Played this course for the first time today. We found the course to be in great condition(especially for mid-September). The tee boxes and fairways were pristine. The greens had recently been aerated(which we probably should have been told when we booked the tee time), but the small holes didn’t affect our putts too much. In general, the course layout is very fair. We found it to be challenging(from the tips), but not too hard. Lots of interesting, varied holes. The price seemed a bit high(we walked), but it doesn’t seem to be too much higher than anything else in the area. The course doesn’t have a ton of water available to drink, just a few centrally located water fountains. A cooler or two would have been nice.

I play here with my EWGA league on Sundays and it’s always a fun time. They take very good care of us from a league perspective. We always play the Sandpiper nine hole course which is deceptively tough! The first hole being a par 5 complete with water hazards and a bridge to cross. The other holes vary in length and difficulty but overall the course is pretty well maintained for a public. Play can move at a decent pace on most weekends. We did nine in a little over 2 hours last Sunday. Afterwards, we usually get a burger or sandwich at the clubhouse which due to its wood décor and smell, always reminds me of being away at Summer camp. The grill is decent and the bartender is pretty attentive. Spring Lake is a great little find out East on Long Island.

Spring Lake is a nice little course in Middle Island and features an 18 hole Course called Thunderbird and a 9 hole dandy called Sandpiper. I’ve only played Thunderbird, so this review is specific to the 18 hole course at Spring Lake. At Par 72, Thunderbird is an average course for Long Island, but perhaps shorter than some other courses in the area. Fairways are wide and the ruff is kept considerably clean, so tracking down your ball has never been an issue. There are very few water hazards, but the extra large greens are generally outlined by bunkers. Staff is very friendly, the club house is basic but comfortable and the pro-shop carries the basics anyone would need. Overall, a nice course for novice golfers.

This course is one of my favorite local courses. I play about 45 rounds a year at this course. I like the fact that it has a separate 9 hole course. The greens are among the best in the county; the tee boxes are extremely long — allowing for many tee positions. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Grass practice range. $ 21 for 9 holes… one of the best deals around.

This is an old scenic course. Unfortunately it’s starting to lack upkeep. The course does have a good layout.
