Mill Creek Resort

Stayed one night in late October with a friend in cabin 9. Located not too far south from Lassen NP’s southwest entrance, it met our needs at a reasonable price.
Our cabin was small, but for two people it was enough room. We had a full size bed and a pull out futon in a connected room off the kitchen (no door separating the two). Bathroom is small and tight; someone with a large frame might feel like they’re squeezing in, but we were fine.
Kitchen is pretty well equipped for basic cooking: pots and pans, colanders, cooking utensils, eating utensils, plastic measuring cups, plates, bowls, mugs, drinking glasses, a dish rack, but no cutting board. Stove is gas and there’s a good size refrigerator/​freezer.
If we had brought a lighter, it would’ve been great to light a small camp fire outside the cabin. There’s also a charcoal BBQ and seating outside each cabin.
Staff are friendly and accommodating. We grabbed some beer on tap before heading to the park and chatting in the office/​diner/​grocery store all in one which has a number of tables and a wood stove to keep you warm. Might’ve tried some food if we weren’t on our way out to hike. Recommend staying here if you’re looking for an affordable cabin in the area.

Can’t say enough about this wonderful, quaint little place. The food was amazing and the service was excellent. Will will be back SOON!

The STAY and the FOOD
First all, kudos to Georgene the owner and the staffs Deanne & Mark for making us feel at home and for them being very approachable.
The now accept credit card with their iPod Touch and Square.
CABIN
We got a small cabin. It’s pretty quite and quaint and clean. We slept well after a day’s hike. I’m glad to have a cabin to concentrate my energy on exploring than pitching a tent. The price is very reasonable too.
FOOD
Good portion. We kept returning everyday for the cobbler.

We stayed here for two nights while visiting Lassen Volcanic National Park based on the good reviews on
. We are so glad we did and had a very enjoyable stay. It was very quiet and peaceful — off the beaten track. We stayed at cabin #6 which was a large one bedroom with a sitting area and kitchen. The cabin was adequate and rustic — clean and well equipped. Nice kitchen with full sized fridge, gas stove, coffee maker and table/​chairs. Smallish shower with plenty of hot water. Small outside patio with couple of plastic chairs. Full bed that can be «cozy» for two.
Welcoming hosts, nice bar and restaurant with a very nice patio with 6 tables. We had dinner one night and drinks the second night, both on the patio. Lovely spot and we enjoyed watching all the humming birds at the many feeders. Food was very good and home made — I had BBQ beef sandwich with fries and spouse had a salad. Plus ICKY IPA. Very pleasant and enjoyable on the patio.
Cooled off at night so no need for air conditioning. Liked the peace and quiet; easy access to Lassen National Park; very friendly; good food; nice cabin and reasonably priced. No TV and no WiFi.
Worth a visit and good for visiting Lassen. Love to go back.

Was fortunate to get a one night cabin reservation for my birthday night arrival (⁸⁄₁₇) only about a month in advance. Was told someone had just cancelled. Score! as the reviews didn’t give off as good a feeling about the other area «resorts.»
Ate at their restaurant after unpacking in the cabin nearest the store (150 feet?). Very convenient to say the least as we were road weary and famished.
After the rejuvenating lunch, we headed into Lassen NP, despite it already being about 5pm in the afternoon. The park is literally down the street and around the corner. 20 minute drive or so and you’re in the SW entrance of the park.
Again, very convenient location for MCR.
The cabin we stayed in was a 2 bedroom (2 Queens I think) w/​a kitchenette. They had a Weber BBQ on my site, a picnic table AND a portable fire pit (the on-​site store sells firewood and cold beverages :)). We used all of their amenities to later sit down to my birthday dinner of bbq rib-​eye steak, bbq corn and potato salad w/​store bought german chocolate cake in the cabin and then closed out with a camp fire out front.
Yeah, that doesn’t suck.
Nor did the deer that frequent the property. My wife and kid enjoyed seeing them.
The location, the amenities and the services provided with a smile at MILL CREEK RESORT (Lassen County, CA) is what we found out firsthand keeps people coming back.

Mill Creek Resort is a rustic getaway in the little hamlet of Mill Creek just outside Lassen National Park.
Don’t expect five-​star amenities or anything close. The cabins are rustic, with tiny bathrooms, no air conditioning, dusty floors and old furnishings. DO expect plenty of places to hike, swim, fish, play horseshoes, or take an afternoon nap on a hammock, as well as a friendly and approachable staff that will remember your name and give you personalized service. The prices are reasonable and, all considering, the accommodations are far superior to other local options like Childs Meadow Resort.
Tip: If you’re coming in the summertime, reserve a room far in advance as they sell out quickly.

Everything was wonderful except that the cabins have no insulation — we had to crank the heater AND the oven to even get to sleep at night. Too bad because being warm is one of the most important things when you are in the middle of no where in the snow!

Really nice place in the mtns, beautiful area, great staff!

Really Good Burgers!
We’ve never stayed here because we have a cabin in the area… but we go here at least once a summer for burgers and to chill on their patio which overlooks a beautiful green meadow.
There are other things on the menu like salads, sandwiches, hot dogs and wraps.
Also, their onion rings are big and crunchy too. Just the way I like them.
I’ve heard their milk shakes are really good too but I haven’t had one.
This is a great place in the woods to relax, have a meal and enjoy the scenery. :)

I’m a great fan of the Mill Creek Resort! This rustic resort in the beautiful little community of Mill Creek, California is a find for people who drink real coffee and want to enjoy the quiet beauty of the big pines. Is it Starbucks? No. I read a review on one site where some yuppie from the city was wanking because they didn’t serve skinny mocha lattes with whipped cream and sprinkles. Ask what they have and the answer is «decaf or regular» — hey, works for me! And, yes, it IS rustic — the cabins were probably built in the 1930s, but they’re clean and quiet and comfortable. Here’s a place where your kids will be playing ball in the meadow, or hiking down to the creek — where you can spend some quality time with the little monsters — I mean darlings! OOPS. Anyway, it’s a great place for a quiet getaway, and the setting is unbelievably beautiful. The ONLY place to stay if you’re visiting nearby Lassen Park.
P. S. Reading a past post from last year, I happen to know that the beds now DO have memory foam pads on them, so comfort is up a notch!
P. S.S. I’ve visited in the winter when the snow was so deep they had to cut a walkway into the store and since there was also no power, the intrepid crew was cooking on a propane griddle! It limited the menu, but we were grateful they were still cookin’! Can I use the restroom? Sure! Here’s a flashlight — be careful! These people never quit!

We stayed at Mill Creek Resort a few years ago and absolutely loved every minute of our stay. The location is perfect, close to Lassen, off the beaten path and the owners are very nice people.
The cabins are rustic and basic, but very clean. The one downside to our stay is that they need to get better mattresses (if you brought your own foam memory pad you would be fine).
Our cabin had a fire pit (and wood provided by resort), a barbecue (with the needed coals/​lighter fluid), had everything we needed in the kitchen and basically was a great place to stay while we traveled and hiked around Northern CA.
Again, this is a rustic type of setting, however if you are looking for a relaxing place to stay (especially with kids), this is a wonderful place to stay for a vacation.

When you look up «quaint» in the dictionary, a picture of Mill Creek Resort should be there!
My wife and I have spent many wonderful short vacations in cabins here during the winter. The winters are quiet and essentially snowed-​in, which was perfect for lots of reading and cross-​country skiing in nearby Lassen National Park. We also simply sat for hours, enjoying hot drinks while we watched the snow pile up.
The cabins are small and rustic, but they are clean and oh so cozy. We’ve eaten breakfast in the café on numerous occasions, and they serve good basic food. (We’ve not tried lunch or dinner.)
As other reviewers have mentioned, the family that runs the place is very friendly.
The general location is roughly between Red Bluff and Chester, California. If you need a supermarket or other «big town» ammenities, you can find these in Chester. Lassen National Park is only about 10 – 15 miles away.

Stayed here for a long weekend as our base camp to explore Lassen National Park, conveniently about 20 minutes from the southeast Park entrance. The family who runs the resort is super friendly. They have cabins, campsites and RV spaces. The cabins are no frills, but are cozy, quiet and affordable. Their store is the only one in town, so you’ve got not only the market for any necessities, but a full restaurant and bar (with beer on tap) as well. The only warning is to bring your cash, they don’t take credit cards.
