Did you know there’s an outdoor theater on Mt. Tamalpais? If you’re from Marin you are probably familiar with Mountain Play, a non-profit organization that puts on an annual production at the Mountain Theater in May and June. I have not had the chance to see one of their shows, but I heard great things about Peter Pan this year. Feel free to check out the Unilocal listing for Mountain Play here: Hiking to the theater has been on my to-do list for a while now. Yesterday I finally did it with a few of my friends and we were all very impressed. It’s a nice place to stop for lunch if you’re on a long hike, just hang out, or even meditate. It reminded my friend and I of the theaters at our childhood summer camps. Our group spent a good amount of time just sitting on the stones and talking. It’s a really nice escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. There’s a nice 5 mile loop you can take starting at the Pantoll Rangers Station that passes through the theater. It technically begins at the Rangers Station, but you could also start it at the West Point Inn, or even the Mountain Theater. If you do the loop let me know what you think! I hope to catch a Mountain Play performance at the theater next year, but until then I’ll definitely stop here from time to time when I’m hiking on Mt. Tam. I have to say, I really wish they had concerts at the Mountain Theater. It would be pretty amazing to see live music on top of Mt. Tam. Maybe someday!
