Beautiful and tranquil. Our only regret is that we stayed just one night. Special mention goes to Luis for making our trip so great. He’s great and made an amazing Bloody Mary. Can’t miss place. We’ll be back for sure.

This place has an amazingly friendly staff. The ambience is delightful. We recently spent a couple of nights here. All rooms are down a flight of stairs or two. The views of the bay are good of the mountain not so much. Everything is clean, but much of the furnishings are looking their age. Carpet noticeably worn on the stairs and if sitting in the eating area with upholstered benches near the bar that fabric is seriously frayed.
My issue were little things we were there starting a Sunday night. The special was Piella. I ended up with the last order available. The calamari was over cooked and the flavor was very bland. The next night we ordered a bottle of wine with our meal. There was no presentation of the bottle to us it arrived open and we were handed a cork. This maybe because the staff does multiple duty, both wait and b&b, but a little training would go a long way. The breakfasts are okay, but the omelettes can be greasy and the cheese is just processed Swiss or cheddar. I don’t get cheese with my food, but they forgot my partners and this pathetic square was slapped on top when it was brought to their attention.
For me this place has potential, but they miss the mark on a lot of little things, especially for the prices they charge.

Stayed just one night. Love this place. Amazing views. Relaxed vibe. Great food. Great wine/​beer. No issues with service, although it seemed like the people who have a stick up their a$$ do. Everyone calm down! Look outside. Be happy. Its beautiful.

Check in was a breeze and the staff was very friendly! I love how small this place is. Completely secluded get away retreat. I absolutely loved the room and the fireplace! though the logs were a bit wet from the rain so we had to stay on top of it.
Our breakfast and dinner was amazing! I highly recommend the pre-​fix menu and wine pairing. It’s reasonably priced and the atmosphere was very romantic.
Unfortunately, they were understaffed that weekend. Our wine paring was slow to come with each course and we had to ask for it but we didn’t mind since we were enjoying our leisurely dinner.

Stopped in this past weekend. Wonderful views but the service was terrible. I asked to speak to a manager but told they were busy.
Come for the views — leave because of the service.

I’m really sad to post this review. This place has decent food and a beautiful view however I’m so disappointed in their customer service that I’m afraid I won’t be returning.
My husband and I considered this place for our wedding back in 2012 and set an appointment to meet with someone early on a Saturday. When we arrived no one knew we were coming and the person we were supposed to meet with wasn’t even in. We left disappointed but ultimately knew the venue was too small for our group. As an apology the former manager Sarah mailed us a $ 20 gift certificate to use at their restaurant. It’s now 2016 and we finally decided to cash it in since we had it with us and we’re in the neighborhood. We knew the gift certificate was expired as it expired on 4÷4÷2013. We were under the assumption that all gift certificates in California could no longer expire. When we arrived at the Inn the host took the gift certificate and went to check with her manager. They returned and said no we couldn’t use it. We asked if there was anything we could do as we were given this as an apology and wanted to enjoy the place. We asked to speak to the manager but were denied that conversation so we decided to leave.
Unfortunate we won’t be back.

We went for a birthday weekend and stayed in Room #3. On the plus side, the views are spectacular, our room had a very private balcony (with view) and the food is great. On the minus side, these folks won’t answer the phone (web or nothing) and won’t respond to messages. Also a minus is that our room is right under the dining area and is pretty much uninhabitable during the early evening due to the noise. After 8pm though, it gets quiet and is very pleasant.
Many hiking trails (Mt. Tamalpais) depart from 100 feet away, and other destinations (Pt. Reyes, Stinson beach) are within driving range for day trips.

A true escape from madness… if only for a short while.
We spent the day hiking in Muir Woods, enjoying the views, the redwoods, and getting in touch with nature. After hours of hiking, we all were feeling hungry, and thirsty (wink wink). We had initially planned on heading to Tiburon or Sausalito, but looked on the handy dandy Unilocal app, and saw we were less than a mile from the Mountain Home Inn. After much debate, we all agreed and headed over. It is a beautiful facility, with a beautiful view, in a beautiful location. Even with the evening winter chill, as the sun was setting, and the reflection glaring off of the bay view, we had no choice but to sit outside. We were seating promptly, and ordered a bottle of wine and a cheese platter (everything is priced so reasonably). After enjoying the view, wine, and company, we each ordered different dinners, from the burger to fish po boy, and the chicken sandwich. Everything was fresh and very good. We truly enjoyed this visit, and will definitely return.
My only observation is that it does get a bit chilly, and we grabbed blankets and wrapped up. It would have been stellar if there were some type of heat. Note, this didn’t stop us from enjoying outside.

The food is good. We ordered some calamari, tuna sandwich, turkey sandwich, garlic fries, soup of the day (tomato soup) and mojito and Mt tam ale which is a local brewery in Marin.
Overall very happy definitely coming back.
I wish it was warm enough for us to sit outside so we could have enjoyed the view.

A few friends and I went to Mountain Home Inn because it was recommended to us while we were visiting Sausalito. The view was absolutely amazing, and it’s a great place for a bite to eat or drink, even though the drinks aren’t that great.
((Just a note, I’m only reviewing the location in the bar, I did not stay here.))
The drive up to Mountain Home Inn is just as special as when you get there. Expansive views over the San Francisco Bay or the Pacific ocean. Very windy and a lovely drive.
The check-​in and the restaurant are at the same place. The servers double as hotel desk clerks, which is kind of random.
We ordered Moscow mules and soaked up the view. The Moscow mules actually were really Moscow mules at all and didn’t have ginger beer, but really who cares? We’re there for a drink and sat there as long as we wanted to and looked out over San Francisco. That’s enough for me. The service was fine but slow, but sitting outside waiting for the waitress is not the worst thing in the world.

As my girlfriend and I were on our way to a hike to My Tamilpais, we found ourselves with a little extra time while waiting for our friends. We decided to stop at the Mountain in and possibly relax for a little bit and also use it as a desitation location so they could find us.
The place seemed very calm and relaxing. Almost as if it were a get a way vacation home hidden in the woods. I only got a view of the restaurant area, but apparently they and rooms for rent as well. Great for a romantic get a way.
We stopped by and sat a table and a waiter asked if we wanted anything to eat, and we told him we were just waiting for our friends and asked him if it was ok if we stayed for a little bi. He nodded, and brought us some water.
Over all, it was a great start to a great day. I only can’t give this place 5 stars because I didn’t officially stay here, but we see in time

Great spot! I feel extremely lucky that I accidentally got stranded here when my car broke down. I’ve passed it a thousand times and never stopped. As mentioned in every review, the vistas are exceedingly beautiful in any direction that you care to look. Two thousand thank yous to Daniel and Shirley who were so sweet and accomodating! I was impressed by the way the restaurant was run with total ease, even by only 2 people. They were friendly, attentive, and constantly on the move checking in with people, straightening up, and running food. I have a (too) long and extensive background in customer service, so I really appreciated their dedicated attention to detail.
I decided, in light of my predicament, that I deserved to eat like a queen and the kitchen totally came through for me! I enjoyed the baby spinach salad, the crab cakes, and the ceviche which was SO CLUTCH. It was a little different than the classic Mexican ceviche I am used to, but totally delicious. My favorite part was the plantain chips– all thin and perfectly lovely. ALSO, GREAT BEER ON TAP.
Everything culminated in a wonderful experience, for which I was entirely grateful.
I will definitely be stopping here again! (by choice :)

This is now going to be my quick get-​away. Loved it. It was very quiet, the view is fantastic, the jacuzzi tub and fireplace are bonuses:) very relaxing place.

This review is long overdue! I stayed at Mountain Home Inn about 5 months ago for a surprise proposal for my sister. The guys here were super accommodating and helped us execute the surprise without a hitch (well…there were a few fires but that had nothing to do with the place!). The rooms have spectacular views and you absolutely have to get up early to watch the sunrise, it’s a real treat.
Food was great as well. I didn’t have any problems with the breakfast, lunch and dinner I had and the staff was very attentive. If you want to do a hike, ask and you shall receive! I felt bad for the million questions I had but the guys here were happy to help and even provide maps. Seriously a great place for a weekend getaway.

Review is for both staying here overnight and the restaurant.
I’ll start with the good. Food is fabulous which is nice because a lot of «view restaurants» have mediocre food. We both had excellent dinners. The staff seemed really friendly for the most part. Being able to check in here after a 6 mile hike and slip into a jacuzzi was wonderful. The bed was extremely comfortable. They have Aveda products.
The bad was bad. The food prevented this from being a 2 star review; largely in part due to the price and what you get for it.
I walked into my room with confusion because it was in a very dark corner due to a lightbulb being out. Whoa. Room is pretty dusty and crusty with cobwebs and such and smashed bugs but I’m still cool at this point I really am. Even after seeing the friendly reminder note about tipping the housekeeping staff lol.
There is no effing coffeemaker in this room. If you had leftovers or food of your own too bad because there is no fridge either but that coffeemaker man. it really got me. This is a $ 300+ room ffsk.
Ok, I think; there is that common area I saw with chairs and a fireplace I saw. Surely there will be some sort of refreshments? A hot water thing and some teabags? Coffee?
NOPE. A BOOKCASE WITH SOME OLD DUSTY ASS BOOKS.
Really? For $ 300 rooms you can’t put out some hot water, tea and doily? Really?
In addition there was an open door to the staff office I think it was? It looked like a storage room/​electronics room/​I don’t know. Since the door was open right in the living room area of course I could see inside and was greeted by a girl at a desk scowling at me.
Yes the rooms could use updating and better cleaning but I wasn’t even tripping on that. For the price can you like. provide more?
Obviously no turn down service. Also of course there aren’t any snacks available or vending machines.
Put coffeemakers in the rooms! They do this at Best Westerns its not difficult. Some extra pampering and nice touches go a long way after a day of hiking.

Mixed feelings. I will agree with some other reviews the best part of this place is the location. It is 20 feet from multiple trails that lead into Muir Woods! Just beautiful! The hotel has some charm, they have a wood fireplace in the restaurant and full redwood trees as you enter. The arrangement of the rooms is very odd. My wife and I went down the stairs to find our room, and all of the rooms that are vacant have there doors open and lights off. It was a little scary but we had a few laughs. Our room was #6 all the way at the end of level 1, it was very dark and the hallways are oddly outdated. We entered the room and it was very cute, the wood fireplace was VERY Nice! And it had a great view of some redwoods in the valley. It could have used some new paint and the carpet had some stains. There is a small window that opens up into the jacuzzi bathtub which was cute at first but for the gentlemen out there that wanted to use the bathroom around your significant other… Good luck… unless you want them
To hear every detail of your experience. The bed was large and somewhat comfortable. My favorite part was the breakfast, we came up stairs and they had the coffee out. We decided to sit outside because of the beautiful weather. I ordered the French toast and my wife had the oatmeal. The French toast was arguably the best French toast I’ve had! It was a wonderful breakfast and we came to find out that it was complimentary :)
The restaurant (for dinner): I would also give it 3 stars. I had the 3 course meal: wedge salad (very good), balsamic reduction NY steak (just ok), and the hot lava cake dessert (delicious). The steak was good but not great. My wife had the burger with garlic fries and it was pretty good.

If you’re looking to get married or pop the question, you’d be hard-​pressed to find a more romantic setting than the Mountain Home Inn.
Located atop of Mount Tamalpais (with breathtaking views of the entire Bay Area), this Inn/​Restaurant is a Marin County institution. I came here recently for a buddy’s wedding and was pleasantly surprised by how well organized the affair was. It’s certainly not the fanciest place in the world. In fact, the chalet-​style building is a bit dated. But what the Mountain Home Inn lacks in style, it more than makes up for with charm and scenery.
Upon our arrival at the wedding reception, we were greeted with bubbly and beer in their clubhouse bar. The kitchen soon came out with a tasty variety of passed apps (everything from bruschetta with balsamic vinegar to chicken kababs). Everything was delicious. In fact, I ate so many of the appetizers that I barely had room for dinner.
Speaking of dinner, the Mountain Home Inn arranged all the tables on their outdoor patio. While it did get a bit crowded, the scenic views and warm temperature could not be beat. And I must confess — this was the best food I’ve had a wedding in ages (and I’ve been to 6 weddings in 8 weeks, so that’s saying something!). Guests were given a choice of salmon or steak. I chose the salmon (which was lovely and light). But the others at my table had the steak, and it was a generous cut of beef, and everyone seemed to love their meal. For dessert, we were treated to an assortment of cupcakes and a «trail mix» of sweets, including M & Ms, Marshmallows, chocolates, etc.
The only downside to the outdoor setting is that it isn’t exactly conducive to wedding toasts (since the patio wraps around the building). So only some folks are going to hear the awkward, long-​winded speeches. For what it’s worth, I was on the side of the patio that couldn’t hear anything (but that’s perfectly fine by me).
All in all, I would highly recommend the Mountain Home Inn for an intimate (50 people or less) event.

Mountain Home Inn is a little roadside treat. A very cozy mountain side inn with an extraordinary view of the bay area from a bird’s eye view. Specifically a hawk’s eye view. On a clear day, don’t be surprised if you see some gliding hawks soaring over you during your meal. Extraordinary. Not only do you get in touch with nature, the moment you walk into Mountain Home Inn, you feel a warm cozy feeling of a welcoming and romantic getaway.
The seats where I ate lunch were surrounded by comfortable pillows and all I wanted to do was kick my feet up and stay longer than just for lunch. The food along with the pillows were for comfort. A nice hearty sandwich. What really made Mountain Home Inn stand out to me was the beautiful view, and cozy feeling of the inn.
Bottom line: Beautiful birds eye view of the bay area.
