Unexpected but delicious! Not everywhere that you can find a burrito bigger than my shoe size(13) also the tounge(lengua) is a wonderful suprise

This place is my favorite kind of hidden gem. Great food and friendly staff. My friends got tacos — and ordered seconds because they enjoyed them so much. Carnitas was the favorite. Given the chilly weather I had the beef stew which is a wonderfully simple and delicious dish. I know it sounds weird, but the broth was perfect. Give this place a try, you can’t beat the home made flavors!

This little restaurant was a find for lunch today. It is a little bit of a wait after ordering and reasonably priced, and well worth it because the food is so fresh. I had the beef milanesa sandwich which was so good with a side of beans. Perfectly cooked beef and veggies and bread very fresh.

You are not coming here for the décor. They play spanish soap operas or cheesy spanish music videos at full blast. The furniture is god-awful ugly. And they can take awhile to cook your food sometimes. But man oh man. When you get it. It is for real. I can’t say enough about their green sauce. Up there with Aji Aji sauce from Peru. Kicks my butt and makes me cry for more. They put El Bandido to shame.

Authentic Mexican food. One of the best tacos I have had in a long time. You can’t beat the price either. Definitely recommended if you are looking for quality affordable food and an atmosphere that makes you think you are in Mexico.

i love this place! They really care about the quality of their food, and it is truly amazing! The service has always been friendly and welcoming. I think it’s difficult to find a restaurant like this anywhere– so Middletown is lucky to have this place. A true gem. You will wait a long time for your food because everything is fresh and made from scratch. It’s well worth the wait– you will not regret it! Everything on the menu has been outstanding. Enjoy!

If you are looking for Authentic delicious Mexican food. You’ve found it in this hole in the wall place! The décor isn’t much to look at and the food takes a little while to come out. But Outside of Mexico(yes I’ve been there) this food is fantastic!!! I’m so sad there isn’t a place like this near me in CT and this place ranks up there with two best places I’ve actually liked back in NYC, my hometown. Enjoy this gem, the places near me charge twice as much for a fraction of the quality!

Al Pastor burritos and tacos are RIDICULOUS. Also cheaper than most places, burritos are $ 6.50 and tacos are I think $ 1.50 each? Call ahead though, they make you wait even on simple orders sometimes.

Cheap, delicious, authentic tacos I tried the Al pastor(sweet pork), steak, and carnitas(savory pork) tacos($ 1.25 each). The taco consisted of two soft tortillas, the meat, onions, and cilantro. They were all delicious. The lady who worked there was friendly and helpful with future recommendations. The place looks like a dive but the food shines through. I will definitely be back.

You and YOURFRIENDS Need to EATHERE… or take it to go like I do! (Make sure you read to the end…) Not really sure what to call this place. There’s one name on the sign, another on the window, and another online… I just call it the Taquito place. And Taquitos is what they DORIGHT! Hole in the wall? YEP! This place is pretty much as plain, no frills as it gets and you won’t care a bit! After you have had their food, NOTHINGELSEWILLMATTER. THIS place is the most Authentic food I’ve had since hitting the east coast a few years ago. There’s another place that comes close, but this one still beats it. A real family run affair; Nana(Gramma) and kids, plus grandkids are in the kitchen making whatever you order, TO order.
And YES, you will have to wait, SOWHAT, call ahead! The menu is here online. I have had six different types of their taquitos,(the best way to see a restaurants’ cooks skills) and the ONLY one that was remotely disappointing was the AL Pastor. Those of you who have read my other review of Mexican restaurants may notice that is my pet peeve. You’ve got to get that right, and Al Pastor or the near version, Carne Adobada is NOT sweet, it’s savory, and spicy… and oh so good, done right. And yet I EVEN love their version, despite it’s minor dialectic, regionally influenced shortcomings. And Did you see the prices of these taquitos? $ 1.25 and $ 1.50??? Really? and the food is REAL food! So satisfying! If you’re lucky enough to come on a day when they have Agua De Pina,(Pineapple flavored water) you will be delighted by how refreshing it is. You have to try it! Don’t forget the Chips and Salsa, and for those of you that like it HOT, ask for it HOT and they will NOTDISAPPOINT! amazingly enough managing to combine that extra HEAT with tons of Flavor, …you’ll find yourself fanning your mouth and saying«just one more» over and over. This is my NEWFAVORITEPLACE, and since I want them to be around to satisfy my taste buds for years to come, YOU and all of YOUR friends need to frequent this place! So why only 4 stars? in a word, PARKING, it’s on a busy main street in downtown Middletown, or should I say Old town Middletown, NY. As you can see I don’t let that stop me. Had this place full service seating or Margaritas?, now we would be talking 5 stars, BUT then those taquitos would not be the incredible deal of the year that they are! All of you people passing through Middletown, or looking for a great place from which to feed your office once or twice a week, …call ahead and pick up… …Go ahead have one taquito… or 6!

Really loved this hole in the wall. Service was great, food was made to order(worth the wait), ambiance was meh, they really made us feel like family. Our server let us know that everything is made from scratch every day! Also, if there was a special Mexican dish that we wanted and wasn’t on the menu, then given several days’ notice, they would gladly make it for me! How’s that for a restaurant??? :) Looking forward to our next visit.

Great tacos — these are the best al pastor I’ve found outside of Los Angeles. Inexpensive, too. Rice and beans were bland, but I was there for the tacos so that didn’t detract from the experience. I recommend getting take-out, though. Very little atmosphere here, just a soda cooler and a television blaring music videos. Halfway through our meal, the whole restaurant started shaking with a deafening noise like rocks in a blender. At first I thought they were crushing ice for a margarita or something, but it just kept going and going and going and going and going. We went and asked and it turns out that’s the tortilla maker?! I’ve been in plenty of tortillerias and I’ve never heard anything like it. Anyway, we had to leave because we couldn’t even hear each other talk. Nevertheless, these are some of the best tacos around. Who needs ambiance? Just get a few to go and eat in the little park up the street.

PLACEIS A CRAPHOLE: I will be kind as I give credit for effort & reasonable good customer service. But I went here based upon the reviews on Unilocal& the fact that I’ve been in search of great Mexican food since I moved from California. I was sadly disappointed. Here’s why: There were three tables; family style(fine – many Hispanic families are large and eat as a family). But the tables and the floor were FILTHY. Downright disturbingly filthy. I would normally walk out but the reviews raved all about the food so I just had to find out. The young man greeted me with a great big smile and was very sweet. But none of the women in the kitchen had hair nets on(and they all had long hair to the middle their backs). The kitchen floor, and the looks of the kitchen from the order window were also filthy. Anyway, I ordered a soft chicken taco, chicken sope and beef gordita. Price was good: $ 7.25. I got it to go because there was no way I was going to eat there. When my friend and I got outside she said ‘I cant believe you still ordered; that place was a pig-stye”. We walked over to the local park to eat. When I opened the carton, truth was everything looked exactly the same. I was like«which is what?». Naturally the bread was what helped me distinguish, etc. Okay now that part you all really want to know: was the food good??? NO!!! I’m so sorry — I hate giving bad reviews BUT it wasn’t that is was BAD it just had no flavor!!! None — like, blah! Like, okay I’ll eat it because I paid for it but it was not good and nothing to brag about. The salsa verde WASVERY good – okay, phew, I did find something good about the food. The side salsas/verde were super hot and I loved that. But they didn’t give any side chips or something else. The meat was not shredded but chopped up cheap dark, fatty meat. Seriously, I’m sure they have no choice to have cheap meat because its not cheap renting in Middletown and their prices are pretty low. So they have to cut back somewhere. Anyway, so I’d never go back. And I’m sorry for such a long review. Don’t go unless you want to get food poisening… place is FILTHY.

BEST. TACO. IN. TOWN. No, BEST Mexican meal, in town. This little gem of a place was originally known for making awesomely fresh tortillas for families and restaurants in the neighborhood, but it actually serves up quite the crazy mean meal as well! A group of us tried everything from tacos to chimichangas to enchiladas to beef stew. This place really serves up very authentic homemade meals that you cannot find at other big-name restaurants/chain fast food places — it’s like you come here to for food made by your unknown Mexican mother, totally hits the spot! One tip to note: if they have shrimp available, ask for the shrimp taco as it is not on the menu(put it on there por favorrrr!) — mixed in homemade chipotle mayo sauce and diced onions and cilantro, with slices of avocado on top, I haven’t had shrimp taco like this since Cancun! MMMMMM… Occasionally, they also have specials of the day and the soups are MUSTTRY! Especially on a cold weather day, it is the best comfort food in the area. The place is large, open and very clean. The staff are super friendly(a real mom and pop shop) and welcoming, it’s a great place to hang out with friends/family over casual comfort food. I will definitely come back again and again and again and again… p. s.AND they take credit cards too! 50 bonus points!

Excellent, authentic Mexican food! Very fresh and tasty. I had the carnitas(roasted pork tacos), my husband had the steak tacos. Delicious! Pictures:
