So my wife and I have been here 3 times to check out the consistency. The food is consistently awesome. We have always ate at the bar, and the bar staff are awesome and attentive. They provide clean plates after each item(tapas style). Now, that’s where I start — the staff are attentive and informative. They actually know their menu and have opinions and suggestions. Now the food: We started with a cheese plate; then the fried chicken; then kale-apple-salad; then the steamed mussels; then the scallops; and topped off with a chocolate bread pudding with homemade marshmallows. The food was awesome. We will be back again. Tim Lopez

I hate having to do this, as we’ve been to AP2 times prior to our trip on the Wednesday before Memorial Day, and both those trips didn’t miss a beat. This Weds though, everything besides our phenomenal server was really not on point. We started off with the oysters which had absolutely no flavor of their own. They were served with a super-vinegar heavy sauce that overwhelmed anything that may have been there(if there had been any flavor to start with, which as I said, there wasn’t). This was not a good start, and yet was an omen of the dishes to come. Next we had the bacon-wrapped dates. I know they are way too sweet for me from prior trips, but my husband and friend loved them and thought this was the best dish of the night. Next up was hamachi served with a slice of jalapeño. Again, IMO, this was extremely bland. My husband and friend found it to be «OK» but I was just saddened by this dish, though I admit I am hard to please when it comes to sushi. I ordered the Hen of the Woods mushroom, as I was excited to see what they would do with it… What they did was fry it, and that’s about that. My friend had never eaten one so he was excited, but as the only flavor there was that of the fried breading, it was another huge disappointment on the trainwreck that was our dinner. Finally, we got the fried chicken. The sauce was, as usual, absolutely delicious. The chicken, however, was boring, tough, and fatty. How was this so great a year ago? I wish I remembered our servers name, because as I mentioned, he was great. Everyone also enjoyed their respective drinks… but AP really disappointed this night. And as it was my husband’s fave restau in MKE, he was really bummed as he’d been pumped to share it with our friend from NYC who was visiting. Hopefully it was just an off night for them. Not sure. For why this gets 2 stars, please read the vast divergence that is my prior review.

Great food and atmosphere! Everything is farm to table and the wine selection is outstanding. The owner was so great and when we did not like the first two wine suggestions from the server, he personally came over and hit the nail on the head! All of the small plates were outstanding and my scallops were to die for! They also gave us complimentary champagne with dessert. The ambiance is great and could be wonderful for anything from a birthday, girls night out or a romantic dinner.

This really is likely my favourite Milwaukee area and it’s become our go to location for dates. The service has ever been welcoming and learned; they have never steered us wrong with wine or food recommendations. We have attempted several dishes and have never been disappointed. Attempt a biscuit plate for dessert; it’s the best method to finish a meal.

I want to like this place more than I did. I really did. But it’s probably the stomach upset and general sense of ugh from the overly decadent risotto causing me to give this place 3-stars. AP Bar has a lot of great things going for it: nice atmosphere, good wine list, attentive service, and a very tasty bacon-wrapped date appetizer. Their cocktails are solid, albeit a tad overpriced. Their burger is good(thanks friends for letting me try it!), but I was otherwise unimpressed with the rest of their menu. Only the burger and maybe 2 salads were priced under $ 20. I decided to indulge and spent more than I generally like to spend on a night out. The pricey risotto with ramp(apparently, a wild onion) did not sit well. I wasn’t even upset that I forgot my leftovers at the restaurant. I’d be open to coming back and giving this place another go, but I won’t be going out of my way to come back any time soon.

It was Walkers Point foodie week so my friend and I decided to check out this place since neither of us heard of it before. We made a wonderful choice. Before I get to the food, I just say this place has a great look to it. It’s fancy yet not, like I could wear a bow tie if I wanted to but I can also wear my beat up jeans with it and it’d be cool. The cream city brick wall behind the bar was also really cool to see. As for the food, they have a very unique menu that has scallops, lamb ragu, fried chicken, bacon wrapped dates, pork belly buns, big delicious mushroom things and other wonderful sounding dishes. I got a 3 course meal and started out with the tuna crudo, which was a wonderful starter and had a really great sauce with it. For dinner I had the lamb ragu, which was really tasty but I think it lacked lamb because I barely tasted any, but for desert I had a chocolate bread pudding with toffee and salted caramel ice cream. It was the greatest thing maybe ever. It made life worth living. My friend got the scallops and we both agreed that that were the best scallops we have ever had. Along with the great food, we had a super friendly and awesome bartender/server that made the experience here even better. So yeah, eat food here because it’s worth it and your life will be better for it.

This place is a true gem of a «yelp» find for a coworker and I who were tired of eating at the same places in MKE during our work trips. We both had terrific meals, tasty drinks, and the bartender/server was friendly, knowledgeable, engaging, and made us really sorry we hadn’t found this place sooner. This is on my go-to list from here on out.

This is a case where I really wish I could give half stars. I was in town with the hubby and saw my fellow Unilocaler elites really raved about this place. I love crazy water so I was sooooo excited to try this place out. Not disappointed! The food was blissful and decadent. Try the vodka soda. A true delight!!! Great job to Justin and co for keeping me continually happy every time I roll through. A true extension of familial dining. I leave with a smile on my face every time.

I dine in for easter brunch. The experience was superb. All food was done perfectly and I can tell the chef care about the guests and use right ingredients. Probably this guys get supply from local farmers and use sustainable. Service was excellent and very professional. Very impressed. I would come here often if i am not coming from chicago.

I am a big fan of Crazy water so I was excited to finally try AP. What a delight. The dimly lit setting with preserved historic charm feels intimate and romantic. I am a ‘sit at the bar’ kind of person whenever possible because I really appreciate a craft cocktail and enjoy watching a skilled bartender at work. The bartender was very friendly and I was impressed throughout our meal at his ability to multi-task and give each diner some TLC. The Brown Sugar cocktail was one of the best I’ve had in Milwaukee in quite some time. We started our meal with the Tuna Crudo which was presented beautifully and had a great flavor profile and the thinly sliced tuna created the perfect texture with the other ingredients. Next were the pork belly buns. Unlike some steamed buns I’ve had the bun was not overly doughy and didn’t take away from the great flavor of the braised pork. We felt it necessary to try the AP burger and it did NOT disappoint. Incredibly juicy, with great flavors of onion and gruyère. We asked to have it cooked medium rare and I think it was a little closer to medium, but it was still delicious. Finally we decided to try the fried chicken, after reading so many stellar reviews of it and the recommendation from the bartender. It was good, but was not my favorite. The soy ginger vinaigrette was VERY salty and didn’t stick well to the chicken, so you sort of had to dip the chicken into the sauce to get it’s flavor with each bite. All in all, it was a great meal! Favorites: Brown Sugar cocktail, AP Cheeseburger

A few months back, Patrick Murphy from Le Reve became the Chef de Cuisine here, so I was looking forward to see his additions to the menu. I made it in a week ago Saturday. We reviewed the drink and food menu and found several items jump out from the food menu that looked interesting and delicious. There seems to be enough to cover al tastes on the menu. We ordered a beer from their decent beer list and started with one of the specials for the night, a Bruschetta with goat cheese, thyme-roasted grapes, and candied pecans served on large pieces of toasted artisan bread. The flavors of the ingredients were great, but there was too much bread, or too little topping. The bruschetta was $ 5, so I would have been satisfied with the same amount of ingredients on bread half the size to balance out the flavor and textures. For our entrees, we ordered the Crispy Asiago Polenta($ 19), topped with mushroom Bolognese, broccolini, and herbed crème fraiche. It was a large hunk of very crispy polenta cake. I didn’t get much asiago cheese flavor, but I really enjoyed the mushroom Bolognese. I’ve only had polenta cake twice, so I don’t have much to compare this one to. I liked it, but I would have preferred more mushroom Bolognese to balance out the texture of the large piece polenta cake, which I thought was a bit dry. If you’re a vegetarian, I highly recommend this dish. The star of the evening was the Pappardelle al’Cinghiale($ 18) with wild boar ragu, cipollini onions, and spinach. I loved this dish! The pasta is made fresh in house, the ragu was rich and delicious, and the balance of ingredients was spot on. It was perfect! There are still several items on the menu that I would like to try, and I’m sure the menu will change a little as we get into the Spring, so I definitely plan to go back.

Good drinks, great service, yummy food! Tried this place out for the first time with a CityTin. Will be back again! They have a nice big selection of beers and wine. For food we ordered the white bean bruschetta with pesto, and tomatoes. Very good, love pesto! From previous reviews on Unilocal I noticed the braised pork belly buns. Decided to give it a try and it was worth every bite! The meat was tender and flavorful served in a warm bun. It had a little kick to it with the red peppers. A little disappointed to see that they now only serve it with 2 pork belly buns. On previous Unilocal reviews I seen it being served with 3. Next we shared sea scallops which were huge, served on sweet potato purée. The dish was delicious. For desert we ordered a warm chocolate cake. Topped with sea salt Carmel and marshmallows! A little sweet and salty. Would order the dish again. All in all a great restaurant, nice atmosphere, service was quick, and food was delicious!

Great food, great drinks, and friendly staff. Everything was fantastic… Except my carrots. My beef short ribs with kale was perfection but they came with baby carrots? I was confused seemed like someone dropped the ball and forgot to get real carrots. The baby carrots were flavorless and disappointing. I am sure it was a mistake. I still would recommend the short ribs and cheese plate was amazing!

Dim and trendy, AP is reliably near the top of best restaurants in Walker’s Point. The menu is frequently changing, and with plenty of New American influences, there’s a lot here for a variety of tastes. The fried chicken is mentioned in many reviews and for good reason — perfectly crispy, and the soy ginger vinaigrette takes the bird in a slightly different direction than you might otherwise be expecting. Likewise for the spaghetti squash salad; it’s nice to see the squash treated more as a main ingredient, and the cold preparation with the curry lime vinaigrette brought bold and surprising flavor combinations. Although there were other dishes, the most successful item of the night was the cauliflower. Serving it with fried capers, golden raisins, and crème fraîche brought salt, sour, sweet, and creamy elements that harmonized with the unassuming cruciferous vegetable. Really there was no bad plate of food at AP. It’s the kind of meal where you order too much because you want to try it all, then you feel too full after they clear the plates so you order dessert and coffee to settle your stomach. It’s the kind of meal that you try to stretch out for as long as it will last because you’re having such a good time.

PEI Mussels… new to the menu… were great! Served with french fries to soak up some of the yummy goodness, I’d go back just to get that. Oh… and the chocolate bread pudding dessert thing. shutting… the…front…door. I’ve been here twice now, and really enjoy this place. First time i had the octopus(I love octo!) and i’ve also had the duck confit and a few other samplings.

The AP burger. You simply must get the AP burger. It is so damn good. Very filling, but totally worth it. The fries were also pretty fantastic. This spot is super adorable, with a bit of dark date night vibes, and I love it. Cocktails were also wonderful. I look forward to coming back to try more!

Nice atmosphere and charm. Excited to try out a few dishes on menu. The Braised Pork Buns were average… needed a bit more flavor. Fried chicken was average because they were a bit dry; however, the presentation and flavor profile with the soy sauce dressing was very tasty. The dark meat was tender and delicious. The grilled octopus was my favorite dish. It was aromatic, smoky, and tender. I would definitely recommend this dish. All in all an enjoyable dining experience. I will be back.

I waited for three visits to be sure of it, but this is definitely in the top five of my restaurants to bring a date to. It’s like a litmus test of how and what people eat, with a solid selection of drinking options for every palate, and a place you can dress up or down to visit. I love the ambience of this place, being dark enough to have some intimacy, but not so dark it’s like walking into Bryant’s and taking five minutes to adjust. The seating in the middle of the room doesn’t make you feel like your stuck in the middle of a party, but the bar is still a standout if you like to watch the staff at work The wine and cocktail list are both approachable without needing a guide or small loan, and the beer selection is pretty standard among what’s become the expectation for dining in this city. For food, I don’t think there’s anything you can go wrong with. I always made it a point to get a blend of a salad and two other small dishes, preferably their Asian fried chicken(which seem to have gone missing from the menu lately). If you’ve got another person who can share, you can cover at least a quarter of the menu. Desserts tend to change, as does the menu, but I’ve only ordered once and it was a cookie plate that wasn’t entirely memorable. With the best of reasons in mind, I blame being distracted by my date for that.

Returned recently after a long hiatus of not having been and was really freaking impressed. Bumping it up! Here’s why: +wine: a great wine list, accessible by the glass prices that don’t sacrifice uniqueness and quality, bottles for days +booze: so many interesting off-the-beaten path boozes! Great cocktails. +service: we’re bar dwellers and our bartender was phenomenal. Knowledgeable but humble, approachable and nice yet not invasive to our date night at all. I was able to talk through my love of vermouth with him and he made me an off-the-menu cocktail that was perfectly to my liking featuring some stellar sweet and dry vermouths. Yum. +ambiance: this is a place for ADULTS. It’s mature in a «cooler than the other side of the pillow» kind of way. It’s not trying too hard, but you can take in the thoughtful touches all around. Well done. +food: everything was fantastic… the dates, the bruschetta, and that BEETSALAD(swoon). All three bites were balanced, thoughtful in conception and were executed flawlessly. We’ll be back and often… Luke is already buggin’ on it.

This is a case where I really wished that Unilocal allowed for half stars. Recently visited All Purpose based on a few recommendations from friends. A brief summary — I really love the menu and what they’re trying to do. The dishes were good, but none really wowed me to the point where I thought that I had to come back. However, the drinks and desserts were very very good. We started off with drinks. I really enjoyed the cab franc that they had available by the glass. Good red fruit and earthiness that goes well with any protein-based meal. Mixed drinks around the table were very good as well. Really interested cocktails on the menu. Then we got into the small plates. I don’t remember the order in which we had them, so I’ll just type off what I remember from memory. The chorizo scotch egg was a bit of a mess to me. The soft boiled egg was cooked beautifully, but the chorizo that encompassed it tasted way off from a texture standpoint. I wouldn’t call it mealy, but it was looser than what I expected. The accompanying pecan mole was outstanding. One of my favorite dishes of the night was the asparagus salad. No one else around the table was really crazy about it, but I found it vibrant and fresh. There was duck confit pappardelle that the table went wild for. I thought it was good, but a little too smoky/dark. I thought it could have used a final dash of salt to liven it up a little bit and let the sauce stand out more against the heaviness of the duck. Made this observation at the table, was admonished and told that I could just use a salt shaker. Whatevs, not a fan of seasoning my own plate. I like to think that what I’m tasting is precisely what the chef intended to send out. Pork buns — awesome. Messy and spicy, just the way I like it. Real sriracha added additional heat. Big fan. There was a duck breast dish that I don’t remember that well. Good, but I’ve recently had better. Risotto was okay, it threw me off at first as I could have sworn they added coconut milk to it or something. The rest of the table suspected that it was the unique oil they used that added a sweet element. Hard for me to assess as I was completely caught of guard. I had another spoonful, though. Scallops were enjoyed by the table. They were nice and thick with a decent sear. I like scallops, but they have to be thin with a nice crusty sear. To which I was told that I really don’t like scallops. Yeah, probably. This review is going a bit long. I really enjoyed the raspberry crème brulee and the table also loved the chocolate bread pudding. 3.5 stars, can’t round up. Will visit again.

3.5 If I complain enough maybe Unilocal will fill follow Untappd and finally add half stars. slow start, great end. Maybe we were there too early, as food improved as night went on. App of bacon wrapped dates. I don’t like dates, but bacon makes everything better, when used correctly… Fail: fatty bacon, and dates are obviously mushy, so yuck. Drinks: Really good. Oysters, good and slurpy. Fish and meat: heavy, tasty preparations. Gnocci with haibut was almost as good as Onesto. I liked the tiny piece of scallop Katie let me taste, rareity for me to like scallops. About the perfect preparation of bread pudding also to end the meal.
