Wonderful place, everything was fresh and a solid fusion on tex mex and BBQ. The jalapeño poppers were fantastic and the quesadilla I got had a tortilla so thin and crispy it wasn’t too heavy so I could truly enjoy it without feeling weighed down. Will definitely return

This place really is a diamond in the rough. The whole entire area in this part of Milford is dead, a few deli’s and small spots but this isn’t just another spot. Their BBQ is fantastic, and their hospitality is second to none. I was visiting from NY and where I am, I haven’t gotten the BBQ like this. I shared a plate of a half a rack of ribs, mac and cheese, brisket, fries and a biscuit, and this left me in a food coma. The food was phenomenal and priced so well. The sitting looks old, but this isn’t the case. The place is designed to look like a side of the road shack but it was clean, neat, and very friendly environment. Once you step-inside you’ll feel like family. Try this place, you’ll be back.

I enjoyed Joey’s barbecue and tex-mex in Milford Connecticut very much however there was a little bit too much Cumin used for my taste. The portions size was exceptional the margaritas were wonderful, the service was very good and the prices were fair. I would recommend this place for a casual dining experience.

Never a disappointment!!! My girlfriend and I went for a Valentine’s comfortable/casual dinner yesterday afternoon. We started off with a couple of craft brews from their solid selection and an order of the Hole Mole Guac & Chips w/Spiced Shrimp as well as an order of the Joe Shida Spring Rolls. As always the spring rolls were spot on(great sauces/great flavor and amazing cole slaw). The spiced shrimp were a very nice addition to the Guac and both plates left the table wiped clean :) For dinner we both had the Beef Brisket platter. We had Country Collard Greens, Crazy Mac & Cheese, Eggy Potato Salad and World’s Best Scalloped Potatoes as sides. Each component to the meal was spot on including the cornbread. We both took home ample amounts of leftovers which will surely be enjoyed today. I have been to this establishment numerous times and have never been disappointed. The food and beverage selections are always consistently on point. I would recommend Joey C’s for Lunch/Dinner with a significant other or close friends as a fun casual place with great atmosphere!!!

Traveling to New Haven and saw great reviews for this place so decided to try it. Cozy restaurant, great service and the food was outstanding. My wife had a burger which looked awesome .she said it was one of the best burgers she’s had. I had the Ribs… WOW Will stop here again when in CT.

Just went last night 2÷12÷16 for my last time. Wanted to seat us in tiny table against the wall and in a corner told them we would rather sit at a high top in the bar area. Nobody was in there. Blonde waitress/bartender mumbled something under her breath. Got a bad vibe the whole time we were there. Us and another couple closed the place we left before 10pm the place was dead. To bad we use to enjoy going here. Update 2÷22÷16 Received a email from joey c today apologizing for the waitress/bartender. Offered me a $ 40.00 gift card. After really thinking about it in all honesty I think the food is good and I like the atmosphere. I have been eating at this restaurant sence it opened up it what looked like a house in Devon. I will absolutely be comming back but I will decline the gift card.

One of the best Barbecue’s i have been to here in CT, Owner and staff are excellent, polite and helpful, and the food is out of this world. Mac & cheese, & scalloped potatoes are the best!

love this place! the meat chili is out of this world. I love pairing this with the Brussels sprouts. and oh those margaritas! Had party for my boyfriend here and it was the most amazing night all the staff were fantastic and we were able to bring in our own band and choose as many countries as we wanted off the menu. It was cash bar cash dinner and they managed it amazingly! We were there till closing. I can give them 6 stars!

We’ve been here before and returned. So disappointed!!! First let me say the waitress was lovely. Only good thing I can say. Took forever for our nachos to come out – apparently they made a mistake and topped them with chicken rather than the pork we ordered. Chips were soggy, nachos meh. Our dinners came out as we were eating the nachos. My daughter ordered the roadhouse burger cooked«medium». Inside of burger was mostly pink – she was unable to eat it. I had the Baja fish tacos, which they claim are a specialty. Two corn tacos each with a teensy piece of fish, which was difficult to find because they were absolutely slathered in salsa, guacamole and slaw, none of which tasted homemade to me. Seriously had a hard time finding the fish, but after quite a search it was the only thing I ate. Husband had a bbq sandwich – mediocre. Will not be returning.

Legit spot. Service was really great and everything we ordered we loved. Guacamole and chips were perfect. Fajitas were so flavorful too. Brisket sandwich was super tender. House made churros also bomb! I just wish they served them with la lechera or caramel instead of just chocolate. Awesome experience – kinda felt like I was in good old BK.

Homemade BBQ sauce! Tex Mex &BBQ all in one stop. Wishing this was in my neighborhood! Swing by for a late lunch & we’re seated & attended to promptly. The décor is western with a flair of Mexico cute picnic tables or regular tables. The bar area is separated off. The staff friendly & quick. A paper towel roll hangs from the edge of the table implying this could get messy all in a good way! We ordered ribs & pulled pork keeping it simple. Strap on the feeding bag people the dinners are hearty 2 sides & the meat is no simple task let’s not forget about the Soft sweet cornbread that left us wanting more. The ribs were falling off the bone scrumptious. The pulled pork was a huge portion it was good but felt it was a little too soupy. Baked beans were outstanding all homemade & not to sweet. Seasoned french fries were OK. I wanted to try the pulled pork nachos but definitely the next time.

They say everything is bigger in Texas. And while this is in humble old Connecticut, that saying certainly makes a difference. Joey C’s is a superb, spunky, and distinctly unique watering hole with a vault of delicious eats. If you want barbecue, there is a great collection of their«Kick A** barbecue, pardon my French», featuring delicious ribs, succulent pork, and tender brisket. Palette more suited to our Spanish friends? There is a massive list of tacos, burritos, and nachos sure to please anyone. And don’t forget to finish with a sweet dessert. Overall, I was pleased with my experience and hope to come back soon!

My boyfriend and I have visited Joey C’s multiple times. The first time the owner, Joey C, stopped by our table to ask about our experience and we loved it. The waiter, a older gentleman wearing a vest, was so kind and humorous! He was great! He mentioned that he would be switching with a waitress as it was his time to go home. That’s where it went down hill… the guy checked in on us before he left, but the girl literally ignored us… we had to wave to get her to even fill our drinks. Then we didn’t see her again until we had to pay. I really wish we could’ve tipped our first server, he was superb and I wanted to give the girl nothing since she provided no service at all!!! We loved the food and figured it was an off day for her, or maybe she was new so we went back 2 – 3 more times just for the calamari(highly recommended) however the waitresses were just awful. As much as we LOVED the food we HATED the service, literally the most dreadful waitresses I’ve ever seen«take care» of people. The additional times we went they forgot they sat us, took our orders then 20 minutes later came back to take them again because they said they never went through, didn’t check in with us until we had to pay them and when we got the check it took them forever to come back to take our money even though we wanted to get out! I even tried to do takeout for just the food since that’s the only thing that’s good there(other than vest guy) and even then, once my order was brought home it was wrong. It’s disappointing that their food is so great but the service has deferred me from ever going back.

Delicous pulled pork sandwiches! They also had Sip O Sunshine on tap. I ordered chips and guacamole to start with. The chips are thicker than the usual cantina chips. I ordered the Cali — quesadilla for my entre which has smoked turkey, bacon, cheese and comes with sour cream and guacamole. My fiancé ordered the roadhouse fries which comes with a yummy cilantro mayo dipping sauce. We both approved of the red sprinkled dry rub that coats the natural cut fries. The salsa is expertly prepared and features plentiful dice tomatoes and cliantro. The only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars is the bathrooms; 2 Unisex bathrooms, kinda messy and there was a piece of cardboard in the doorknob as a macguivered solution. Also they should consider getting a biodegradable set of plastic paperware for their guacamole, hot sauce, sour cream etc … I don’t like contributing to plastic garbage waste. I would definitely go there again when I am in the mood for some margaritas and delicous Tex-mex.

It was OK, nothing special. The service was a bit slow despite the place only having two or three tables to deal with at the time. The BBQ was OK, the cornbread was very good, the collard greens were kind of watery. I’ve had better fish tacos elsewhere. These were bland and covered in a vinegary coleslaw. The burrito was the size of a human head and covered with cheese, so hard to go wrong there. It was tasty, but anything is tasty when it’s covered in cheese. The rice and beans were boring and bland. All in all, I’m having difficulty writing this review because there’s just nothing to say. The food was mediocre and forgettable, and I probably won’t bother coming back when there are so many excellent Mexican places in the area, not to mention the taco trucks at Long Wharf which are the real deal. I give 3 stars because the meal was serviceable, so if you like boring TexMex, check it out. Otherwise go to Puerta Vallerta, or better yet, Taqueria in West Haven.

Seems like a nice joint to have a happy hour drink, but don’t let the name fool you — This is not real BBQ or Tex-Mex. Visited my mom from Texas and this most certainly was not the real thing. We ordered the enchiladas and burrito — food was ok, but the sauces were more on the Italian side than Tex-Mex(which I guess is to be expected since the menu says the owner is Italian). I will say that the salsa, which was more pico de gallo, was excellent, but chips were obviously store bought. The thing that really struck me was the rice was clearly Zatarain’s brand, having made it at home myself — that flavor is distinctive. Service was good and friendly, but there were two guys that looked to be managers/owners(?) standing near the bar and register the whole time watching. Given that the space was very small and not a lot of room, it was kind of creepy and felt like we were being watched. As soon as I put my credit card down, one of them was at our table asking if we were ready to pay. Waitress was doing a fine job, and it’s not a pleasant dining experience to feel like you are being watched. Overall, ok experience — food was so-so, service was good. Doubt I would visit again when in town or recommend except to get a drink and chips/salsa maybe.

I had a great time at Joey C’s! My group’s waitress couldn’t have been more down to earth and friendly. I ordered a strawberry margarita, it was great! They put all fresh ingredients in the food as well as the drinks. For my entrée, I choose the St. Louis half rack of ribs with a non spicy sauce. The meat fell off the bone, it was really good, but next time I would probably go with the baby back because it’s more tough and that’s what I think I would prefer. The St. Louis rack was a bit fatty. I chose the crazy Mac and cheese and roadhouse fries as sides. The Mac and cheese was killer! Sooooo good! The road house fries were fantastic as well, it came with a spiced dipping sauce that complimented the seasoning on the fries. Also the corn bread was good!
Joey C, himself came over to make sure we enjoyed our food! I had a great experience and I definitely want to go again. The fact that this place has both barbecue & mexican food makes it unique and worth checking it out! Delicious!

I found this restaurant while looking for a place to dine with the husband. From the moment we walked in the restaurant we were overwhelmed by the Texas feel environment, from the décor and the Texas Mexican inspired theme inside to the super friendly staff. The Meals were delicious and like Texas’s motto«everything is bigger in Texas«this place is a must if your every looking for a low key intimate location to dine . The total of our meal came out to about $ 55 with drinks included. We will be coming back often next time I will bring my son!!!

Simply amazing. A hidden gem accompanied by a wonderful atmosphere with superb service. My grandmother wanted ribs from Chilis, instead I searched ribs in Milford and came across Joey C’s. The change took some convincing, but we walked into a western wonderland, that chose healthy additives to their meals. An excellent beer list(yuengling my CT friends) and a baked burrito I could only eat 1⁄16 of. OH, and gram raved over the baby back ribs. Ive never seen a 90 pound 70 yr old woman eat a full rack of ribs. It was also a tuesday afternoon, and had over 25 people in the restaurant. Mandatory to mention– the owner came out from the back and was friendly as can be. I highly recommend Joey C’s for a delicious mexican meal.
