Chubby’s Cheesesteaks

I liked the burger and cheesesteak. I feel the sampler is over priced for 2 mozz sticks 2 poppers 4 rings and 4 mushrooms

I’ve eaten here since day 1. Even had cheesesteaks delivered to UWM for my daughter.
The owner worked hard to open Chubby’s. He has great pride in this business and his passion for food shows. Not everyone will be pleased everytime.
However; I have enjoyed the great food and service. I have always requested provolone cheese instead of whiz and no one complained. I did try it on my sons chili cheese and yummm.
Bottom line always talk to the owner for issues. He wants to know.
Personally tonight my girls are ordering jalapeño poppers chicken strips mozzarella sticks I will prob try chicken n waffles… and who knows what the rest of the fam is ordering. But yeah…

This place had me waiting almost 2.5 hours for my delivery. When I called to see what was wrong the girl told me that the driver couldn’t find my place and just left. Didn’t call, didn’t look for it. The place isn’t even that good for all this hassle.

Called for delivery at 10:53 the guy that took my order said it should be about 15 minutes… was delivered at 11:53… The cheesecake sandwich may have been ok if I wouldn’t have to have warmed it up. The driver said he had a delivery on the west side of town… I’m not far from the east side location.

I can only speak for the cheesesteaks, cheese curds, and loaded tots, but the food is absolutely delicious. The only thing keeping me from a 5 star is that it is a bit pricey for the food they serve.

Chubby’s, you get my vote for worst food in MKE.
Possibly the worst food I have ever had in my life. Not to mention, the 20 minute wait for a single cheesesteak that was held by this gross barely edible bread.
Dirt cheap nacho cheese spread on top of a minimal amount of steak. I couldn’t even finish the food, it was so nasty. Ramon noodles is heaven, compared to what I had the fateful night I choose to dine at this establishment.
Oh, and to boot, and a homeless man going through the line, asking for money. What a comfortable feeling.
Sorry Chubby’s, I’ve had true Philadelphia cheesesteaks and what you serve to your customers. are not Philly cheesesteaks.

If you like being told by restaurant staff that they aren’t wrong, YOU are wrong, then by all means, order some food at chubby’s.
I ordered over the phone and had the food delivered (delivery man was nice and very speedy) and the service was fine. Once I opened the bag and realized that the chocolate ice cream that I had ordered was vanilla I called to see what they could do. They told me they don’t sell chocolate ice cream, only vanilla. So I specifically asked them why they told me they had chocolate and vanilla when I asked what flavors they had– «ok, I’ll get chocolate» should be a hint that I ordered something off menu (I spared them the sarcasm). HERE is where my problem was and why I am even leaving a review even though I never leave reviews – The male worker then began to tell me he never said that, why would he say that if it wasn’t on the menu and continued to talk over me and tell me I was wrong. Very rude. No apology, just s%#@ customer service. I’m all about service and treating people with respect so this really bothered me. Next time I think about ordering there I’ll just properly flush my $$ down the toilet. I’m sure it’ll be going to a better place

Yum. If you get the late night cravings this is the place.
Had a couple of incidents with phone staff that was rude as hell, in fact one female wouldn’t take my phone order. Said I had to come in person. No ma’am.
I order. You have it ready when I get there. I pay. I gnosh.
Only had rude service a couple times.
But I keep going back because for late night Belly fillers Chubbys Rocks.

The service was fair and the food was made quick, but the cheesesteak was not the greatest.
As other reviews say, the meat was on the salty side, but the worst part was the bread. The bread was not fresh or toasted so you got a day old bread that was not crisp on the outside and slightly stale on the inside. There wasn’t enough juiciness to the meat to compensate for the dryness of the bread.
The burger tasted better than the cheesesteak even though it was also a little dry and that is really sad coming from a place that specializes in cheesesteaks.
Overall, I much rather get a cheesesteak from Cousins Subs or Philly Way for a lot better flavor and price.

They say nothing good happens after 2 AM… not true if it involves Chubby’s Cheesesteaks. Best mistake ever.
PREFACE: We got into MKE at 1 AM, so by the time we were checked in and settled at the Courtyard Marriott in downtown MKE, it was close to 2 AM. Most kitchens were closed, much less within walking distance. We saw that Chubby’s was open until 2 AM so we made a quick call to confirm. Upon calling, we realized they were open until 3 AM and available for deliveries. Sweet!
DELIVERY: Loved the quick and easy online order delivery via Unilocal.The delivery guy even delivered our order directly to our room upstairs. Ordering after 2 AM, we didn’t expect the food to come until 3 AM, but it came much quicker than expected.
FOOD: I shared the Mushroom Swiss Cheesesteak and Nachos Supreme. Their cheesesteak was not was good as Nathan’s, but didn’t taste super oily or unhealthy at 2 AM, so I consider it a good decision. The nachos were good shared, but I would not be quick to recommend the chicken. While the chicken is small and bite-​sized and just lightly peppered, it didn’t seem to mesh well with the nachos. I liked most of the toppings on the nachos, except the lettuce, tomatoes, diced raw onions seemed like an odd choice for nachos. The cheese, jalapeños, and sour cream were spot on though.
Overall, I can see why Chubby’s has 3.5 stars, presumably for their food. It’s decent, but not great for fast food. What pushes my review to 4 stars is its ease of online delivery and pay system, the fact that their kitchen stays open until 3 AM, and that they deliver all the way up to our hotel room on the 4^th floor. Awesome x3.

Gotta say, I’m rather disappointed. I’ve eaten here multiple times before and had good service, even though I’ve only done delivery.
My boyfriend and I ordered through grubhub tonight, and our food arrived about 45 minutes before the time grubhub quoted, so that was great. But when my boyfriend opened his fries, he realized the cheese whiz he’d paid extra for was not there. Okay, I can see that mistake, I work in the food service industry as well… Small things are sometimes overlooked, and I know this. I didn’t have an issue until he opened his sandwich. He ordered a cheesesteak and lo and behold, no cheese whiz there either. However, the mushrooms that he added to the sandwich were there.
I looked at the printed kitchen ticket, and I saw that it did in fact say the fries should have had cheese whiz with them, and there was no indication that the cheesesteak should not have had cheese whiz.
Just a bit disappointing. The food is still great and this won’t stop me from ordering, but still. I don’t know if it was laziness on the kitchens part or what the case may be, but I’m disappointed this time. Sorry guys.

Pretty darn close to authentic also available in many variations. Local bread adds a good twist on a classic.

So, I know this is a cheesesteak place, and that’s usually what I go here for, always delicious, always leaves me satisfied. But today’s experience pushed my opinion of Chubby’s into overdrive. They have this huge menu, and they added all this new breakfast stuff. So now they have waffles, pancakes, steak & eggs, etc. But the star of the breakfast menu is the «Chicken & Waffle Sandwich» OMGOMGOMG. You get eggs, cheese, bacon and crispy chicken breast all nestled in the middle of a huge flavorful belgian waffle. I think im in love, lol!

Amazing sandwiches! The ordering process was fast and easy, the delivery came a lot faster than it stated it would, which is a total plus. The prices are fair, and the sandwiches were excellent. They were big, tasty and filled with meat and veggies. They are very generous with the amount of food you get, especially for the price. I will definitely be ordering again!

My first time coming to this place was when they first opened. I was greeted by a very welcoming gentleman that took the time to tell me how great his cheesesteaks are. A philly cheese steak connoisseur I was a bit hesitant on trying the «cheez wiz». I took his word of advice and tried it. Since I’ve tried it, it’s the only way I want to eat cheesesteaks!
Two things that are put offs are the pricing. A bit pricey for the size of the sandwhiches I’ve been to numberous places for cheese steaks and the rank on the pricier side. The other is every time I ask for anything special to be done they have an issue communicated it to the cook. Other than that they’ve been pretty awesome.
I can only speak for done in experiences because I am out of their delivery range… Until miller park location opens.
Try the fries too they are good!

Descriptive phrase: meh drunk food.
Pros: Open late. Deals well with drunk crowds. Food served hot and fast and in large quantities.
Cons: Their Cheesesteak ($ 7) was just not good. It was only cheese and steak on a bun, but it went wrong somewhere. The bread was delicious and soft and greasy, but the cheese was a bit gummy and the steak was gristle-​y and flavorless.
I won’t return for the food, but the service was nice and the place was clean.

Regular customer always have great food and good service. Kinda pricy but for $ 8 you get large portions and will be full

Back again with a Groupon. The portions here are huge! I split my sandwich with my daughter but I could have easily made a second sandwich with all of the meat that fell out of my mushroom swiss and steak sub. The hubby went for the buffalo chicken sub and loved it. The onion rings are huge and to die for. The meat was well seasoned and not greasy. Our GPS likes to get us lost when we go here but it’s right down the block from Melthouse Bistro and on the corner of Oakland and North. The place is very clean and the staff friendly.

I really want to like this place, after having some bad experiences at the other cheese steak place. Things started off on the right foot. When we entered, we were greeting with a smile and some help with our questions about the menu. They even let us make some topping substitutions, and gave good recommendations on what to order. Our server even pointed out that if we sent them a text we would get a free soda. Hey, I like free stuff.
The food… It was ok. We sampled a mushroom and whiz cheese steak, a philly chicken, and a buffalo chicken. They were all fairly good. Not fantastic, but not bad. For the price I thought the sandwiches were a good size. If I was having a serious cheese steak craving, I’d come back here over the other nearby option.
The only issue we had is that it was way too hot right off the counter. I had the usual burning of the roof of my mouth, which is what happens when you bite too hastily, right? But my boyfriend took a bite and within minutes a large blister formed on his upper lip, and it kind of tainted the experience. That’s not normal. Maybe we’re just not meant to have a great cheese steak experience in this town.

After my third experience with Chubby’s, I had to swear off this place for good.
First time: I was new to Milwaukee, and Chubby’s had been displayed prominently on Google for takeout in my neighborhood. I ordered the «Chubby’s Cheesesteak» for myself and something else for my girlfriend (I don’t remember what exactly, BBQ cheesesteak maybe? Doesn’t matter) and an order of fries. When the driver got there, the order was all messed up. We got two of the same sandwich and the fries were missing. To Chubby’s credit, they fixed this painlessly.
Second time: The order was right, but it took almost two hours to be delivered. The sandwiches were extremely greasy after sitting wrapped up for who knows how long?
The third and final time was shortly after I moved to Riverwest. After some time of indecisively sitting on Grubhub with my girlfriend considering our options we decided to give Chubby’s another shot. I ordered the Corned Beef Reuben and my girlfriend had ordered, I think, the 4-​Cheese Cheesesteak. The order came, once again, late (although it didn’t take two hours this time) and when it got there the delivery driver demanded payment. This would be pretty normal… except we had already paid by credit card through Grubhub. The driver was pretty adamant that we had not, but we showed him our confirmation email and finally he relented after calling the restaurant. I don’t know whether he was trying to pull a fast one or what, but it was an off-​putting experience to say the least.
We never did try them again. Three strikes and all that, you know? It’s been awhile, maybe a year or so since we last ordered from here, so take my review with a grain of salt. Hopefully they’ve shaped up.
The food wasn’t half-​bad and as long as you’re not ordering something unusual (like their shrimp basket, huh?) it looks like it’s a decent value for the money. It’s just a terrible shame that the experience has been so bad every time I’ve tried them.
