Last time I went, I ordered the French toast and a side of pork roll. It was so unhealthy, but the taste was completely out of this world!!! If you’re not on a diet(or you can afford to indulge) you should definitely try the French toast. I like to order my pork roll crispy/burnt, and they serve it, not as crispy, unless you ask for it like that. The servers are friendly as well. They go out of their way to help you if you need it. They always have a good attitude and serve the food quickly.

I love the menu options and all this place has to offer. Unfortunately, it falls short where the service lies. Everyone being the counter was super helpful and genuinely nice. However they were extremely short staffed. We were a party of three and it took us 20 minutes to order and another 40 minutes to get served. This was on a Sunday morning, there weren’t that many tables there either. Although once we complained about the wait the staff did give us an offer to take a generous discount off our next meal at Cray. The food was great, service was amazing, but wait time really makes me hesitant to come back again… although, who am I kidding. I would definitely come back again. Hopefully the wait time will be better.

Awesome little luncheonette off the beaten path. Stopped in for the first time for An easy Sunday breakfast. It’s located across from the old Mill a couple of blocks off of Main St. Bright and sunny, you order at the counter and the food is then delivered to the table. I had the Cray Eggs Benedict: 2 perfectly poached eggs, delicious hearty helping of hollandaise sauce, pork roll, on a fresher baked roll! Served with your choice of home fries(I picked these) or hashbrowns. Dude… I mean dude… this was bonkers good! My boyfriend had the 3 Little Pigs sandwich(bacon, ham, porkroll, eggs and cheese) and added the hashbrown. Again… he inhaled it with no complaints… and could not stop saying how delicious everything was. Totally coming back with all intentions on making this our local go to spot. Next time I’m all over the French toast and will be coming to try lunch! Brianna is the gal who is running the show at Cray and could not have been nicer. It’s so awesome seeing a young female business owner kick butt with such a great restaurant. If you don’t visit, you’re doing yourself a disservice.

This place was A-OK! Overall I liked the concept, super friendly people working at the place especially shout out to guy behind the counter who explained everything so thoroughly. I liked that they were all trying to make their own bread. Its refreshing to have someone really make their own foods and I bet it must be supremely satisfying for them. I’ll have to say though that their food was just ok. Nothing really wowed me, I wouldnt really travel/crave this establishment. Ordered the eggs benedict with sausage. It was just ok. Few things kind of turned me off The bread in itself… I appreciated how they tried making their own bread but i’m not sure why all the bread I tried felt so… heavy. It just kind of sunk in my stomache. The bread that came with the eggs benedict had too strong of a butter kind of taste and felt so filling. Ordered the waffles. Waffle batter/dough was again too heavy. I was expecting crisp fluffy yet crispy waffle heaven yet was encountered with thick, cloying waffle disappointment. Don’t give up guys! I’ll try again for sure when I’m in the area. Definitely a good addition and different from chain restaurants, but it definitely has room to grow.

Stopped in for breakfast and totally understand why there are so many good reviews for Cray Café. The eggs Benedict with spinach was delicious. My husband got adventurous and had the eggs Benedict on French toast, which was amazing! I was skeptical, but the sweetness of the toast paired really well with the house made hollandaise sauce. The best thing about this place is that they will pretty much make anything for you if they have the ingredients in the kitchen. Hot dog omelet waffle sandwich? Sure! And if you get creative, they’ll probably take a picture of you and your food. Oh, unlimited coffee… Also awesome. And I highly suggest sitting at the bar. The owner, Breanne(sp?) has a contagiously upbeat and humorous personality… It’s hard not to laugh at the shenanigans going on between her and the rest of the staff at Crays. Made us feel like part of the family :) Also: mustache games, horse man, incessant bell ringing… Fun and fantastic food. Do it.

Cray café is a house-y looking establishment in between some houses on Ford Ave. Quiet interesting looking, but you can make it out due to the amount of surrounding vehicles and patrons walking in(you’d think it was a cult gathering). Upon entering you see a decently large seating area and a counter where you place your order. I wanted a good breakfast so I ordered a bacon cheddar omelet, hash brown and rye toast. My girlfriend had the CJB biscuit, eggs, and turkey bacon and lastly my brother had the three little pigs on fried French toast. The food looked amazing, they really have some innovative menu items, and all the bread is homemade. One issue I had with this place is the wait took 45+ minutes. While I could understand if they were busy… They simply were not. There were two other tables besides us… One of which was already served. So I was a bit Confused. Once our food came out we dug in. The eggs were fluffy, the hash brown instead of home fries were definitely welcomed, and biscuit was one of the greatest tasting ones to date and the three little pigs on fried French toast seems excess, but it’s a must try in your lifetime. I really like this place, just wish the wait time wasn’t as bad. Although, they gave us 50% off our next meal to compensate so I will definitely be back

Really good. Glad I tried this place today. I got the sausage egg and cheese on French toast with home fries. It was really good. It was big so I couldn’t finish it all. I think it’s good to share with two people when cut in half(unless you eat big portions by yourself.) the home fries were good as well. I can’t eat here all the time(because of the obvious) but I will be going bk every so often. Great cozy place.

I have gone here a handful of times over the past few weeks and everything I have had has been amazing! I had the 3 little pigs the first time and cray Benedict the last 2 times. Everything has been spot on and delicious. The people who work here make you feel so comfortable and the food is great. I give this place 2 thumbs up and recommend that you come and try it too! You will be happy you did.

I’m sorry but I made it two traffic lights before getting sick after leaving. I’m an awkward person and have a hard time sending food back. If I send it back I want no replacement and that usually turns into a odd situation to sit there while my wife eats. Today we set out alarms to go to Cray café and see what the 4.5 stars were all about. I got the Eggs Benedict and what a horrible mistake. As soon as the food came out the first thing I noticed was that they were on a large home made bun. Not biscuit or English muffin… a bun. Like a hamburger type bun. Next thing I noticed was that the hollandaise was very runny and contained bubbles. A good hollandaise should have a thicker creamy like consistency… this was not that. At first bite I knew this is bad. It’s had an overly sweet(maybe the ton of butter on roll) and definitely a sourness to it. Why I decided it would be a better idea to force it all back as fast as possible instead of just return it I’ll never understand. After seeing the sauce I should have expected improper technique elsewhere, but was somehow disappointed all over again when my poached eggs were cooked all the way through. Where were the jalapeño cheddar biscuits I see in every picture? How come it said Cray Benedict comes with spinach on it as well, but I didn’t get any. What it comes down to is I never sit at the counter and this place looks cool so I did sit at counter. I didn’t have the heart to tell the cook 7 feet away from me I couldn’t stand my food. I should have went with the biscuits and gravy… wait… That means they did have biscuits to put my eggs on. I don’t get why they would use a roll that’s twice the size of every other item on the dish and make the sausage and eggs look small. If your going to get something like sausage egg and cheese or the famous 3 little pigs in sure that’s fine as its all freezer/grill top type food, but I’d stay away from something like Eggs Benedict that requires actual cooking/preparation and skill. Hopefully I’m not spending rest of my day off in the restroom. News 12 on the T.V. Was the best part of my meal… Unfortunately they were primarily reporting bad news today. Seems to be in line with my luck. Oh yeah. This is Milltown. Nobody is going to run off without paying. What’s with making me pay before I eat? That would have made things much more awkward during a return. Furthermore, when I enjoy food I tend to order more, but wouldn’t want to bother going back up front to order and pay again. Just let me rack up a bill and charge me in the end. I feel bad about this review, but would feel worse about lying.

Cray Café occupies an old building across Ford Avenue from the shells of industrial brick and mortar factories sitting along Lawrence Brook in Milltown, NJ. Once the spine of manufacturing and employment, they are now but a silent reminder of what was the early heart of American enterprise. The large southern exposure windows allow morning light to pour in and cast a glow on this newest effort to breathe life back into this community. Sitting alone at the counter after ordering my Sausage, Egg & Cheese Sandwich on a house-baked Roll, and pouring a mug of Java at the small coffee station, I allowed my mind to wander to another time when this same light graced the grocery store that ran here 80 years ago. Was I seeing the same dust dance excitedly in the light? The anthropologist in me searched for artifacts on the street and weeded lots. My breakfast arrived accompanied by Brianna, the owner/pioneer of this venture begun only 10 months ago. The place felt so much older, like it was possessed of many lives that had lived within these walls, or shopped the aisles of the earlier incarnation. I ate my delicious sandwich and sipped the strong Joe, as I learned the history of this edifice from its latest curator. I knew almost immediately that this was a special place for anyone sensitive enough to feel its vibration. While my breakfast was excellent, the overall atmosphere of the house nearly overwhelmed the meal. So, come for breakfast or lunch, and enjoy the strong spirit of the place.

I had really high expectation reading all the amazing reviews here. I just got back in town and was suffering from jetlag. I was wide awake at 6am, even though I felt exhausted. I was hungry, but I’ve got no food at home. I opened Unilocal on my phone and Cray Café was in the front page, with a almost perfect rating. I ordered coffee and biscuits and gravy. I didn’t like the biscuits at all– they didn’t have the crumbs on the surface and were resistant rather than crumbly. The gravy was only meh. Kinda disappointed from this visit.

Wonderful place! Just a couple of miles from my apartment. I’m going to detail all the reasons you should go there Ambience: casual and quirky. Fun artwork, great music. Plenty of seating and a lovingly maintained facility. Hostess/owner: named Bryanna(I hope I’m spelling that right). She’s friendly and knowledgable and will customize any meal/item for you. Food: everything else is just ancillary. This is the important stuff. And it is SO good. Everyone talks about the Three Little Piggies or the Big Bad Wolf. I’ve had the former and it is great, but I think the Cray Café’s genius lies in how well they do even the simple. My favorite order there is a pork roll and egg sandwich on a fresh-baked roll. The prices are unbelievably good. An egg sandwich is $ 3. Add any meat for $ 1. Coffee is $ 1. Other things I’d recommend. The sweet cream crepes with the strawberry sauce. The dessert waffle. Their wraps are amazing and ask for fresh jalapeño on it.

In this chain restaurant day & age we’ve become somewhat accustomed to the sterile run of the mill mediocrity that has run rampant here in suburbia. Cray’s is a slice of throw back Americana here in quaint lil Milltown. The lost art of down home cooking for me is why I come to Cray’s. Cheddar/jalapeño biscuits with sausage gravy(remarkably tasty gravy) throw on a hash brown and a sausage patty with a slice of cheddar and it’s on. So good its spiritual, of course you’re risking cardiac arrest due to the high fried content and cholesterol. The only hit they take is that their biscuits are far too dense, fork standing dense to be exact and for me that’s a hard nut to swallow, literally. In fact, the deep fried options kinda take over the breakfast menu. Putting the ubiquitous Cardiologist nightmare aside, the«3 little pigs» or 3 x little pigs squished into«The Big bad wolf» will satisfy even the biggest of farm boy appetites. Pork roll, ham, bacon, egg & cheese combined with a hash brown and burger. You will not leave feeling that value was lacking. The menu is simple as it should be, too many places water their product down by an overwhelming menu of mediocre dishes such as the many diners in CNJ. They focus on the basics and do them fairly well. A few of the down sides other then the afore mentioned less than healthy fried focus, is the size of the place. Quaint with a counter and less than 10 tables, this place can get cramped during rush hour. Only one waitress and cashier in the same so as you can guess service can get a lil backed up, but friendly, warm & inviting. Serve your self coffee station can get annoying for those multiple refill coffee and tea peeps like myself, when I belly up the last thing I want to do is break from the feed bag for more gogo juice. Call me lazy, I prefer feeding focus. They close just after lunch. Clean. Priced average. After a few visits I’m hooked on the breakfast sandwiches. The pancakes & waffles are just OK. As much as I’d love to make regular visits, the fried content deters my allowance. Hurray for a local winner, this breakfast & lunch spot nicely delivers, occasionally, lol.

I’m glad I stopped by for breakfast here today. The service is top notch. Bryanne was super welcoming and even asked for our names and shook our hands. I asked about the«Big Bad Wolf» breakfast sandwich(which isn’t on their reg menu) because I read about it from a review from Unilocal. She joked that she never heard about it before. And I was like someone just randomly wrote that?(Which would be an awesome Unilocal prank btw lol) But of course they did have it and my boyfriend ordered it AND had his picture taken. Overall just an awesome welcoming atmosphere. You order at the counter and then they bring the food out to you. Coffee and water bottles are $ 1 and the coffee is self serve unlimited refill. They have milk, half and half, and hazelnut/french vanilla coffee creamers. On to the food: good and satisfying. My bacon was cooked just the way I like it: crispy but not burnt. I also got the biscuits with sausage gravy. The gravy was delicious. The only critique I have about the whole place was that the biscuit was a bit dense and bready, instead of flaky. I’ll definitely will be back to try their waffles and cray bennie :)

There are few things that will spoil a man more than an amazingly well-cooked breakfast made with fresh, homemade ingredients. When I think of the very best in class, I think of three of places — Egg, in North Williamsburg, Brooklyn; Pies & Thighs, in South Williamsburg, Brooklyn; and Luke, in New Orleans. Cray Café is the first place I’ve encountered since moving back to New Jersey that has finally broken through the local haze of breakfast mediocrity, and I love that it is just a couple of miles from my house. Biscuits and sausage gravy is without a doubt one of my most favorite decadent dishes of all time. The aforementioned Pies & Thighs is the only place I’ve ever encountered it north of the Mason-Dixon line where it is as good as any place I’ve ever eaten it down South. That changed today when I ordered a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich, stacked perfectly on a spicy, homemade jalapeño cheddar biscuit, and served with a big dollop of sausage gravy and a crispy, fried hashbrown. This was pure decadence that will require a few extra runs on the treadmill this weekend, but it was absolutely delicious.(And it’s happening right here in Milltown!) My wife likes things pretty basic and simple, so she ordered a fried egg and cheese on a toasted buttered roll, topped with lettuce and tomato. My wife isn’t quite as particular about food as I am, but I enjoyed the look on her face as she dug into her sandwich because it was clear she was really enjoying it. Speaking afterward, she told me it was the best egg and cheese sandwich she has had since moving to New Jersey. I always say simple and delicious wins the day, and at Cray Café they’ve been smart to keep the menu pretty basic so far — breakfast, burgers, hot dogs, and a few simple, but unique sandwiches. Unlike a diner, which tries to do everything and rarely does anything all that well, the Cray Café seems to be focusing on just a few key things, and then knocks them out of the park. I think that’s a smart approach for a new business just getting started. For those who have serious appetites and strong hearts, they offer a sandwich called the Three Little Pigs, made with pork roll, bacon, ham, egg, and cheese, which can also be topped with a crispy hashbrown. If that’s not enough to kill you in your tracks with a smile on your face, upgrade to the Big Bad Wolf, which is a Three Little Pigs sandwich topped with a 6-ounce burger. I’d say this would be the perfect drunk food if it wasn’t for the fact that they close at 2pm daily.(Although I do know some people who might be in the bag at that early hour…) Slightly less artery-clogging but sounding super-delicious nonetheless is a grilled chicken sandwich made with garlic butter and mayo. I’m almost thinking why not fry that baby up and serve it all southern style on one of those amazing jalapeño cheddar biscuits with that amazing gravy? Luke in New Orleans makes an incredible chicken biscuit like that that could easily be replicated here.(Ok, ok… now I’m being selfish.) And finally, there’s the little things; things that all add up and separate out those businesses going the extra mile, versus those that are just barely hitting the mark. Here, these things include: — Free wi-fi — Great coffee!(This is a must.) — Friendly, attentive service by staff eager to please — Louisiana Hot Sauce & Sriracha available on demand — Clean, clean, clean! All in all, a great first visit. I can’t wait to go back and try a burger or that garlicky chicken sandwich. Definitely in line for a 5-star review if subsequent visits are good as this one! Hell, maybe these guys and gals should open up a bar, too? :)

The kind of small-town restaurants that I love, its a throwback in the best way. These sort of simple lunch counter restaurants are in serious danger of disappearing, so its always so refreshing to find one. Down an unassuming street in Milltown, you’ll find the newly-opened Cray Café. Simple food, great prices, and friendly staff are the hallmarks of this small restaurant. You can’t go wrong with any of the breakfast platters, and all the sandwiches are served on their house-made rolls. I had the Three Little Pigs sandwich, a towering stack of pork(bacon, taylor ham, and sausage) with cheese and egg piled on a fluffy roll. For an added bonus, I put a hash brown patty on it. Everything you love about breakfast on one sandwich. My friend had the cheese crepes, which were filled with a tasty sweet cream cheese and served with tasty home fries. I definitely want to go back and get my own crepes soon. Rounding off this brunch was the unlimited coffee, which i took full advantage of as my group enjoyed a lazy Sunday in their sunny dining room. Cray Café is still finding its feet, but you can tell its all moving in the right direction. You may have to wait a bit for your food as the kitchen is just getting into the groove of things, but everything is fresh and homemade so this is easily forgivable. Don’t be afraid to share ideas and opinions on the food with the owners, they’re open to suggestions and always eager to improve. Their goal is to provide the people of Milltown with great comfort food in a casual, homey, atmosphere and I have to say they’re achieving it.
