This was my first visit to Ruth’s Chris Steak House and I was not disappointed. We have been to many upscale restaurants and this one sits up there with the rest. From the time you walk in and are created by the friendly staff to the table service, it is a pleasurable dining experience! Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and she was patient and friendly as well. The food was amazing! We started with a tuna carpaccio appetizer. Three of us got the petite filet mignon, don’t let the petite portion fool you, it was a generous size! We shared the potatoes au gratin and asparagus. Those two were plenty for four to share! The service was wonderful. You felt like they were attentive without being overwhelming! The restaurant itself is gorgeous, in an old plantation house that has a lot of history! Worth the splurge!

It started off an amazing anniversary dinner with great service. At the end of dinner they brought a small complimentary dessert to the table. We both were partaking in the dessert when I felt something hard in my mouth. I pulled it out and it was a piece of some type of wood. I called the manager over to rectify the issue, but all she did was apologized… I’m sorry, I’m sure we just spent an easy $ 155, I feel she could have done more than apologize. I hate to say this, but if I had a different skin complexion, I believe she would have done more than an apology. This is not what I expect from an upscale establishment.

A few weeks ago I visited Ruth’s Chris with a group of individuals. Prior to my visit, I always heard how Ruth’s Chris made other upscale restaurants like Red Lobster and Olive Garden look like McDonalds, but I certainly did not want to take anyone’s word for it. How did my experience go? To find out, read below. The Good: Service– Even with the large group that I was with, service was pretty good. The server attended to our table’s need and corrected any issues that were brought to her. The food came out piping hot and to go containers were provided without request. Taste of Entrée and Dessert. For my entrée, I ordered the chicken breast with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach and for dessert I had the cheesecake. I liked the crispy skin on the chicken as well as the flavors that seemed to work together. All of the food was packed with butter so that alone brought out the richness of the flavors. The cheesecake, while small, packed a mighty bite and was full of richness. Portion Size– The chicken breast appeared to be a full chicken breast of the bird plus a portion of the wings. That alone was pretty filling but the portioned of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach was certainly too much for a normal person to finish by themselves along with dessert. The Not So Good: Taste of the Salad– The salad had fresh greens in it but for me there was not enough dressing on the salad and extra dressing was not brought with the salad. Price– The price is what is keeping me from giving this restaurant 5 stars. Luckily I did not pay for my meal, but had I, I would personally have felt that I didn’t get my monies worth. Even with the great tasting food and large portions, my meal had I purchased it would have been close to $ 50. And that’s $ 50 for chicken, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and a slice of cheesecake. Had I gone to Texas de Brazil, I could have gotten a bigger variety of unlimited food that is of the same quality for a lower price. Overall– I think the food and services were both great, but due to the prices of the entrees, I couldn’t see myself going to Ruth’s Chris for anything more than a yearly special occasion. Nevertheless, I recommend this place to anyone that can afford it because the experience will be one to remember. FOURSTARS.

The filet was wonderful and the service was even better. We have a food allergy issue and the staff could not be more helpful and attentive. Truly wonderful attention to detail. Cicely is a great waitress and Laney is fantastic, she came to our table several times to check on the allergy issue and clarify food choices. Just a great experience.

The calamari appetizer was phenomenal. The Lobster Bisque was one dimensional and flat; truly the Lobster Bisque at WaWA is better. Crab Cakes were back fin and jumbo mix, not Jumbo Lump & had lots of filler and no accompanying sauce, and for $ 31 was definitely not worth it. The T-bone steak and Lyonnaise potatoes were perfect, with the steak needing no knife as it was absolute butter. The crème brûlée was excellent but traditional. JAMES our server was impeccably professional and service throughout was as expected — 5 stars for service. With restaurants like L’opposum offering many of the same items, but far surpassing the quality, craftsmanship and overall cuisine of Ruth’s, I can’t justify another $ 200 dinner here. Ruth’s should pick up its game or it will be relegated to ever dwindling diners, as the mainstay of their patrons seem very much older traditional life long fans of this cuisine that seems passé’ now in comparison, quality and pricing. That being said, the happy hour with better pricing and a bar that offers excellent drinks is the way to go here. Dinner? Not so much.

Me and a friend decided to go on a cold Saturday evening on a whim. Pulled up for valet parking and the attendant was so nice and personable. Inside we didn’t have a reservation but that was ok stepped in the crowded bar but everyone was nice and squeezing everyone in. A couple gave us their seat at the bar and we sat down in oversized leather bar stools and ordered a bottle of Fess Parker Red Blend. To our surprise a gentleman seated near us informed us that that was the original Daniel Boone how crazy was that that he had a winery. As we enjoyed a glass of wine we decided to order dinner at the bar. Our bartender David immediately made us a place for dinner with napkins as a placemat and out got our utensils and gave us menus we went with the Caesar salad and the Apple walnut blue salad both were fresh light and delicious not drowned just right. Then we ordered the 6 ounce filet with shrimp and I had sautéed mushrooms as my side and my friend had the broccoli au gratin our meal was to die for steak was cooked perfect shrimp grilled perfectly and it came on a sizzling plate of food stayed warm the entire time. Now for dessert we both had little miniature chocolate cheesecakes with a chocolate buttery graham cracker crust caramel drizzle and then it was accompanied with dark chocolate walnut cranberry bark and our Fess Parker Wine complimented every course of our meal including our dessert best decision I’ve made so far in February 2016!

My family has a yearly tradition of going to Ruth’s Chris every New Years Eve for over 15 years. We have always experienced stellar service but this year was a disappointment. We arrived an hour before our reservation so that we could have a cocktail in the bar. Of course it was very busy but they were very understaffed. Furthermore, there was a party of 6 that had 3 tables pushed together having dinner. The bar was so crowded that it was standing room only(to be expected) and the waiter was having difficulty getting service to this particular table. The waiter(only one for the entire bar) was very stressed and didn’t hide it. As I waited to take care of our tab, I spoke with the manager and expressed that as a frequent diner I felt that dining in the bar during New Years Eve should be declined as it is one of their busiest nights. The manager was less than receptive and was actually combative about my suggestion. As we moved to our reserved table, it was apparent that they were under staffed there as well. The service was stressed and rushed. We waited 20 minutes after finishing our dinner before our waitress could get to our table to check on us. Ruth’s Chris– next year no dining in the bar and make sure you have adequate staffing for what is supposed to be a very special evening at one of the nicer places to dine in Richmond.

This was my families celebration restaurant for many years going back to 2003. We noticed a significant downturn some 5+ years ago but have continued to go back because of the tradition since my father passed away in hopes that we were experiencing«flukes» of bad food. In our families last visit to celebrate my mothers birthday/anniversary both my wife and sister ordered the fish special of the day(yeah I know, it’s a steak house!). Both were puking their respective guts out by midnight. My mothers steak was perfect. My nephews steak was perfect. My steak ordered medium, came out tough and beyond well done. I waited for a «new» steak eating only once my family was finished. Service was excellent otherwise. A call to the restaurant the next day to inform of the food borne illnesses was met with a «sorry». Nothing else. I know my name and phone number is on file and they can easily see how many times I was a customer of theirs over the years. This experience was the worst of the last few years of over cooked steaks and sometimes under cooked steaks. As someone who ate there at least 3 times a year this was a huge disappointment. Now I patronize their competitor at Stony Point. This Friday is my mothers 75th birthday… we will not be going back.

Food is good and so is the atmosphere. I prefer to go in for their happy hour specials because let’s face it, their food can be pretty expensive.

Quality is top notch as all Ruth’s Chris. The old plantation house gives this more atmosphere then a normal Ruth’s. Dave the bartender is one of the best.

I am not often given to eating at steakhouses, in truth. A part of me rebels at going to a restaurant whose primary lure is something I can accomplish on the grill or in the broiler with a sufficiently good cut of meat all on my lonesome… and yet Ruth’s Chris never fails to please. The food –is– always cooked perfectly [or hurriedly fixed if something is off], the sides are quite tasty [and that’s an important detail that some steak places forget], the staff is unfailingly delightful, and the ambiance in the old plantation house is marvelous. It makes me happy. But my best advice for this location, in truth, is not to just eat dinner there, not quite… My advice is to get yourself a seat at one of the wine dinners– They’re expensive, yes, but they are absolutely worth every penny.

Their Happy Hour is everything! My boyfriend and I went the other day for the HH and were really satisfied. Their chips with bleu cheese are absolutely to die for, I completely demolished the basket. I had the crab au gratin, which is one of my all time favorite dishes. The dip was lovely, but the bread was definitely way too oily. My boyfriend’s spicy lobster was good, but there was a heck of a lot of breading compared to lobster. The service was fantastic, absolutely no complaints there. Next time, I would probably sit on the patio, as the bar area is super dark. It’s less old school gentlemen’s bar and more«we forgot to turn on the lights.»

Staff. Perfect. Recommendations. Perfect. Blueberry Mojitos. Perfect. Steaks. Perfect. Sides. Perfect. Dessert. Perfect. Thanks for helping me celebrate my fiancés birthday, I could not have asked for a better staff! Everything was just perfect that evening. Don’t forget to ask for the wine list to read about the history of the building, that was my favorite part of the evening. Glad we were able to dine in this one of a kind building! Ask for Tim, you won’t be disappointed!!!

Great place to celebrate your wife’s birthday. Sit at the bar and talk for while over a glass of Pinot Noir. Eat some fresh fried chips… Then get yourself some sizzling steak. The service is fabulous. Our steak showed up before we had finished our wonderful salads. The assistant waiter noticed the issue and took the steak back to the kitchen without blinking an eye. No questions asked.

This is my family’s «celebration restaurant.» When we know we are about to go Ruth’s Chris we prepare for the day. I know Ruth’s Chris is a chain restaurant, but you would never get that feeling from this Ruth’s Chris. My aunt, from Georgia, said that they have tried Ruth’s Chris in Atlanta and a few other places, but the one in Midlothian is the best. Definitely make a reservation before you come here, and if possible show up a little early so you have time to sit at the bar. The bar area is so cozy here. You can sit down next to the fireplaces, enjoy a cocktail and a few of their delicious homemade potato chips with blue cheese dressing, but don’t eat too much because the rest of the food is so delicious. When you sit down at you table and you are deciding to order food, I don’t think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. However, you should definitely get steak. I usually split a salad with my sister. The harvest salad is my absolute favorite, probably because of the bacon and cajun pecans and the chop salad comes in a close second. For sides, my family usually splits the creamed spinach, garlic potatoes and the shoestring fries. For the main dish, I either split a filet or get my own petite filet. This is probably one of my favorite main dishes ever. Mainly because your steak comes out sizzling, perfectly cooked with plenty of butter to make it delicious. I love this restaurant and if you are looking for a fancy night out, you must try Ruth’s Chris.

Very long delay between appetizer and main entrée … I’ve been to this location multiple times and had generally good experience in the past. When a restaurant gets busy, I understand service can slow down at times. As usual, food was fine as everyone enjoyed what they ordered; steaks were cooked properly. What bothered me was that we waited almost an hour between the salad and the main course, although the place was not super busy and was only half full. I’m thinking maybe this was an isolated incident, but it took our meal almost 2 hrs. without coffee and dessert. We couldn’t stay longer because we had be somewhere else; therefore, we were bummed that we couldn’t enjoy any dessert. Other than saying our food was coming couple of times, no explanation, no apologies from our waiter. Rather disappointing experience for such an expensive meal … Food … 4 stars Service … 2 stars
