I love Lifeworks even though I have been a member there for the better part of 14 years and they won’t give me my «gold club» card because I moved to Columbus for a while and broke my streak and had a couple times I tried other gyms. Having been to literally like 20 gyms over the years I think I am qualified to say there really is not a better place(especially on the west side) than Lifeworks. Even at it’s dirtiest which hardly ever happens it is cleaner than your other local mega gyms(no names please). They have everything you need, and they charge enough that the place isn’t chuck packed with kids. Their customer service is great. The billing department worked with me when Jimmy Johns stole my credit card number. I have been one of the biggest proponents for them I have brought at least 20 people in over the last few years. The only reason I do not give them all stars today is because they took away a basketball court for some new program. That is a huge bummer, and now every time I go there the court they have left is full. However, if you are looking for a gym and don’t mind being around 60 bucks a month for an individual account there really is no other choice than Lifeworks.

I would give Lifeworks a 3.5 if I could. Here’s the skinny.(no pun intended) Cleanliness — 4 stars. They’re good. For the most part, they’re on top of stuff, and I almost always see someone in the locker room collecting towels /cleaning something. My one compliant is the inside of the lockers in the winter. People, put their nasty snowy, salty, muddy crap in the lockers & then I don’t want to put my clean things in there. Of course, this could be alleviated if people would just leave their nasty snowy, messy gear outside the locker. Showers are clean, with good water pressure, and yay, you offer soap, shampoo, AND towels so I don’t have to bring my entire bathroom with me when I come to sweat. Friendliness — 1 star. Ok, you guys pretty much suck. I was a member here a gazillion years ago & I left because I felt you were a bunch of stuck — up, pretentious, gym workers /goers. You still kind of are, but now that I’m older(le sigh.) and less desirous of interaction with you weirdos, I’m generally okay with your lack of interest in my as a human being. Equipment — 3 — 4 stars. Generally equipment is in good working order, clean, and functional. I wish there were some more multi-use pulley system weight equipment, and maybe another squat rack or two, but for the most part the equipment necessary is there and functional. You aren’t getting a dirty, garage style here, and you typically don’t get the power-lifter type here, so what you have is a.ok. The cardio equipment is plentiful. The pool, well the pool is great, even if you have to share a lane from time to time. Classes — I can’t speak to the classes, cause I don’t like classes. If I did like classes, I might try the Tabata pool class, the TRX class, spinning, or yoga. But I don’t so don’t ask me if they’re good. People do attend them and some appear to be VERY eager to get to the classes too. Cost — 3 stars. Eh, its ok for me at this point in my life. The aforementioned gazillion years ago, they were over-priced if you asked me. For me, it is about $ 55 a month. I’m sure there is some wiggle room on either size depending on age, where you work, how many you’re buying a member ship for etc. That all being said, I’d give the place a 3.5−4. It is the nicest place around with the services & classes included. Its a grownup gym, not a rec center, and not your buddy’s garage with his old rusty equipment. Sweat on my friends.

The daycare center is great and I give the daycare staff five stars. On the other hand the rest of the facility’s staff isn’t as kid friendly. I had an awful experience tonight that now has me wanting to end my membership. My son had to use the bathroom after I picked him up from the daycare center. As soon as I took him through the gate which leads to the locker rooms and fitness area a female staff member came running out of her office to stop me and rudely yell at me. I was just taking my kid to the family locker room so he could use the bathroom but the staff member just kept yelling at me about no children on the fitness floor. It wasn’t like I was taking him in the direction of the equipment or even to the ladies locker room… we were going to the FAMILY locker room. We weren’t even on the«fitness floor». I have never felt so unwelcome or embarrassed. I do not recommend this gym.

Overall I like Lifeworks. The child care area is outstanding… my kids love it, the locker rooms are kept clean and it’s not overly expensive to join. For the most part they have all the classes an amenities you could ask for. My only complaint is that when equipment breaks it seems to take an inordinate amount of time to be repaired.

As part of Southwest General, Lifeworks offers a bunch of programs and deals a lot with rehab and massage. I use lifeworks solely as a workout facility. And it’s the facilities are what lures me in to Lifeworks. And it’s not super ridiculously expensive. I’ve joined or visited most all of the gyms in the area here, each having their individual perks. I personally love workout classes and Lifeworks offers a wide variety for every level; land and water. The locker room is spacious with nice showers providing shampoo, conditioner and body wash. There is also a hot tub, steam room and sauna located right in the locker room. You’ll definitely make some friends in there. With a new memberships, Lifeworks gives your 6 free training sessions, as well as a few other paid for amenities such as a free Pilates session and a hot water massage. Still being a new member, but have generally been impressed with the services and facilities and am currently happy with my choice.
