Decent restaurant but a bit on the pricey side. I’ve never left here totally satisfied. Hopefully menu gets a little tweaking.

By far my favorite place! Love eating on the porch in the Spring/Summer! During the colder months my husband and I equally love the downstairs dining room. The atmosphere is great! Beautiful photographs line the walls and the seats are super comfy. The menu is unique and they have an amazing seasonal cheese plate!

Used to go here a lot but for whatever reason that stopped for awhile. Staff was always friendly and the food always delicious. Never had a bad experience there and always recommended it and still do for people to this day. Good beer and wine selection to boot.

Recently had lunch there. French onion was good. Burger was good but too big. Service was decent but not outstanding. A better lunch selection would be nice.

On the pricey side. Charceuterie platter gets smaller and smaller. Beet salad is salty. Wait staff like robots, devoid of personality and any warmth. Hostess gets snotty about reservations. Good stuff: Sushi pizza, short ribs, thai ribs, beer/wine/drink selection, décor/ambiance, dessert. I can’t stand room temp«tap water» as they make sure to remind you when offering Pellegrino. It might grow on me at some point though.

I went here in November and had such a great time. I was thrilled when I saw Bar Louis had a Thanksgiving dinner, family style. I wanted a break from doing all the cooking this year. First off the Turkey was perfectly cooked. We had mashed potatoes and gravy, they were amazing. We had Brussel sprouts with bacon, they were great although I cook mine a little more to be tender, they were more aldente. Then we had stuffing with bacon and apples. This was so good that we had to ask for seconds. We also had green beans and fried onions. I loved them. Then came the candied yams with marshmallows. I guess you either love this or hate it. I would not have them again. It wasn’t for me. To end the meal we had apple and pumpkin pies and they were delicious served with a nice side of fresh whip cream. My drink of choice is the solstice margarita which is a jalapeño and passion fruit mix. I have never had a better drink. They staff as usual was delightful and happy to serve us. I absolutely love Bar Louis. Looking forward to another visit soon. Thank you for a great Thanksgiving.

We wanted someone else to do all the cooking this Thanksgiving. And even though Mom had her harsh critic hat on walking into Bar Louis, I could tell right away that this was an excellent decision. The staff were really sweet and happy to serve. Our waiter Andrew was excellent and made us feel welcome. And then the food came, served family style. DELICIOUS. The turkey and gravy, the stuffing, the SWEETPOTATOESWITHHOMEMADEMARSHMALLOWS! Great time had by all.

I was hesitant to come here because of the mixed reviews. However, I really wanted to come and try out Bar Louis. The restaurant is located in the basement of the hotel. It IS handicap accessible. On the right side of the hotel on the side street there is a door that takes you inside to the elevator. Take to the basement and you are there. The food was very good, perhaps slightly expensive, but we did not have a bad evening. We actually enjoyed ourselves, our waitress was wonderful, and it was a good experience.

Bar Louis is A-OK. My partner and I went there in August 2015 for dinner. The service and the ambiance is wonderful. When we asked to change our seats after they already set up our table, they were very kind and accommodating to us. We sat out on the porch right near the red flowers, which was lovely. The only odd thing was that the lights on the porch were incredibly dim, that we couldn’t see our food. We told the staff, and they did do their best to brighten the lights, which we appreciated. Ultimately, they ended up turning off the lights and giving us a candle, which was romantic but it was at this point very late and very dark that we couldn’t really see our food. I’d say that if you decide to eat outside, maybe go a few hours before dark. Other than that, the ambiance was very nice(4 stars for ambiance and 5 stars for service) The food was OK. My partner and I are foodies and avid restaurant-goers, which I think might be why we weren’t that impressed with the food. I had the trout dinner, which came highly recommended by the waiter. The fish was cooked perfectly, but the sauce, veggies, and potatoes were nothing special to me. My partner had the pork chop, which he felt similarly about. I also had the kale and quinoa salad to start, which was good and refreshing but had no flavors that I hadn’t had before. I did have some wine, which was alright, but I have to say I loved their wine glasses. The rims were very thin, which makes the wine-tasting experience that much more palatable. The dessert we had was like a chocolate mousse type tart, and it was yummy but again, nothing too special.(2 stars for the food) All in all, a pleasant dining experience.

Bar Louis is a classy, fun, hip place that’s great for a date night. All the food is amazingly, delicately prepared. The drinks are awesome, and my favorite dish everywhere… Sushi Pizza — TODIEFOR! Come and check it out!

Great ambiance on the porch. Live music on Friday night. We had the spicy kale app, trout, polenta, crème brule — everything was fine. The service was very kind, just slightly disorganized. A little more training would’ve bumped this up to five stars.

A gem! A true genteel, historical Norman Rockwell experience with over 150 years of history and an enduring national reputation for its fine dining and lovely Inn. I dined in the same rooms as FDR, JFK, Mae West, Charlie Chapin, Rudolph Valentino, Ogden Nash, Kurt Vonnegut, Andrew Carnegie, Cecil B. DeMille, Bill Clinton, Gloria Steinem, and many others! The Hotel has two restaurants — Delmonico Room and Bar Louis. I had dinner on the porch from Bar Louis and breakfast at Delmonico, which was also excellent; and I’ll review in their section. The Pan Seared Pennsylvania Trout and the Sushi Pizza, were both exquisite, and service was friendly and attentive. After dinner I took a short walk to the idyllic river. I will definitely be making the drive back! I especially recommend it for a romantic escape from city life.

Unfortunately, this review will merely focus on the service as we never got to experience the food at Bar Louis during our visit. We have lived in Milford for eight years, and have wanted to try this place for a while, so when searching for a place to have a lunch to celebrate my graduation, it seemed like the perfect choice. It was noon on a Monday when we arrived. There was a couple sitting at the bar and the bartender was socializing with them when we chose a place to sit. No other patrons were present in the dining room. We waited… and finally, after 5 or 10 minutes, the tender stopped socializing and came over to pour us our water and hand us our menus. Then she left so we could look over the menu. Another 5 – 10 minutes pass, and she hasn’t returned. Finally, someone that I assume was the manager came by to ask us if we’d been helped. We hadn’t. So he volunteered to take our order since it had«gotten busy» on the porch upstairs. We asked what the special was for the day, and he didn’t know(which surprised us), and he disappeared to find out. Another 5 minutes pass, and he hadn’t returned. By then, we’d had enough and the poor service was enough to get us to stand up and leave. When we left, there were two other parties on the porch. It didn’t seem as «busy» as was implied. A shame, as we were looking forward to experiencing this place after so many folks had good things to say about it.

With family in Northern New Jersey and Northeastern PA, Milford is a great place to «meet in the middle» which we often do when none of us has the time to do the full 2-hour ride to the other’s houses. Quaint and nestled in along the Delaware, the late 18th century echoes everywhere along its picturesque downtown. Boutiques, antique shops, restaurants and old architecture abound. Each one that a visitor enters is greeted by a genuinely friendly proprietor. The town is a great place to spend a sunny afternoon walking, shopping, and catching up with family. Tucked down in the basement of the gorgeous Hotel Fauchere sits a little gem: Bar Louis. Named after the original hotelier, Louis Fauchere, it is *not* to be confused with the Bar Louie chain of drinking establishments. I entered through the hotel’s front entrance. The large front porch welcomes and draws you into the crisp, clean lines of the hotel foyer. I wandered until I found a relatively unmarked staircase with an arrow sign directing me downstairs to the restrooms and Bar Louis. Once below, there are a few clearly marked doors, including one that says, simply, «Bar Louis». Upon entering I found myself along side the elegant bar from which are served serious cocktails — both classics and contemporaries — and watched over by a larger-than-life photograph of Andy Warhol planting a kiss on John Lennon’s right cheek. The dining room is ringed by large, comfortable booths each dominated with a large diptych of flowers and a close up of some part of a horse. Tables are comfortably arranged with room to spare and no one has to be a part of another table’s conversations. The décor communicates a sense of humor while also saying, «We’re serious about what we do, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously.» My sister and I met here for lunch while I was in from Chicago. Since it was our first visit since Christmas, we had a lot of catching up to do. We sat yakin’ for 3 ½ hours! All the while, our servers were attentive, friendly, and more than respectful of the fact that we were there to hang out and catch up. At no point were we rushed and neither were we ignored. We were well taken care of. For us, this is a mark of excellent service. True hospitality. Food highlights not to be missed: The French onion soup, the vegetable barley soup du jour, the tomato & prosciuto and chèvre flat breads, the grilled spicy kale, and the Solstice Margarita with jalapeño tequila, lime juice, and passion fruit juice. Delish. I’m looking forward to my next visit home and coming back with the fam.

We came here for dinner a week ago, and everything was excellent. My pepper steak was perfect and my wife’s risotto was good. The barman was friendly and attentive, but several items weren’t available. The appetizer was sushi pizza and was very good. We came back today for lunch, and what a different place, the bar staff wasn’t that friendly. We had mussels, which was okay but not very hot. The charcuterie plate was about $ 12 and was dismal, only a few slices of two different kinds of meat and no cheese, some minuscule gherkins a blob of full grain mustard which was out of place without any ham. What a disappointment for a place I love going to.

I used to live in Milford– before that I visited frequently — and now — I’m there super often to visit friends. Milford is a small town. filled with resturants that swell my heart with happiness. Bar Louis is where you come for a nicer, quiet, evening. They have excellent drinks. Yes, a little more pricey– but they are fresh and made well. And they are creative and special :) The food is delicious aswell. Try the sushi pizza– and get it every single time too!

Had a wonderful dinner at the bar itself. Oysters with PA sparkling wine, NY Strip and local Trout were all delicious and expertly prepared. Wonderful wine list with something for everyone. We had an 82 Mersault that although past its peak still had plenty to offer. Bob does a great job behind the bar. The local crowd were fun so we stayed for after dinner drinks and chatted. We got the name of a liquor store half an hour away that had Sassicaia! Made a good night even better

Stopped in for lunch not realizing they were only serving brunch on an early sunday afternoon and I guess I didn’t expect the décor in this area — a very chic, but comfortable space. We chose a booth which had nice large seats with a comfy pillow in the corner. I saw a few people enter and look around thinking they weren’t in the right place. I guess when you walk in it looks more upscale expensive and you wonder if you are ok just wearing jeans. After a few min the feeling fades. the place is more approachable and down to earth then it initially looks. The brunch menu looked great. too bad we werent in the mood for brunch items and more in the mood for lunch. They did not have the full menu of lunch items, but we were able to find some solid choices. My wife and I had the french onion soup — which, as the other reviews said, was delicious. The texture of the cheese was just perfect. My wife ordered the fried kale salad with egg on top and this was delicious with a serious kick to it. I went with the grilled eggplant sandwich — it was quite flavorful and the bread was a tasty baguette. We had good service, but the place was not overly busy with maybe 5 — 6 tables filled while we were there. We had no complaints and the wait staff was quite friendly. We looked at the dessert menu, but decided instead to go to the Patisserie next door which is great idea to grab some good stuff for the road! They did have some interesting choices though and if we weren’t on our way back to NY perhaps we would have ordered. In any case, we will be back when we are in the mood for brunch and would also like to hit this place for their lunch menu! I hopeful that when I get to know this place better I can up this review to 5 stars. all the elements are there — I hope they are consistent.

Really nice, chic location, surprising for the area. We had wonderful drinks and some of the best french onion soup we’ve ever had. The cheese platter with the chutney was also delicious. A little slow on the service side, but we didn’t mind, we were enjoying the afternoon. We’ll definitely be back!
