OBSESSED. That’s the only word to describe how I feel after my first visit to the Board Room. My friend and I went in after dinner on a Tuesday night. It wasn’t busy, so we grabbed a table and perused the massive game selection. The Board Room definitely has something for every age, skill level, and gaming preference. All the games are in excellent condition(even some ones that date back quite a bit!) and the staff is really knowledgable in explaining rules and gameplay. When(not«if») you visit the Board Room, do yourself a favor and order a plate of the chocolate chip cookies and glasses of milk for the table. The cookies are made-to-order and delivered hot to your table. This was really the proverbial cherry on top for my friend and I. The Board Room is all the fun of a cozy game night at home, and all the excitement of a night out on the town. A must-visit, and well worth the trip even if you aren’t in the immediate Middletown area.

This is such an amazing concept and great addition to the area. I spent an afternoon there learning various new games I’ve never placed or heard of. Great way to spend time with friends. Good snacks at reasonable prices too!

A few friends came here the week before and I decided to tag along on the second visit, incredibly glad I did. Parking can be a bit challenging since its on a busy street of shops in the center of Middletown, but not too bad. Nice little café feel, we went on a Thursday evening around 6:30 and there was one group playing in the back. My wife and I got there early and paid for our table time and chatted with the guy running the place(possibly one of the owners, I didn’t find out). I had noticed the games for sale up front and saw the one I had come to play specifically, Betrayal at House on the Hill and he was super excited that’s what interested me and found the house copy for us to try. We had to kill about a half hour before the rest of our party arrived so the wife and I played Pandemic for the first time and loved it, then started setting up Betrayal as our friends arrived. Nice clean tables with plenty of seating made it a breeze to set up, and once everyone arrived we started the game and had a blast as our host checked in a few times to see how the game was going. I didn’t end up trying any food or drinks since we were so into the game, but the fresh baked cookies looked so good I’ll have to try next time. We played a card game, Snake Oil, to wrap up the night and started to head out but not before I bought my own copy of Betrayal(which I played 3 more times in the next two day, it’s that fun!). Will definitely come back, great staff and a nice Place to try those games you’re interested in without having to buy them yourself before you know if you like it.

I would live here if I could. The library of games just got a big update of phenomenal games. Additionally I always have a great time here due to the incredibly positive atmosphere that Tenzin has created. You’re always greeted with a smile, the food and coffee is delicious, and the board game selection has risen from enormous to unreasonable.

This is a great little board game café hidden in the heart of Middletown. (Ok, I don’t know if this is in the heart of Middletown and it’s definitely not hidden. I’m just some dope who wandered up here from Long Island in search of rattling dice.) Look for the argyle sign to direct you to a little slice of board game heaven, pay your $ 5 at the counter, check out the snack menu and then head over to pick out a game(or chat with the helpful dude at the counter to choose one) and enjoy with friends! The price-point is WAY below a few hours spent at the movies, the food is MUCH better(I had a pour-over coffee that was perfect), and the lines that your«friends»(because nobody is friends across the board!) drop will put whatever generic blockbuster lines your ears would hear at a flick to shame! There are well over 300 games to choose from; classic Americana like Monopoly or Strategy, Eurogames like Ticket to Ride, cooperative games like Pandemic, and party games that use cards or tell stories with dice(and on, and on, and on…) — you get the picture here? Whatever game you want. If you want to get out of your comfort zone, try something new — that’s the best thing about having a board game café is that you don’t have to spend $ 40 on a bunch of cardboard that your friends will only look at once! The menu is small(think snacks and small plates) but tasty sounding, and I like that they offer a healthy alternative of hummus as an option. The website and Facebook page are pretty active, with an up-to-date listing of rotating events as well as consistent special events like oversized Jenga or a Twilight Imperium day(for my nerdy folk, you know they’re serious when they’ve got a box of Twilight Imperium on the bottom shelf!)

This place is fantastic. I went in today for the second time this summer, and had an amazing time playing funny new games, eating cookies and enjoying the welcoming but chill atmosphere. I was there with 5 other friends, and there was a table with room for all of us to sit and play. It’s also fun to see so many other groups of people around the place — groups of friends, families, and couples on dates(a great date night idea, I might add). There are literally hundreds of games to choose from to play, making it a great value. The owner really really commits to making sure everyone has a great time, and he has amazing plans for this place as it continues to grow. Strongly recommend, and can’t wait to go again!

Absolutely awesome little gem! This place has like EVERY board game ever. You go in, pay 5 bucks and sit in air conditioning and play board games. How awesome is that? No exaggeration, there is like every game I could imagine– Monopoly, scrabble, Yahtzee, Battleship… And all kinds of games I can’t even believe exist! The owner is real helpful in showing you how to play games you never heard of, and they also offer all kinds of snacks and treats. Really cannot heap enough praise on for the concept, it’s absolutely genius! An awesome place to check out if you’re sick of doing all the typical Middletown stuff!

This place is awesome! According to the guy working the place(not sure if he was the owner or not) they opened about 6 weeks ago and are only one of four board game café/bars in the New York/New England area which is awesome! It’s $ 5 for unlimited board game play all day. Their game selection is huge! No disappointment there. They even serve some beverages(non-alcoholic) as well as some nice-sized snack plates to share with the table. Most of the tables are set up for 4 people but there are two larger tables as well. The atmosphere is great, and you could tell the guy running the place really enjoyed what he did! Will definitely be back!
