I absolutely love their unique meads — especially the spicy ones! I have never tried anything like this anywhere else! Their Hunter series meads made with different hot peppers are my favorite treat! We always stock up on these.

We stopped in here on a rainy Sunday afternoon, and so glad we did. It’s a very small but cozy and well done tasting room. They’ve also go a nice patio with ample seating– even a nice fire pit that we’d have taken advantage of if it wasn’t raining. The tastings were fabulous! It’s $ 7 to taste for 6 – 7 tastings including a warmed Mead mixed with local cider. Dan, who did our tastings was incredibly knowledgeable about all of the meads and how each is made. I loved the vanilla one, Castellan! For those who like a little kick, they have some fun spiced varieties called Hunter– each is spiced with different peppers — from chili to ghost. If you’re in the area it’s most definitely worth the stop!

I loved this place. I had never had mead. The tasting was informative. Well paced. Fun. And delicious. Then a nice picnic. And lots of people enjoying it too. They are very nice people that run it too. Very enjoyable bi was recommending them all day to others. Can’t wait for the new tasting room to finish.

Great experience! We were lucky enough to visit when it wasn’t busy. The man(don’t remember his name) doing the tasting was friendly and knowledgeable, educating us about mead and wines. Will definitely go back.

What a great find! Got some local intel from the ladies at the Maple Tree Campground who also gave us good directions to get there. Very adorable little tasting room! They had several kinds of mead available for tasting and plenty more available to buy. We tasted all of them and we enjoyed the tasting so much that we took the pourer’s word and bought ones that were not on the tasting menu. While it might seem like it is out of the way, it is worth the trip out there. How often do you come across a Meadery? Not very often. If you are in the area this is definitely worth your time.

My husband loves mead. It is his drink of choice, so much so that he and his friends started brewing their own mead(Oh, the joys!). For me, any wine is an experience, one I want to enjoy without a honey-covered kitchen. Thank goodness for our latest discovery, Orchid Cellar! We were excited when we discovered Orchid Cellars and got a few friends together for an afternoon tasting. What a lovely experience! First and foremost, the owners are charming, warm, and welcoming. They were running the small tasting room and were happy to tell us all about their meads and cellar. We did a traditional tasting and loved everything. My personal favorite: the Hunter. A mead made with hot chili peppers. It’s sweet, spicy, and quite like nothing I’ve ever had before! After the tasting, we bought some bottles to take home and bought another to enjoy on the patio. We will definitely be back!

I had a great first-time visit to this winery /meadery. The service was incredibly friendly — we were greeted with smiles and hellos as soon as we walked in — and we really enjoyed tasting the meads and wines(especially the Chardonnay). The location was beautiful and I loved the small patio area, perfect for enjoying a bottle. We look forward to returning!

Orchid Cellar makes great wine and a mix of traditional and contemporary meads. Usually Maryland wine is at best gross. Orchid Cellar’s wine transcends the Maryland location and is actually damn good. Their meads range from sweet to spicy, and each is a unique flavor and experience. The winery is small and tucked into the edge of a pretty little valley in Middletown. Worth a visit for a tasting and worth bringing some home to stock up the cellar with.

I stumbled across Orchid at the MD wine festival. It was love at first sip. Their mead is sweet and heavy, not a dinner drink, but an after dinner delight. The glass size you get at the tasting is perfect for serving it to yourself at home. The family is friendly and enthusiastic. The mead is the best I’ve ever had. My personal favorite is Hunter, a mead with a soft heat beneath from it’s infusion with hot peppers. Archer is a close second, both wines have won multiple awards. We’ve been visiting for years and look forward to visiting for many years to come!

I found Orchard Celler among the wineries at Columbia MD, s Wine in the Woods festival. Orchard Celler was a clear standout amount the 30plus wineries present. I picked up 2 meads, Castellan and Hunter. A fun different taste than the normal grape dessert wines.

Would you believe me if I told you that there was someone in the state of MD who had somehow figured out how to grow, press, and ferment a decent Merlot? Orchid Cellar is that place. Orchid specializes in meads — honey fermented with water and/or spices, fruits, and herbs. Their meads were solid examples of the genre, with all running to the sweet Eastern-European style. The Archer(spiced and oak-aged) and Lumberjack(a cyser made with honey and apples) were two standouts, as was the Knight, a lightly spiced mead with extended aging in French oak. But back to that Merlot: the 2010 was solidly fruity with good tannic structure and a style-appropriate oak profile, which came through in the nose. The 2011 was a lighter style with more berry fruit in the palate, an earthier nose, and less wood — almost a Beaujolais equivalent, and would be great lightly chilled on the porch on a warm summer evening. Both are very drinkable, solid mid-80-point wines. Considering that most MD Merlot is utter dreck, these guys are rock stars. The people here are very nice, as well. Go ahead — make a trip on a spring day to taste some honey-wine.

Stopped in on Sunday for a tasting and it was a great experience! I would highly recommend going. Mead is sweet but each one did have a unique taste, and it’s something different then your traditional wine tastings. There were two wines to try and then at the end two spicy meads which were really interesting. All in all, I plan on going back and recommend that you give it a shot! Also a beautiful tasting room and breathtaking view!

If you like mead, go there. I love mead. for $ 5 you get to taste 10 of them. They are making the merlot now that the other review mentioned. I didn’t bother tasting it, I was there for the mead. I rarely drink, and I bought 2 bottles. The honey comes from their own bees, for you locavores. They are really nice friendly people, and pleasant.

Orchid Cellar winery is a relatively new winery specializing in mead(honey wine). I believe many of the recipes are from the owners’ home country of Poland. The tasting room was small but stylish, and the woman working there was very knowledgeable about their products. She told us that while mead is their specialty, the winery is waiting for their first grapes to mature to make a Merlot(not sure of the timeline). Unfortunately, during the tasting I learned that I’m not a big fan of mead. It’s not bad, but just not my preference. They also had a couple wines with a spicy kick if you’re into that. Orchid Cellar is definitely worth a visit if you enjoy honey wines.
