Driving around today just checking out the sights and decided to stop in and walk around the Tryon Equestrian Center. There’s not much going on and was just a tad surprised that any of the restaurants were open on a Sunday morning in early February, but am I glad they were. Its a really cool 50’s style Diner but without the counter stools. Plenty of booths and lots of outdoor tables. The waitress was immediately at the table getting our drink orders. The menu had breakfast and lunch choices so I’m assuming breakfast is served all day. I ordered the burger with cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onion and chipolte mayo. The meat was fresh, hand patty that was cooked juuussstt a hair overdone(asked for med. rare) but the flavor was just outstanding. The raw red onion was plentiful and really added to the taste of the burger. My Mom ordered the patty melt with Swiss(it comes with provolone) and sauté onions on grilled rye. One of the best patty melts I’ve ever seen, nice thick hamburger patty. Wife ordered the wings, nice buffalo flavor but maybe just a bit on the small side. The sandwiches do not come with any sides so we ordered the basket of half onion rings/French fries for $ 5.50. Maybe a little high for the amount, rings had nice batter but fries were just average. I am imagining this place is just swamped when there’s an event, but well worth the wait if the food stays as good. I didn’t take photos because my phone wouldn’t cooperate but I will be back. BTW, this whole Equestrian Center is just awesome with a variety of restaurants, shops but that’s for another review when the new season starts.

Went back today with friends. Service was not very good. Drinks were empty often for long periods of time, out of baked chicken, fried chicken, and kids spaghetti. Server was pleasant but didn’t seem concerned enough to make sure drinks stayed full even though we went around 2:30 when they were not busy. Previous visits we had not been charged to get French fries with sandwiches but today we were. We ordered ice cream sundaes for desert. At first I was not even sure the toppings we requested were there. Had to squint to see hot fudge. I don’t feel my burger and small serving of sweet potato fries was worth $ 10.50. Was it good? Yes. Did I eat it all? Yes. Previously we enjoyed the diner because it was close to home, tasty, big servings, affordable. Now it’s just another overpriced tourist trap restaurant.

We stopped in for lunch at 12:20, we had been here 3 times before, they were busy today but we had every server in the place walk by us at least once, they never acknowledged we were there. Service was slow when we were there before but never like this, by the looks we received when we arrived I could tell they didn’t want to wait on us due to the fact I have 3 small children. We will have think long and hard before giving them another try, my wife and I worked in the restaurant business for many years and I still do, so to me this was completely unacceptable.

First, I want to say that the breakfasts were very good. Food is not a complaint, but the service was awful. We went there this past Sunday. The place was not busy, but we sat and waited well over 5 minutes before anyone approached us. The wait staff were bustling around doing their side jobs, and ignoring us. As I said, the food was good. I had the healthy start breakfast, with a few substitutions, and my husband had the french toast. It was all good. My coffee was not refilled until we were about to leave. Also, there is a sign on the door saying ‘service dogs only’ and yet a man came in with his dog. At first he held onto it, but then put it down. There is a nice outdoor seating area, but the man and dog were not guided to it. A large group came in while we were there and it was almost comical how long they had to wait. On our way out, my husband said, ‘Don’t take it personally. We had terrible service, too”.

First off my wife wanted to give it 2 stars so this review would be in the middle 2 ½. Ordered onion ring appetizer. Looked and tasted like straight from frozen food section at the grocery store. The ranch dressing it came with was straight from a bottle. I had a chicken fried steak dinner and the steak itself was good. The Mac n cheese is came with was pasta swimming in cheese soup. The baked beans seemed they slid a can over the stove then opened it and put it in a bowl and it was barely above room temperature. They do serve breakfast all day which I would try if I go back. The ice cream deserts we seen looked good but we didn’t try.
