By far the best Thai place around there. My wife and I have been going a few times a month for about a year and a half and it never disappoints. Make sure you get the soufflé as well.

Tuna spring rolls were fantastic and I loved the panang curry. Definitely a very cool atmosphere with the tropical fish tank as well as the elephant engraved stairs. Would also recommend their Thai iced tea for spicier dishes. Definitely going back!

Curry was fine. The Papaya salad, on the other hand, was as much lettuce as papaya and featured strawberries(yes, strawberries!!) Northern NJ continues to disappoint when it comes to Thai food. Argh!

2nd time dining here and I believe this has officially become my favorite Thai restaurant. The food is remarkable however the service is attentively satisfying and its BYOB! I was in the mood for a flavorful red snapper and I recalled my experience from my first visit. So I ordered the exact same thing. Usually things don’t taste as well the second time around, however they superseded my expectations. The snapper was fresh and cooked with love. Their chef is passionate about creating great dishes. Plate presentation is 10/10, which is a huge deal when I dine. And our hostess/server Yui was awesome. She is warm and engaging(my new BFF) I can’t wait try other options on their menu. Thank you again

Hadn’t been here in years but glad we went. Great food – the servers struggled sweetly with the English language but were attentive and efficient. Good pad Thai, dim sim(versus dim sum) and all enjoyed both their Panang Curry and salmon dishes. Reasonable/food prices and good BYOB atmosphere. Won’t be very long until we’re back again.

My lovely wife and I enjoyed dinner at Khun Thai last night, but have been perplexed ever since in trying to assess the experience. First, the clear positives– and there are many. Although tables in the front section were a bit tight, the ambiance was intimate and relaxing. Décor combines the lofty ceilings and exposed brick of a contemporary dining room with large panels of painted(an attractive color, resembling acorn squash) space adorned with nouveau Asian artwork. A large and well-maintained tropical fish tank divided the two dining areas. The experience was adequately pleasant to overcome several tables of crying and poorly supervised toddlers; c’mon, folks, on a Saturday night– really? Of course, this isn’t something that Khun Thai should be faulted for. Service was abundant, attentive, personable and professional; not diminishing as the restaurant began to fill. We found metered parking outside their front door, but as we exited it was seen that the availability of on-street parking should not be assumed in future visits. Across-the-board, portions were generous(somewhat light on the proteins) and plating showed some aesthetic consideration. Menu pricing was consistent with mid-to-upscale– yet approachable– area restaurants. We didn’t utilize the BYOB wine service, but most surrounding tables did. Their wait staff appears to understand correct wine service. The remaining criteria, including the key factor of price-value, regards the Khun Thai menu and kitchen proficiency. While there were a few clear misfires, at Khun Thai price points, these are distinctions between good and very good food. Clearly, their chicken sate was a disaster; lacking characteristic grill charring and marinated to the point of yielding a dense and very rubbery product, served with a flavorless peanut sauce. Although tasty, the shrimp Pad Thai lacked even a hint of cayenne spiciness; hardly a tragedy, but a simple missed opportunity to elevate the kitchen’s rendition of this signature Thai dish. In particular, their curried sauces could easily be mistaken for sauces not billed as being curried; mention on the menu alone just wasn’t convincing. To us, the appeal of authentic Thai food is in robust, well-balanced flavor profiles; sweet, salty, sour and spicy supporting each other to produce a pleasant layering of appealing flavors. Our sampled dishes(combination appetizer platter, Pad Thai and Goong Pra Ram(grilled shrimp over sautéed spinach with a «curried» peanut sauce) took a decidedly different approach. Flavors, other than the absence of spiciness, were heavily muted, although skillfully balanced. The descriptive phrase running through my mind as we dined was«pleasantly unassertive» food. Whether this represented a detriment is a subjective determination, as the kitchen’s expertise in achieving balance and complexity in its flavors was apparent. Referencing such an approach as «Thai-American» would be both inaccurate and inappropriately condescending; Thai ingredients and recipes handled through the lens of an almost Continental(European) approach presents a more accurate assessment. The dinner menu is extensive, offering four fried fish offerings, three frog legs, rack of lamb, «wild» boar tenderloin and four duck entrees. Similar creativity was seen in the kitchen’s version of mee krob(crispy fried rice noodles lightly sauced with a sweet-and-citrus sour accompaniment). The noodles were crushed to a course powder, and while the requisite citrus undertones were all-but-absent, their version was good. Clearly demonstrated was both depth and proficiency(sate aside) from the kitchen staff, and the result was an enjoyable meal. Without wine or dessert, but with an abundant table of tasty food and a generous tip, the tab averaged $ 35 per diner. We were thrown a few unexpected(but not unpleasant) «curves,» and for that reason, it may take another visit or two to Khun Thai before our Unilocal rating is fixed– the opportunity would be welcomed. For now, a «3-Star» would appear to be appropriate.

I had lunch with a client today at Khun Thai. This place is a great restaurant. Not only is the food amazing, but the staff is amazing as well. I recommend this place to everyone.

Food was overpriced and average quality at best. Stingy on rice servings. Have no idea how to serve or set a table. It’s a cheap Chinese that wants to charge like a 5star restaurant. To be avoided.

Revisited Khun Thai. This time the service was much better. The pad Thai was a bit sweet so I asked for some fresh chilis and vinegar to balance it out. They were very gracious and even offered two other varieties. Thusly, my ratings for them got bumped up. The food is still very average but that’s not to say it’s bad. Not necessarily as authentic as I want but still good for the market they serve. The menu has the basics that appeal to the American diner, the kind that also like American-Chinese food. I’m one of them but I do wish there were some dishes offered that remind diners of the food that the average Thai or Chinese would eat. I find most of the ethnic Thai and Chinese restaurants to be overly sweet, too much corn starch in the sauces and not enough brightness(acid) from their fish sauces and seasonings.

ummm i had a really awful experience here. when i walked in the place smelled like cleaning products. i ordered a thai basil, vegetarian… it was basically a highly watered down sauce, with lettuce(who puts lettuce in this?), and uncooked slabs of tofu. yikes! it was pretty much uneatable. never again.

Kuhn Thai is my go to for Thai food. Nice décor, outdoor seating, BYOB, friendly servers, and delicious food! My favorite dishes are the shrimp and green Papaya salad, hot pepper beef, garlic beef, and drunken noodles. My bf loves their black sticky rice(I’m not a fan). The crab soup is also really good. For a genuine taste of Thai with comfortable surroundings, Kuhn Thai won’t disappoint.

I really like this place. Great whole crispy fish, good noodle dishes, good curry dishes too(shrimp massaman curry is very good). They have this great sticky black rice wrapped in a banana leaf, and the Thai salad is very nice. It’s byob, and often crowded but usually not mobbed, so we usually get in without much of an advanced reservation.

By far our favorite Thai restaurant in the area. The owner does know us by sight, and now asks if want a menu. Drunken noodles is almost always ordered. We also like the hot pepper(chicken or beef) curry(green is our favorite — chicken or shrimp) or Phuket style chicken or beef.

Came to this restaurant last week for dinner with a large party. The restaurant has modern décor, and is clean with a trendy atmosphere. Service was slow at first, but picked up later in the meal, but this was probably due to the size of our party. I tried the waterfall beef and crab meat soup as appetizers. Both were good, but the crab meat soup was a bit salty. I had the drunken noodles as my entrée and asked for it extra spicy. It had more meat and vegetables than noodles. It wasn’t spicy, but i did get some chili sauce on the side that spiced it up a bit. Overall, the experience was pretty average. I probably won’t come back since there are better Thai spots near my house.

I have started coming to Khun Thai more recently because of its convenient location, and because Summit Thai has unfortunately gone down hill :( I almost always come for lunch, because they offer a pretty good lunch special that comes with a variety of appetizers in a sort of sampler plate, and soup of the day. I have never seen the soup of the day change though, it always seems to be carrot soup… The appetizers are all pretty good, but nothing stands out. I really like their Tom Yum soup which is very flavorful, tangy and nice and spicy. The portion is large enough to share between two people. I wish they’d offer this in their lunch special soup of the day! As for entrees, I like their drunken noodle quite a bit. I usually get them spicy, but you can request different levels of heat. Their crispy duck salad is also very good! I would recommend this place if you’re in the mood for Thai. I had their Thai Iced tea once as well, which is one of my favorite drinks. It’s pretty sweet here and I like it better when the tea flavor is more bold, but if I’m in the mood for it, I would order it again. Service is friendly and attentive. Ambiance is clean and modern.

This place is really good, never disappoints. Their curry puff apps are a good start. You can’t go wrong with any of their noodles. Drunken Noodles, Pad See Ew, and Pad Thai are always great! Their fish is delicious and succulent. Recently I tried their curry and it was spectacular! It started off a tad spicy, which I like, but it didnt blow up in heat. Really good! Made me want to lick plate

What a pleasant lunch spot in downtown Millburn! Such a nice departure from the cafes, Italian restaurants and delis that inundate the main drag in town. It has admittedly taken me a while to dine here but my friend suggested it as a lunch spot to meet. First, the truly outstanding service must be mentioned. The owner came over several times to freshen our tea cups with hot water. Food was fresh and served promptly without making us feel rushed. We were the first lunch diners in the restaurant midweek around 12:30 but stragglers did find their way into the duplex location. While the décor isn’t spectacular, it is worth noting that the space is bright and airy with high ceilings and lots of light from the front windows. While we didn’t sample a wide variety of menu items, what we ordered was spot on. The Tom Yum Khung soup was perfectly spicy and flavorful without being overwhelming. They were very accommodating when I asked for it to be made vegetarian style omitting the shrimp. They also were happy to oblige my friend’s request for assorted steamed vegetables with plenty of bok choy and broccoli. The beef salad was superb. Bright colors, a tasty vinaigrette and a plate full of lean grilled and well seasoned beef. Yum! And our bill was a whopping $ 25 which is a total bargain for the quality and portion of food. The dinner menu looks even more enticing and I look forward to giving it a try. Note: the above rating is merely a reflection of the limited scope of my review and single visit. Hoping to have an excuse to review again and give a more complete rating and review.
