to me several times throughout the night. Don’t get there early since the doors basically won’t open until the performance starts. It’s definitely not worth $ 30 so look for an online deal if you are really interested in checking this out and bring a friend/group of friends who love to dance.

We had the exact same experience as Jenny G. About 14 of us went for our work xmas party and were literally stalked and yelled at by the staff all night from the second we walked in the door. I was dancing with a friend and we were doing little kicks. We were told we had to keep both feet on the ground. That is insane! My friend put her drink on the stage for a second and was grabbed by the arm and yelled at to not do that. Then they shut us all off at the bar! We were there an hour and not one person was anywhere near the point of being shut off. My boss spent hundreds to take us there and we were forced to leave early due to the staff. Absolutely insane. I WILLNEVERRECOMMENDORGOBACKTOTHISPLACE. Huge disgrace. We work in a customer based business and would NEVER treat any customer like that. Based on the very light attendance, I’m assuming word has gotten out that this is not the place to go. Good luck trying to stay in business.

I wanted to like this but the staff made it impossible. I would warn any groups or bachelorette parties to steer clear of this place. The performance itself was great, as were the performers, but the staff was overbearing and lacked any knowledge or care for customer service. They ruined the entire experience. After the show concluded, a birthday group we had befriended that paid to be VIP were dancing on the stage. The birthday boy pulled the bride of our bachelorette party on stage to dance with him and the staff immediately ran over and said absolutely not, she’s not allowed. Having paid $ 250 for us to be there we expressed that we came there to give our friend a special night and it seemed silly that such a simple and harmless thing was forbidden, not only for her, but for the birthday boy who wished to dance with her. I mean, what is the problem, it is a place for dancing! Very strange. During what was a civil conversation, the man in charge of our party responded to our complaint by saying too bad, I’m calling security and forcing you all to leave. What?! Then we saw them taking back all of the gift bags they gave us as the beginning of the show, stole them off of our tables. This was a common theme throughout the night. I was approached and told to discontinue doing very harmless things many times. It felt like I was constantly being watched and ticketed by the fun police. For example I put my purse on an unused platform for a second to dig my phone out and was immediately approached and told to get my purse off. The performance was nowhere near me at that time. I sat on the steps leading to the special area for our bachelorette party and was immediately told that was not allowed and to stand up. Releaving my feet from my heels for another second later in the night I leaned my butt against the stage during a time it was not being used for the show and was immediately approached and told to get off. I was then looking through a pile of our jackets in our party’s special area for my jacket and was approached and asked what I was doing. I understand that the show moves around and we should not be in the way or blocking the performers but this was just too overbearing and uptight. In the beginning I loved the show and was thinking I must take my Dutch friend here when she comes to visit in 2 weeks, but I am too afraid to for fear she will get a horrible impression of Americans. Sadly I will not be coming back to the Donkey Show.

I’d give this 4 stars for the show as it’s pretty entertaining, the music is great, and it’s just something different to do. I’d give it ONE *For the bartenders, or lack there of. I’ve been here twice and both times the same thing. You wait forever to get a drink. They just don’t have enough bartenders. I waited 45 minutes to get a drink. It really was a buzz kill on an otherwise fun night. Hire more people!!!

disco fever baby! thats what the donkey show is all about ! a night of neon lights and colors, disco dancing, 70s and 80s music and a show ontop of all that. stages with dancing divas, roller skating and crowd vibing. this was part of our bachelorette party and we had a great time. there is a show that the performers out on based off a «midnight summers dream».before the show its time to boogie and shake ya groove thang! the men dancing were fun and interacted a lot with the crowd. the only down side to the show is when they brought out a rubber spoon and pretended to be doing heroin. that turned it off for me. i think they could have done away with that. i understand it was part of that era but that’s a bit much. there are seats around the dance floor that you can purchase or just stand on the dance floor which is what we did. that was the best spot. i would say that if your going to go, grab tickets off living social. they are only $ 15. i would NOT pay $ 30 or the original price to see this show. not that good for that price.

Ever since I moved to Boston, I’ve heard of Donkey Show by many different people. I was aware of that people go there for birthday parties and bachelorette parties. Finally, I decided to take my time and go there. We went to the Saturday night 10:30pm show. When I was purchasing the tickets, it said the door will be open 30 minutes before the show starts. So we arrived there around 10pm. Unfortunately the door opened at 10:45pm, which was unexpected. I felt really bad for my friend for waiting outside in a bit chilly weather while it was raining. Thankfully, the show was really fun and silly(sorry for my vocabulary, not sure how to precisely describe the silliness of the show). The show was over around 12:30am, which I thought was a perfect amount of time to spend at a show on Saturday night.

Best thing I’ve done in Boston since moving here. Finally, something extremely weird, and ridiculous and fun. Basically you’re in the middle of a Studio 54 type club where they are playing ridiculous 70s club hits while tons of male dancers frolic around. It’s also based on a Midsummer Nights Dream. WTF. Awesome. The characters from the play walk around and intermingle with the crowd to hilarious effect. The play unfolds and is also equally as over the top. I will definitely be back. This city needs more things like this.

DONKEYSHOWFAQ: Q) I’m so confused. Are there donkeys? A) No. Only some women dressed as men vaguely posing like a donkey for a brief period of time. Q) So if there’s no livestock, what’s it about? A) Ostensibly, A Midsummer Nights Dream. In reality, it’s just a super fun 70s dance party. Picture male dancers in short shorts, lots of glitter, a character head to toe in gold buzzing around on roller skates, and the best 70s playlist ever. Q) Oh its based on Midsummer Night’s Dream? I love Shakespeare! Should I see the show? A) Yes, you should see it. But don’t expect to see the work of the Bard– it’s a VERY loose interpretation. Q) My mom/aunt/older cousin is in town and s/he LOVES70s music! Can I take them? A) Totes. It’s risqué, but not overtly sexual. Q) OOH70s! Can I wear my Halloween costume/old leisure suit I have been hanging on to all these years? A) Yeah, that’s probably fine, but no need to dress for the occasion. Most people are in regular clothes. Q) Do I want a table or standing room only? A) Def standing room. Way more fun to be IN the party, dancing with the actors. Q) What if I can’t dance? A) It’s ok, neither can anyone else. Just have fun.

If you’re looking for something exciting for Saturday night, you should go to the Donkey Show. Basically, it is a club night mixed with performance. The location is perfect, too. It’s a 5 to 10 minute walk from Harvard Square station. I’ve been there twice. Both times, my friends were totally satisfied with the show, no matter where they come from and how old they were.(If you are under 21, sorry! Until then!) You can also get student discount, but don’t forget to bring your ID or passport to prove your age, even if you already bought a student tix. The staff double-check your IDs quite seriously, when in the entering line. We almost missed one out of our group because she only had a ticket with no student ID. As soon as you enter, there is a coat check; then, you’re ready to enjoy a crazy night in the darkness with colorful lights and hot shirtless dancers. Oberon is not a big theater, but the floor is big enough size to groove with punk disco music. If you go with your date, so you don’t want to show him/her your stupid-dude-dance, don’t worry. Choose a table and grab some food and drinks, and observe strangers’ hilarious dancing to pretend you never do that. By the time the hype is on, the show starts to reach its climax. The show they put on will make you forget how much time is passing by. They don’t stop to move not only on stage but also stairs, tables, and the floor around you. Among them, a Glitter lady w/butterfly pasties, and roller guy were impressive. You might be curious as to why it’s called the Donkey Show. You’ll find out when you get there. It would be a good show for anyone to hang out w/friends, to go on a date with someone for the first time, or just to release stress for yourself.

Our hostess Julia was amazing. The show was incredible, full of fun. The song’s were awesome a flashback. The dancer’s were athletes and acrobats. Not for the timid or quiet ones.

The main drawback to going to this show was the complete mismanagement of a Living Social deal we had purchased. We had bought a deal for a «glam table for 4» and when we arrived at the box office to pick up our tickets, the woman informed us that it was actually just one ticket for a seat at a table of 4 random people. We were not the only ones to have this problem and we were only compensated by receiving 3 additional dancefloor tickets(so the night wasn’t totally ruined). The management tried to blame the entire fiasco on Living Social, but I find it very hard to believe they never double-checked the ad or email to make sure the deal wasn’t being completely misrepresented. And shockingly the dancefloor wasn’t even packed after having to give out 3 extra dancefloor tickets to each group that had the deal. Which makes me think the management had some hand in creating, or at least not proactively addressing, this problem as well. The actual show was very jazzy and fun, but I probably would have preferred to just attend a dance club with the male go go dancers instead of having to follow the(very random) disco Shakespeare mashup storyline.

If you want to see a gay-themed show with male impersonators and that is all that is important to you, then you will like this. If quality of performance is important, you will not. To be somewhat fair to the singers, having a recorded song playing and asking the singers to match the recording artist’s rendition of the song WITH that recording artist’s singing is just asking for trouble… and it WAS trouble. But the singing was not close to performance quality to begin with. The scantily clad male dancers were good as go-go dancers but that is the most positive thing I can say about the evening. This was not worth my time, let alone the cost of tickets, time to drive there and search for parking. We arrived at 7:15 for a 7:30 show and had to wait out in the cold UNTIL7:35 before we were let in. If you made the mistake of buying tickets to this, don’t make the mistake of arriving early and freezing. Actually, don’t even make the mistake of going — cut your losses at the expense of the tickets. You will be much further ahead.

Omg! SO fun! 4 of us went with no real idea of what we were getting into but just as others have said, think Studio 54 meets Shakespeare. There’s GLITTER and DANCING and fun costumes and drinks and MOREDANCING! The pro-dancers were unreal, hanging from the walls and ceiling and dancing on tables… it was quite a spectacle. Looking for a fun night out with your BFF’s? Throw on your dancing shoes, enjoy a cocktail and get your groove on.

What do you get when you mix Shakespere’s Midsummer’s Night Dream with Studio 54? The Donkey Show! This is the perfect idea for something different for a girl’s night out or a birthday party. High energy, lots of dancing and entertainment. I have been three times: once for a friend’s birthday, and twice because a friend got some free tix. My one gripe about the last time I went… when I RSVP’d in advance, they didn’t get me what I requested… extra glitter and a wheelchair. I mean, really. A girl has needs, and maybe I need to sit and be carted around after my stilettos tell me I’ve had one too many Tequila shots, no? So. Most of the girls are dressed as dudes, some of the dudes look like girls, one girl has butterfly pasties that must be superglued, considering she is tossed around, carried in the air, dancing around, and those things don’t move! There is an amazing man in gold that roller skates all around and steals the bartender and coat check tips. Many men with bootie shorts and a pound of glitter who won’t take no for an answer when you are summoned to dance with them. And then there’s the retarded donkey. I said it. I think it really is, based on it’s facial expressions. You really just have to go to know what I mean.

Fun alternative to a regular night out in Cambridge. I didn’t really follow the story(I knew I should have read the cliffs notes first). It looks like some reviewers have been here more than once, but I don’t know how that’s possible. Go for the show, go for a good time, go for some drinks, but go once.

If you’ve been to The Box in NYC, this is the Cambridge trashy version. The Oberon is a nice venue, one if the nicest in Harvard Square. Been there for drinks few times and enjoyed my time there. The Donkey Show was a big disappointment. The acts are pointless, not attractive at all. And because they keep moving from everyone, you spend the show stressed and being(literally) pushed around. BOTTOMLINE: one time and never again.

I’ve been to the donkey show twice, first time 2 yrs ago and second last night. It’s a really fun time — if you like disco, make go-go dancers, and can handle a few seconds nod to bestiality. You get there, get a drink, and start dancing(if you’re on the dance floor — where you should be), then the show happens around you, with the shirtless handsome young men dancing, shirtless hot young lady w butterfly pasties dancing, and 70s disco dance show everywhere else. Lots of alluding to cocaine use, which is funny the first couple times, then isn’t really. And finishes with some good olé fashioned bestiality. Just right. If you do the later show, you can stay around and dance, which was fun. Good times. Would definitely suggest going if you’re not squeamish.

«The Donkey Show» has become our go cure for the«Hey, everywhere sucks, we’re bored and there is nowhere new to try» blues. The actors are great, the dancers pull you into the action, the bartenders can remember your drink despite it being a packed house and the music will make you«shake your groove thing».(Sorry about that last one). Even folks who have come with us, protesting that they don’t dance are sweaty disco messes by the end of the night.
