Well, this store is definitely made for a specific niche, but I’d encourage anyone to stop by, by the same token. I stopped in a couple days before Christmas this year to look for a couple of small gifts. Perhaps locals of the Tri-State Region are familiar with Crystal Essence up in Great Barrington; I was expecting more of a store like that, and though there is a small emphasis on healing stones and natural accessories, the real draw here is the herbs and oils. The right wall of the store is a veritable superstore for any herbal need, with large glass jars pasted with names and explanations. It’ll cost a bit of a pretty penny for some, but it’s worth it for those that are interested. I have never seen a store as such in the area, and though I can’t say I’d stop by each time I was home to visit my parents, it IS pretty cool! Also, they have a large drum of Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile Soap that patrons can come and refill. DUDE. If that’s not awesome…

The Village Herbalist(also known as TVH) is a wonderful place. I’m happy to be writing the first review of this awesome shop! I had trouble finding categories that accurately described the unique services TVH offers, so I thought I’d copy and paste how the owner and herbalist, Terri Lundquist, described her store on her website. The Village Herbalist is your local source for a healthy body, mind, and spirit. We offer: – herbal apothecary with herbal teas, tinctures, salves — healing consultations — plant-based cleaning products — kitchen and bath supplies for the non-toxic home — essential oils, salts, and organic skin care oils — crystals, meditation and divination tools — feminine and flowy yoga clothes to live and play in by donna M — classes and workshops — life coaching and women’s empowerment training — gift items from family-run, earth-friendly neighbors — a peaceful environment to explore new ideas One thing this description doesn’t do justice is the unique atmosphere of TVH. As soon as you walk into the store, you are hit with a cloud of herbal scents – lavender, yarrow, lemongrass, and cardamom – that immediately puts you at ease. If I’m in the middle of a stressful day, a sure fire way to get my blood pressure to drop a few notches is to go to TVH and bask in its peaceful, soothing, accepting atmosphere. Behind the counter, you’ll meet Terri(the owner) or Aimee. Both are eager to help you in any way they can, whether it be a tea mixture to help you sleep, a lovely-smelling soap for your shower, or just a conversation with someone who is non-judgmental and is willing to listen. If you want to get off your feet for a few minutes, there is a wonderful, comfy chair that I highly recommend. If you have small children – not to worry! Terri has set up a little area with chalk and crayons where they can play while you peruse the amazing selection throughout the store. TVH offers a wide range of assorted products, so one thing I would say is don’t be afraid to ask questions! Terri and Aimee would be happy to explain anything and everything. I would also encourage you to set up an appointment with Terri, who is an extremely gifted herbalist and is great at what she does. Whether you’re suffering from insomnia, high blood pressure, anxiety, a weak immune system, or really anything else you can think of – Terri can help! So next time you’re in Millerton, stop by the Village Herbalist. You won’t be disappointed!
