Millbrae Library

I love discovering new libraries and this one is in a great location with plenty of parking. However, I wish they spent some money building a sound proof glass wall in front of the children’s area! They’re cute but very loud. Impossible to concentrate. I’d recommend only coming here when the kids are in school.

From my brief look in the library visit this is a nice library. I’ve been here for a few times for a camera club meeting.
I though the meeting room, where the meetings are held, is comfortable and having a separate exit the meeting did not have to end when the library closed.

The location of this library is great. There’s parking in the front and back, so you’re always guaranteed a parking spot.
The selection of different books is also great.
So why the 3 stars and not 5?
The staff. They see people waiting in line for help glance at you and continue to have their conversation. YOUR AT WORK SO DO SOME WORK. No one cares about that CHICK that moved away. Granted that was only 2 of their staff until an older lady showed up and helped me out.
As long as you can navigate through the library and use the computer to find your book. As long as you know where to go, this place is for you. However, if your unlucky like me, & need to get that ONE book that says where it’s supposed to be, and isn’t because it ended up in the going back pile, then your sh*t outta luck.

Conveniently located near downtown, very clean, new & plenty of parking
Amenities:
No residency restrictions. As long as u r a State if California resident, u can get a library card here. U can also apply for a guest pass for the day. Good amount of toddler & youth activities — check out their monthly calendar. Lots of computers — make a reservation on-​line if using from 3−6pm (high traffic time), otherwise u will b fine dropping-​in. They will allow u to print 3 pages free every day. Super clean bathrooms.

I think this is a great library that usually has the things I’m looking for, plus more! I actually live in San Bruno but prefer going the extra couple miles to this library instead. It’s conveniently located to major stores for my errands and has a nice big parking lot. Upon entering I like their display and categorization of new books for browsing, and I like their posters for up-​coming events. They have a great selection of CDs; it’s like going to a record store, which hardly exist anymore! Plus they have a decent collection of used books for sale that are nicely organized. I always come out with an armful of goodies and the staff have always been very nice and helpful to me. I know there are other more superb libraries out there, but for a small town like Millbrae this one makes good sense, has a wealth of materials, and has all their basics covered for their community.

I love that they have an outdoor area, within their wifi range. I love studying outside. And it’s usually empty outside so it’s oh-​so quiet

They have a REALLY extensive book collection.
This library is pretty big. They have a plethora of comfy seats and outlets.

Always loud here. Got shushed by a worker while I was tutoring even though multiple kids were super noisy. Hilarious.
It’s a nice library, very clean and spacious. It’s just… loud! I guess since there are many schools around, all the cool kids come here after! There’s also a homework club going on every day.
I tutor here so I love the central location but by Golly, sometimes even I get distracted.

Everything about the Millbrae library is great except people who come here who are absolutely noisy and inconsiderate. I was here on a Saturday around 12pm-​4pm trying to study for my CPA exam and this Chinese couple wouldn’t stop talking loudly in Mandarin.
This isn’t Eggettes. This is a library, pipe down.
This isn’t a library honestly, it’s a daycare center and Internet café. Avoid during summer and after school times if you suffer from migraine headaches.

Review only for INFANT STORYTIME
Too crowded like Burlingame storytime.
Lacking personal touch of storytime with infants. I would not come here.
They close the doors 5 – 10 minutes after 930am and you need to stay there are done with storytime. (30 minutes).

Lots of computer stations, always has books I need and always great service!
Was recently there and you can rent nooks too!

This is a great library. It’s peaceful and quiet with plenty of things to do, plus a fireplace in the periodicals section.

I’ve come here twice to pick up some health books. It’s been newly remodeled and it’s really beautiful. There are nice study rooms here and a huge «computer lab». So i think it’s a great place to get some work done. If it’s a nice day you could even sit outside on the benches and read. Parking spaces are ample.
But i find the book collection a little small (compared to SF, for example). It’s a little inconvenient to get the book you need b/​c it’s shared amongst the peninsula branches. You could pay .75 and have it sent to the location you want to pick it up at.

I wish this library would do something about the middle school students here… but besides that point, I use to really enjoy coming here and getting my work done because it was quiet, peaceful, and did I mention that the tables are huge!
I would rate this library better since I grew up coming here, but seriously what the hell happened to this library. It use to be quiet when I use to come here during middle school and now it’s like a playhouse! There are middle school students on the computers and just taking up table space during nothing but sitting with their high-​tech phones and iTouch. Really? If you aren’t going to get work done and just sit on a table hogging it up for you and your friends to socialize, go somewhere else! There are people in need of those tables to study!
If you are coming to this library I recommend coming before three and after six on the weekdays! Between three and six you will hit the traffic rush of middle school kids trying to «get work done».
Besides all that… the library is pretty nice. It was remodeled a couple years back, but everything still looks new! There are a variety of books and books in different languages (chinese, japanese, korean, etc.).

i know that the books selection is limited and that during school periods children can be loud at this library.
This 5 star review is just for the meeting rooms (left side of entrance).
I recently attended a meeting presentation for my photo club here.
(Note: I was happy to see sushi platters and nice cake, instead of our usual chips & dips or pizza fare over at SOMA) It was very pleasant, clean and spacious, comfortable rolling chairs, FREE WiFi, clean bathrooms (no paper towels, just dryers),
and a huge parking lot.

Ok. This once was my favorite library. Why?
1. It’s in my neighborhood.
2. Lots of tables.
3. Librarians are helpful.
4. I used to volunteer here.
5. It was QUIET.
WHAT THE HELL HAPPEN?
After lunch at Panera this afternoon, I come here for a study session. In fact, i am right in the library right now! Talk about live Unilocaling. :)
The library was quiet and and peaceful UNTIL school was out nearby, and lots of kids of middle school and High school come in and ruin my peace bubble. SO LOUD! Seriously, I wish I could tell them to shut the fuck up and leave. The library is pretty packed with kids just talking, parents speaking loudly to others. It really kills the atmosphere that a library should have, and I wished I was in the foster city one. But like i said, it is closeby!
One advice for you, if you want peace and quiet, best time to be here is before 2pm and after 6pm (thats when you have least kids in here)

I like loitering here after school, it makes me feel safe, despite those taylor oompa loopas folllowing their media heroes and heroines. Great selection of books and magazines, particularly my favorite, Ebony. Free wifi and computer usage come in handy during the middle of the day. Its a great shelter when theres nothing to do in Milbrae.

Great library. So great, not many people are there are weekends, which equates to perfect study time for peeps like me. LOVED IT over the summer when I had to study for grad exams.
Great selection of cook books, popular, non-​fic, and DVDs.
Be kind to the staff too! They’re under a lot of stress. (Former volunteer speaking here.)

Wow, renovating the Millbrae Library was a good investment. Sure it was an expensive endeavor but I support solid public projects that serve the community in a positive way.
This library is super clean, spacious, and has A/​C! Free wi-​fi too? Woohoo!
I like that there are conference rooms but trying to reserve one after 2:30PM is a pain in the arse. There are a few big tables and seats and they fill up after 3:00PM or so. I like the Mandarin/​Japanese material though they can expand that selection more.
Final Call:
I read/​study too much not to visit this library when I’m in the area. Sweet place to escape the comforts of home, the barrens of work, and the seduction of distractions.
