Amazing toy store with fantastic prices. Items you can’t get anywhere else close. Love having this gem in town! New owners are fantastic!

Funtopia or FAO Schwartz? You decide. This tiny building is packed to the gills with quality wooden toys, kites, RC toys, kids’ books, musical instruments, games, drawing & painting supplies, trinkets, and much more. If you can think of something fun for a kid(or a childish adult) to play with, Funtopia probably has it. I had to quell my urge to walk out of here with an unmanageable double armload of goodies, since my post-Christmas cc is maxed out. Well heeled parents on a weekend getaway, don’t fail to stop here to bring nice gifts home to your young-uns. They’ll encourage you to go to the wine country/hot springs/MiddleOfNowhere again soon.

What a pleasure to support a local store! This store reminded me of when I was a kid. I was able to find plenty of goodies for me kids and even for myself. They have packed in so many fun things into their store. I strongly recommend Funtopia!

Hidden Gem. That’s the best way to describe Funtopia. I had the best experience I could ever have at a toy store. Being Labor Day weekend, it was all I could do to hurry home after work to pick up the family and head to Funtopia before it closed. Of all the weekends to be invited to a birthday party. We got there right at closing time, yet we were invited in with a warm smile. The selection, variety, and quality of the toys available is astonishing. The whole first level of the house is filled with toys for all ages. We mainly hung out in the baby section, and there were a lot of eco-friendly and kid safe toys to choose from. After choosing a couple of toys for our own baby, we asked for help choosing a toy for my 4 year old nephew. After a great suggestion and ringing up the purchase, we were offered free gift wrapping. Score! We signed up our baby for the birthday club, and next time we visit we will sign up for the customer rewards club. I know I got the names wrong, but just ask and they will know. We found our go to toy store for all of our growing children’s toy needs :). Selection: A Cleanliness: A+ Customer Service: A++

What a wonderful store. Their toy selection is fantastic. First time I went into Funtopia, I wasn’t expecting much. It looks small from the outside, but it’s a magic rabbit warren of well-organized rooms teeming with fantastic toys, and it’s now a must-stop when I drive through Middletown. The toys are quite obviously chosen by someone who knows what a child likes, what will withstand the rigors of play, and what will stand the test of time. I also like that the owner works to stock a good selection of high-quality American-made toys. Price-wise, her prices are quite competitive, and compare favorably with online stores. They are definitely better than the prices at similar stores in San Francisco. Yes, I am a Funtopia fan!

This is a nice little toy shop off the beaten path. Typically we make a bee-line for my in-laws, but this past weekend we took a couple of detours, Funtopia being one. My husband and 12 yo daughter had shopped at Funtopia last summer and purchased a rainbow whirlygig for me. My daughter really wanted me to see this shop so we stopped. They had a great assortment of toys for infant-older kids(and big kids like me) nostalgic and new. The prices were a bit higher than other toy shops I’ve been to though I understand the remote location is probably the reason why for the additional markup on some items. The shop itself is located inside of a great vintage house with creaky wooden floors. This isn’t a deal killer, but a gripe nonetheless… when I went to reach for an item I ended up purchasing my hands went through a spider web. I pulled back my hand when I saw movement and realized there was a spider making a home in that display. I realize it’s hard to keep spiders at bay, but making sure customers aren’t finding insect booby traps when trying to look at a potential purchase is good practice. The service left me wanting. We walked in after another group of people, but the manager only came out to see that someone was inside(bells on front door alert arrival). We were not greeted enthusiastically nor warmly without so much as a smile. I made the first greeting, but the reply was not inviting. Even at check out the service was wan. She perked up a little bit when I cracked a joke, but it was half-hearted. I’m willing to give a 3 star here because maybe she was just not having a great day. However, when I drop an unplanned $ 40 at a local toy shop where I’m paying a premium and could easily wait 2 days with my Amazon Prime membership to get the same items for a little less, I expect EXCELLENT customer service. I’m not talking Mr. Magorium level, but something a bit more effervescent considering it’s a toy store. I always try to support small business, but the business/customer service has to be worth supporting. I hope should we decide to stop again some day that the service is more friendly and inviting.

If you ever decide to explore outside the Napa county wine country this is the first place to stop. Why? Because whether you are six or 26 you will have fun in this store. Funtopia has everything, literally. The store is filled with toys and each nook inside this old-house-turned-into-amazing-childhood-nostalgic-memories is categorized by age group and by the time you make it to the back of the store you wonder how did the owners get everything in here and know where every single item is? Anyways, it’s a neat store owned by cool people and definitely worth checking out.

Why is it that so many little mountain towns have hidden gems somewhere inside them? This shop wouldn’t be at all out of place in downtown San Francisco — or any major city with character, for that matter — and yet here it is, nestled in the middle of nowhere waiting for folks to drive by on their way to one of the state parks and say«Hey, look! Toy store!». I wonder how they stay in business. I didn’t think there were so many of us running around with ADD and an affinity for giant plushy caterpillars. I’m glad there are, though. Long story short(too late, but meh…): the place has a great selection, decent prices and a very nice staff. All told, I only have two gripes with them and they are small ones. 1.) They don’t take American Express(which wouldn’t even be a gripe except that my Visa card got stolen recently), and 2.) They don’t stock Papo(and considering that they have replaced the Papo goods with giant day-glo rubber dragons, that last complaint is especially petty). The name is accurate. This place makes me happy.
