My-oh-my! I felt like a kid again strolling around Amato’s, there is so much to look at! Classic toys, the latest and greatest stuff, puzzles and board games — there’s something for everyone here. I’d be lying if I didn’t admit I was overwhlemed. We came in looking for new puzzles, but I ended up losing myself in reading about the electric radio helicopters and airplanes, RC cars and trucks, science experiment kits; aisles and aisles of car kits, plane kits, boat kits, and military models… oh man. They also have newborn baby gifts, plush animals, all-things princess, creative preschool gifts, dolls and stuffed animals — Amato’s is a REAL toy store, you gotta check them out!

This place is amazing. My boyfriend and I started designing life like model scenes though out our house. We are working on a train design. Your items are amazing. Can’t wait to get started. We will be back.

Cute fun toy store! Love shopping local but prices are a little higher so keep that in mind… This store is a classic toy store that you never see anymore so it was worth just going inside and checking it out. It reminded me of the toy store from home alone. Service was great, I did find it interesting that would be vacuum while they have customers in the store, but maybe there was a spill. It is a great place to shop small and pick up a toy!

I love supporting local businesses and I love the old school feel of Amato’s. They have all the trendy new stuff that kids want, but without the feel of shopping in a big box store. The employees are super helpful and the prices are fair for the most part. Occasionally there is an item that is priced much higher than normal retail, but that’s not the norm. We love shopping for our niece and nephew at Amato’s. They have a great selection of craft type items(make your own mosaics, shrinky dinks, etc), girly stuff(nail art kits, etc), science stuff, just lots of great things to choose from outside the normal games and toys. They will gift wrap your purchase while you wait and exchanges are allowed without the need to remember a gift receipt. At the holidays, they do a major train display. They also do other special events throughout the year. There are still reasons that you may need to go to Toys R Us from time to time(Amato’s doesn’t sell items like bikes), but whenever we can, we choose to give our business to Amato’s.

Amatos hobby store in Middletown really disappointed me today. I bought a battery from them for my Quadcopter about a month ago. The battery ended up defective and they would not replace the battery this afternoon after I stopped in politely asking them for a replacement. They claimed I overcharged the battery and it was my fault?! They will no longer get my business, as I will inform others not to risk shopping there either. I wasn’t even asking for my money back? Just a replacement. Bad customer service. Very disappointed. Thanks Amatos, I will be finding all my hobby needs online. UPDATE: I am now using Branford Hobbies for all my hobby needs. Bye Bye Amatos.

You’ll find every type of traditional toy, For every girl and every boy. And if you like models, search no more: Amato’s is your type of store. When I say«models» above, I’m not talking about Gisele. This place has every type of model plane, car, tank, and train that you could ever ask for. They also have a huge assortment of toys for children including the newest line of LEGO products. There are uniforms and other miscellaneous equipment for boy scouts as well. My favorite section is the front of the store, where you can find little knickknacks and gag gifts ranging from $ 1-$ 5. If I want to buy a small gift for a grab bag, a «just because» gift, or something for my cat to putz around with, I stop by Amato’s. The thing that really sets Amato’s apart from the crowd is the service. I needed to buy a gift for a 1-year-old’s first birthday party and I was clueless. I was directed to the right section and given feedback on that year’s best sellers. I was even given the option at checkout to have my present gift-wrapped for free in a nice purple bag with ribbon. You’re darn tootin’ I capitalized on that offer. Support local business, and shop at Amato’s.

I went here today to look for a birthday gift for a three-year old. I suck at buying gifts for toddlers because children scare me. Thank goodness for the wonderful people who work at Amato’s, who helped me pick out the perfect gift for the three-year old(a doctor’s kit toy and a faux shaving kit for bath time). Both were a great hit! I love the fact that the front of the store is designed for kids(and burners – lots of laser toys at cheap prices), and the back is reserved for train fanatics, what my people(the Japanese) call«densha otaku.» I got to witness people older than me drool over specific train models and talk extremely enthusiastically with the people who work in the back. It was like a little piece of Akihabara in this not-so-Tokyo town of Middletown. It was awesome.

I took my daughter to Amato’s just for fun last Saturday. Let’s just say that from the moment we showed up, to the moment we left, she was glowing and had no idea how to handle being surrounded my so many toys! Oddly enough, while we were walking through the isles of DIY car models, I was also glowing! I ended up finding a model that I’d been looking for since 2010. Unfortunately there was no price tag on it, so I took it on up to the register with me at the end of our visit to find out the cost. We ended up picking up a few great toys for her that were leaps and bounds better than the new-age stuff at Toys-R-Us. The staff was very nice and helpful. I’m definitely a fan of Amato’s simply because they are a REAL toy store with a TON of intuitive toys, hand-made items, and even plenty of items for us older«kids» instead of all the plastic things that own nearly ever commercial on TV.

Going Christmas shopping here was an absolute treat. I only have two kiddos to buy for(bf’s niece & nephew) and the array of(affordable) games, crafts, science sets, goody bag knicknacks and hobby supplies is unreal!
