Beth’s Alterations Quilts & Gifts

Took vintage coat there to have cuffs fixed, as it was showing wear. I was lucky that I didn’t authorize for her to cut them or the coat would have been doomed to the rag bag. The «fix» was so horrible that I wanted to cry. I immediately took elsewhere to have removed and arrange for a professional alternation. Everyone I show the photos of what they did can’t believe what they did. It is SO horrible.

Two old ladies who probably like to sew as a hobby but shouldn’t call themselves tailors. I took in two expensive pants to let out down the seams. The pants were bespoke suit pants and I was aware that there was a 2.5″ allowance. The lady, who by the way is very rude — just try giving her a call and asking any question — said there was only .5″. I just let it go and had them take it out the .5″ they said they could. They didn’t sew in a straight line, there was a hole — literally a hole where they missed putting the seams together, there was bunching, they sewed into the pants, I mean they just killed it. I probably could have done better watching a YouTube video and having a go myself. Seriously I don’t understand how it could be sooo messed up. I wish I could give them no stars.

If I could give zero stars I would. My mother recommended that I take my wedding dress for alterations by Beth because she was considered «best of the best» in Midland. I live in Ann Arbor and was driving 2 hours each way for these alterations. Every experience I had here was with a condescending tone and disrespect. I am a size 0 and she took in the waist on my dress so that it was so tight I couldn’t breathe and it couldn’t be zipped. Instead of being apologetic, she only made excuses. This happened 3 MORE TIMES. I made four trips to Midland for alterations and by the fourth trip the dress was still too tight and uncomfortable but I couldn’t afford to keep taking all the time to drive there. She did not seem to think this was a problem. As I was doing this months in advance, I mentioned to her that she could take her time with my dress and was response was always, «Heh, when am I not busy?» She had no respect for my time, as if I didn’t have anything else to do but drive to see her.
I ended up taking my dress to a more local tailor who noticed that the corset was sewn completely wrong (leading to my discomfort), the bustle was uneven and bulky, she had taken in one of the shoulders with a quick seam so that the lace no longer matched, and the hem was uneven. Fantastic.
I would absolutely NOT recommend Beth’s Alterations. Terrible service and terrible product. I would not trust her with any garment you like.

Sew, sew nice! Beth’s Alterations Quilts & Gifts repaired my shorts perfectly (replaced a zipper that seemed like an insurmountable challenge for another tailor in town). Beth asked me what I needed done and when I would like to pick them up… all with a smile. More than reasonable rates, pleasant and professional. No worries and done right!
