Golden Wok

The golden wok is great Chinese food at a reasonable price. When the golden wok first opened I was the very first customer the first 20 $ bill on the wall, the food has had its up’s and downs but over all better they anywhere else around!!!

I live in Millerton, and have been at the Golden Wok on several occasions. Service is good. Food tastes pretty good. Unfortunately, what is consistently the case, and especially in the winter, the food is served on an ice cold plate, and the food is cold. By now I already know this, and in spite of my waiter’s request to preheat the plate, I still always get food served cold or if I am lucky, luke warm. Which I then need to request the waiter to return it to the kitchen to get reheated. They just don’t get it.

This is one of the worst Chinese food restaurants I have been to. We had the sesame noodles, wontons, egg roll, beef with vegetables and Kung Pao Chicken. The egg roll was ok but the other dishes were subpar. We also forgot to request white rice and got the fried rice which was the worst part of the meal. Will not be back. Millerton has much better to offer.

The beef and broccoli is amazing! So is the hot and sour soup. But the rest of the dishes are pretty average.

I did not like this food! I’ve eaten here before, maybe a year ago and the food was ok. I ordered beef egg foo young and the boneless ribs because another contributor commented how good they were. The ribs were hard over cooked pieces of pork and the egg foo young had a lot of fatty pieces of something, I don’t know what kind of meat it was, like a mystery meat. The gravy that came with it had oil floating on top of it. I won’t eat there again.

Our waiter was a spirited man who took care of our every need and answered every question with a smile on his face. The food was both delicious and nutritious and we had a delightful time.

FOOD: Our meal was actually good, and I found myself (perhaps due to hunger after hours in the car) devouring what was on my plate. It was ‘better than average’, and if it weren’t for the service, I would come again.
SERVICE: I’m typically not one to be intimidated by servers, and can typically connect with any server having a tough day. However, our waiter was implacable. Apparently, serving tables is a distasteful chore for some akin to a pap smear. He made me sad. I couldn’t help but wonder what his life was like and why he was so distant and cold. Bad childhood? Bad gas? I couldn’t figure him out. Then I realized that I don’t have to figure him out. He’s there to bring the food to the table, and that’s it. Yup, that’s it. Lesson learned.

They have THE BEST boneless spare ribs EVER. I’ve had lots of boneless spare ribs from lots of different Chinese restaurants since moving out of Millerton, and absolutely none of them have come even close to that of Golden Wok. This restaurant will forever hold a place in my heart.
They get one star knocked off because their dumplings made my mother sick. Granted, that was one time out of hundreds since Golden Wok opened, but still. Kinda yikes.

Best Chinese food north of china town! Family who owns and operates are always quick with a smile and a hello! Fast service! A+

Golden Wok has consistently good food, which is not something you can say about most Chinese restaurants in rural locations. It is, IMHO the best one in the area. Their ‘traditional’ Chinese dishes are tasty and inexpensive and they also feature sushi which isn’t half bad and some Thai dishes that I crave fortnightly.
As is with most Chinese restaurants, the service can be iffy, but never horrible.
Pictures of the owner’s children adorn nearly every square inch of the walls lately, which is odd, but nice to see she cares a lot about her kids, I guess ^_​^ who are often running around outside the restaurant in the RR plaza.
The sit down area is nice, clean and in good shape. The bathrooms however could use some work. :/​
Take out is predictably quick, but make sure you check your order before getting too far from the place. As it is often quite busy, sometimes your Chow Mein could be swapped by accident with someone else’s Chow Fun!
I love Golden Wok and have it frequently for both takeout and to sit down in the restaurant.

Sorry, no stars (I had to put one — it is undeserved!!). Went for lunch with my children — not a soul in the place– we were instructed to sit anywhere — and then we sat, and sat and waited. The good news is we had crappy chips in front of us. No one showed up to take our order so we left. Lame!!!
