Situated in an extremely quiet and remote section of Midland Park, Park Deli and Mini Mart can be easily overlooked. Unfortunately, it doesn’t deserve to be. Park Deli may just be your average corner store, but there’s much to be commended about this longstanding town business. First, the deli section is, for a business of this calibre, pretty impressive. Before becoming a vegetarian, I remember frequenting this place for chicken cutlets on fresh Kaiser rolls, which were always a treat when I was young. Another notable aspect of Park Deli is its customer service. The employees are upbeat and friendly, and ready to answer any questions their customers have about the products they sell. The mini mart loses points, however, for its cleanliness and pricing. Yes, it’s a convenience store, but the cost of items should be clearly delineated on the merchandise. In addition, the prices could be more reasonable, relative to the item’s value. Similarly, there doesn’t seem to be much effort put forth in regard to the shop’s upkeep. I’m sure this isn’t a priority of many mini marts, so I’ll give them that, but Park Deli could try to look a little more presentable overall. I’m confident that if these two factors were to improve, the place would certainly draw in more business. Nevertheless, Park Deli is refreshing in the era of the 7 – 11 mass convenience store takeover. I truly hope its doors remain open, especially because the quality of its products is regrettably overshadowed by its hidden location and lack of attention grabbing signage.
