This is a really good bakery. I love their donuts. Huge selection. They have good coffee, and lots of other stuff to browse. The only thing that sucks is some days in the summer they get so busy it takes FOREVER to get service.

Went back and tried the donuts again they are much better than the other two times we ate there. The yeast donuts were good as well as the glazed. We tried several others which were ok. We travel alot and eat donuts all over the country. While these may not be the best we have eaten they are the best in the Shipshewana area. The sausage rolls are still some excellent eating. If you are a tourist in the area and are enammered by the whole Amish mystique you will like this bakery. It may not be as good as the bakery in LaGrange, it is the best in Shipshewana.

Tried for the first time and they were absolutely amazing, I would highly recommend. I was told to try their caramel cinnamon donuts and they were melt in your mouth goodness. I will be going back multiple times in the near future. Ps they had free samples

YES! YES! YESYESYES! Holy heavenly donut paradise. Seriously, I’m not sure why I’m even writing anything further… get there, go there(get there on an empty stomach). Don’t be afraid of the full parking lot, the lines move fast… but so do the donuts. There’s also a million other amazingly delicious things to buy and meals to try. Just go. now. :)

5⁄5 because the cinnamon donut(or donut holes) are by far the best donut-y thing I’ve ever eaten in my life. Trust me, I’ve eaten a lot of that junk. I chaperoned a group of 50 seniors to Amish country in Indiana. This was one of the stops recommended by our tour guide, Bill. Coming from a guy who has lived in Middlebury his entire life, you’ve gotta trust what he says about what’s tasty and what isn’t. The shop was clean and well-maintainted. All things sweet are sold here and they even have a deli counter. You can order sandwiches to-go or to eat in the shop. The employees were Amish and so friendly. I bought a Pepsi for our bus driver and the woman at the cash register wondered how much I pay for the same bottle of pop in Chicago… I said, «at least twice as much as this.» I left with a box of the the aforementioned donuts; 1 doz. for $ 8.99. I gave them to my husband to share with his coworkers. They were a hit. Another must-stop if you’re traveling around, near or through this area. Someone mentioned that Rise ‘n Roll is now a franchise and that there’s a location in Chicago; I have yet to see this for myself. Items are moderately priced. Also, check-out the bargain shelves near the entrance. Lots of good deals here.

If you happen to find yourself in Shipshewana or surrounding areas, you must make it a point to stop by Rise ‘n Roll Bakery & Deli in Middlebury. Everybody knows Rise ‘n Roll. If you’re new to the area, you’re bound to hear about it. And the greatest part is that this establishment with humble beginnings humbly delivers fantastic products, day in and day out. The baked goods speak for themselves. They are the result of a finely tuned operation that occurs during all hours of the night, made by hands of hard workers we never see, but are thankful for. The daytime staff is just as important. They are some of the friendliest, most helpful & hard-working individuals you will find under the same red roof. Someone is usually cleaning. If you like a clean establishment, Rise ‘n Roll is the place to go. If you decide to have lunch, service is excellent and pleasant, and food is consistently good. It is easy to get lost in jams, jellies, breads, pies, and the vast number of items one can take home. Remember to breathe! Whatever you decide to purchase will probably be tasty. Delicious, consistent, clean, & friendly. For an establishment to succeed at all of these qualities is a rarity today. «Donut» forget to thank the employees, or converse with them. They are dear to me!

This place is a little slice of heaven — really! The Carmel cinnamon donut holes are to die for, and I am serious! Buy two boxes at a time. You’ll be glad you did! I look forward to our trips to Middlebury just to go here and to shipshwana

OMG! We were told about this place in Shipshewana, IN.(Yes, that’s the real name.) After leaving Auburn, IN. after attending the christening of the granddaughter of my wife’s best friend from the Nazarene college, we were told that if we had the time we should definitely check out a little Amish community in this town and especially a doughnut shop called Rise and Roll. Well, doughnut shop is a misnomer to put it mildly. Yes, they had doughnuts, but so much more. One could sample nearly all of the hundreds of salsas, apple butter, and chips. A beautiful young Amish gal by the name of Sarah served us and told us that since we’d gotten over $ 50 worth of stuff(really easy to do), that we were entitled to a special tote for our things. She freely answered all my questions about the difference between Amish and Mennonite religions. It didn’t really matter that the tote would only have cost three dollars to buy it outright because we got this one for FREE! LOL Of course they had an assortment of cheeses(except for my Limburger that I like). Don’t curl your noses up! If you could get it past your nose, with a dill pickle, onion, mustard on rye bread, you’d like it too. I grew up on this stuff at home as a kid. Good stuff! LOL They had a wonderful complete deli with individual sandwiches or meals and SOUP. I was really hoping to have some old fashioned pork and bean soup, but they only make two soups a day and this was not the day for bean soup. The two choices were green pepper soup and a new one, creamy cheeseburger and potato soup. I chose the latter. When I took it and the rest of our goodies out to the car and went back in to use the restroom before continuing the rest of our four hour trip back to Columbus, I discovered that my wife, Marsha had gotten into my soup and wanted to go back in and get some for herself. The soup was creamy like potato soup, but had chunks of flavored ground beef or chuck with potatoes and onions throughout. We also picked up a brand new bag of veggie chips, but unlike the normal dry cardboard taste, these were seasoned and quite tasty. So, if you ever are going through Shipshewana, IN, stop at the Rise and Roll Bakery.

Eat here. Preorder bakery items for pick up. Go in and buy gifts from their store. Any adventure you choose to go on here will be the right choice. Fun drive to get here and even more fun once you arrive. The Crazy Man sub is amazing!!!

AMAZING! Cannot wait for South Bend/Mishawaka/Granger location to open! My personal favorites are the cinnamon caramel donuts/donut holes(great even after they’ve been frozen), peanut butter granola bars, cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting, and corn salsa. Service is always great although the waits can sometimes be long. I’d definitely recommend calling in your order or coming early in the day to ensure that they still have it in stock. My only complaint is that they no longer have free samples of everything. That was a great way to learn about their products and figure out what to try next. Well worth the drive from Granger.

We stopped by here on the way to Shipshewana. Even on a gray dreary day the place was packed. That’s a good sign! We wanted to eat breakfast here so we sat down like the written directions instructed. However, we weren’t helped for a good 5 – 10 minutes. We were even questioning if we were doing something wrong. But finally, someone came to take our order. We ordered some breakfast items and a cinnamon caramel donut. The donut was amazing. Please get this. It’s as good as everyone says! After breakfast we perused the aisles of canned goods and baked goods. I wanted to buy so many things. I sampled a bunch of jams and pickles that were all pretty tasty. Good thing I don’t live closer or I would stop by all the time.

The bakery goods at Rise n Roll are exactly what I think of when I think of Amish cooking. First off, fresh, fresh and fresh! And that is easy to understand as they likely sell out of most of their donuts, breads and the like daily. We had a couple of breakfast items, very limited menu, but everything was very tasty. Our Mennonite server gal was very smiley and pleasant to chat with. And her service was fast! Of course we left with some prepackaged boxes of the Cinnamon Caramel donuts to share with others back home. I must agree — their most popular donut is for real. It was GOOD!!! You won’t be sorry for stopping by — unless you are on a diet!

We decided to let our high school son drive us out to Rise and Roll. Only driving through one red light(it wasn’t his fault entirely) and 100 minutes later, we arrived. Based on the reviews I read earlier, we were on solid ground getting the cinnamon carmel donuts as well as cinnamon rolls. We actually ordered a dozen donuts … no, not for the three of us to eat there but to bring home with us. The cinnamon caramel donut was heavenly. I’m not a huge donut guy but the texture reminded me of a Krispy Kreme(though not hot). The yeast raised donut melted in the mouth while making a mess of the mouth with the cinnamon caramel crumbs. The cinnamon roll was equally as delicious with cream cheese frosting. Yes, cream chese frosting is the right way to do a cinnamon roll. I’m not sure how often we will make the drive to Middlebury but I would say these are some of the best donuts I’ve had. We’ll be back for more at some point…

Was expecting fresh, home-cooked foods. Ended up with something resembling Subway meets Stadium stand fare. Everything was served on Styrofoam.

I don’t understand why this place is so packed all the time. Perhaps it is because I do not have a sweet tooth and don’t eat any of the items for sale? The husband does, however, and so every time we are in town, we head over for his fix. They need more space, because people act like choosing a donut is their largest life decision and block the area for everyone else. A woman buying 6 took 15 minutes to make these choices. And, the parking area has NO room, so people double park or have someone else wait in the car and make a mess out of the whole area. And seriously, people, they are NOT Amish anymore — it says it right on their website…“In early 2009, the young Amish couple decided to sell their business to a non-Amish family and moved it to a new facility. The original founders of the bakery are still employed by Rise’n Roll and are active in the day-to-day operations. In 2012 Rise’n Roll Bakery sold its first franchise, and a Nappanee location was opened. In 2013, the decision to continue with more franchises was made, and is currently being pursued by several possible candidates. ”

Oh my, crack donuts! I can’t say I’ve ever had any donut like cinnamon caramel one here… literally had goosebumps on my first bite. I had to return the next day to make sure I stocked up to take back to Chicago with me and share with my family. I don’t know if they ever made it home :) And little did I know they actually come to the farmers market here at home… this is going to be dangerous.

Why, oh why, did I only get one of the cinnamon caramel doughnuts and one cinnamon roll? I am back home now and have tried a bit of each one and they are absolutely incredible! I’m generally not a doughnut kind of person, but I tried a sample of what they had out and liked it, so I thought I’d indulge. Unfortunately, I did not indulge enough. Even a day later and after being in the refrigerator, this doughnut is nothing short of amazing. The cinnamon roll(good ones are my downfall) is pretty good, too, with a nice amount of cinnamon and none of that pre-fabricated taste that cinnamon rolls so often have. And the cream cheese frosting is like a taste of Heaven. The cream cheese flavor comes through loud and clear and puts all other cream cheese frostings to shame. At the end of my transaction, I was offered a free cup of coffee, which was also very good — much better than the swill I got from the hotel. Perhaps it’s a good thing I live too far away to go back; I would be in some serious trouble if Rise ‘N’ Roll were close to me!

27 reviews with a 5 star rating? How good could these donuts be? Oh, they be gooood! Besides, I like to top off a gluttonous Thanksgiving weekend with– you guessed it, more gluttony! ;) Listen, I’m a Unilocaler through and through, so if I see a rating like that, I’m going to stop and try it out. Sure, I’ll get a donut(even though it’s not a cupcake, it happens). So we walked in and ordered the bavarian crème filled caramel cinnamon donut, that way I get to have a crème filled donut which is my preference, plus it would be like getting the ‘regular’ highly touted cinnamon caramel donut… without buying too many donuts or breaking the bank! I also wanted to try the chocolate coconut someone mentioned. So we decided on those two, then noticed the samples of the regular cinnamon caramel on the counter and tried it. «John! Get the cinnamon caramel, too.» I said. Heavenly, light delicious! The sweet and funny clerk said, «Shall we just round it out to 12?» Haha, NO, but I like the way she thinks! So, 3 donuts for later, that’s not terrible. And now we can check out the rest of this cute Amish shop of food(jarred condiments, snacks, meats, breads and cheeses, oh my). Oh, and with that donut purchase, they offered a free small coffee– nice touch! This was AFTER we found out they stop making sandwiches at 3, and it was about 3:30. Wah wah. Our intent had been to try«the best sandwich I’ve ever had», as written in one of the other reviews, and of course the donuts. So instead, we bought a loaf of the bacon cheese and onion bread the particular sandwich comes on. We are going to try and somewhat replicate it at home. :) Now, this is a decently sized store, very inviting with its beautifully carved(oak?) wood tables and a multitude of arranged jars of items like spicy mustards and sweet and hot habenero bread and butter pickles, and a bazillion flavors of jam and jellies, notably, a lot of seedless varieties and more unusual flavors like pineapple and so on. Even better, there are samples everywhere– and that’s how they get you! Every sample I tried was something above average, truly. I ended up buying those habanero pickles as a gift for a friend(wish I could’ve gotten my own), some Amish egg noodles(for us), that loaf of bread, 3 donuts, and a tiny jar of the seedless blackberry jam; my hubby likes jam but hates seeds like in strawberry, raspberry and blackberry.(He has texture issues. I also call him«no-nuts.» I’ll let you guess why. Haha) they offered a great little gift assortment set of 6 «pick your own» 1.5 ounce jellies for a very reasonable price which escapes me. There was also an amazing 2POUND sausage smoked sausage and cheese roll loaf for $ 10. It sounds pricy, but was huge, heavy and OMG, tasted sooo good, smoky savory moist deliciousness! On another trip, we will definitely pick that up. Suffice it to say, there’s so much to choose from here. It’s a visually appealing store. The prices were low to average for undoubtedly a better product than comparable products, and the staff was friendly and efficient. It is officially a must-stop for us when traveling this route. I can’t wait to try more in the deli and bakery, and snatch up more products as gifts and for just us. This establishment is conveniently close by my out-laws new home. Thank The Lord cuz otherwise the area is a Unilocaler’s nightmare, a desolate wasteland with practically no place to check in other than the occasional gas station– the horror! I’ll leave you with my non-Yelper friend’s quote, as we halved 2 of the donuts with her. «Not greasy, light/fluffy, no huge gaps in the dough, and the cinnamon… perfect. There’s your review ;) bwahahaha»

Wow wow wow, so delicious I tried their pecan brittle and cashew brittle. So fresh and crunchy and delicious. What really surprised me is that the brittle did not have that hard to bite toffee like-taste but rather I could taste the generous cashews and pecans embedded in delicate and velvety chocolate. It is so good you just want to take the whole container and eat it all in a corner by yourself.
