The sandwiches, lunch specials and bakery are good. The prices are decent. The people that work there are nice but ridiculously slow.

I absolutely love Grebe’s. It’s not fancy so if you’re wanting a hip bakery with beautiful pastries and cool clientele, this is not your place, but if you want comfort food, no frills donuts, hot ham and rolls, and random items at a good cost, check this out.

We’ve loved Grebe’s for many years. We ordered a custom cake/cupcakes combination for our daughter’s 8th birthday this year and we were very pleased with the results! Great work by a great team, all done at VERY reasonable prices. Nice job Grebe’s team!

I tend not to be a sweet breakfast kind of gal. In fact, I’ll pass on doughnuts most days. But, I ended up here on a rainy Saturday morning. The ladies inside were friendly and happy, although they looked like they could get a little gruff with you if you ordered something ridiculous. There wasn’t much of a wait. They have a great selection of sugary breakfast… doughnuts, cinnamon rolls, something called a Persian(but without nuts, and I’m now told they’re supposed to have nuts… but I liked mine better without nuts). There are also lots of cookies and cupcakes and plenty all decorated cute for the under-12 demographic. Prices were really good. I got 4 doughnuts and a loaf of French bread for about 5 bucks. They look to have hot ham and rolls on Sunday as well — will have to check that out. Remember how I said I didn’t like doughnuts most days? I inhaled at least two of the doughnuts within 5 minutes of getting home. Yum.

We went because it was really close and we just wanted a light lunch. Light lunch. And we left with lunch, four donuts, an entire cake, and a gallon of milk. We had to stop ourselves from adding a few cookies decorated like Hank(the Brewers’ dog). All of that came to $ 20, which we thought was really reasonable.(Especially considering milk was $ 3.50 since you are not buying it from a grocery store.) Everything was SOGOOD. All of it very fresh. The sandwiches were big, too. Some people have mentioned that the employees were rude. We didn’t find them to be rude. They were busy, and it is true that they kind of assume you are an insider and you know everything about the place, but we were offered help several times. The following didn’t make my experience bad(thus the five stars) but are good things to know going in: It’s primarily a bakery, and since we were there for lunch it was a little unclear at first what was available to order. They have hot options during the week, but not on the weekend. They have deli options Monday-Saturday. It just took us a minute to find that menu and to know what we could order. There was no inside seating, and there is no drive thru. Your only option is to go inside and take it home. :)

Best place to get Sunday hot ham and rolls! Go early to avoid waiting too long. I’m not a doughnut person, but my kid loves them :)

I only recently started going to Grebes, my fiancé told me about it and we stopped to get some hot ham and rolls for a party we were hosting. It was absolutely delicious and super affordable. We’ve been making it a weekly stop since.

Haven’t heard of this bakery before stopping at a local speedway gas station seeing the little Easter cookies they had for sale on a fuel stop run. Figure I’d get a cute turtle cookie(probably loaded sweet with sugar), I took a bite out of it and it was amazingly light not too sweet and DELICIOUS! I had to find this little bakery on its front cover! They offered same cookies there plus breads, deli meats and of course delicious pastries! I think I found a new love for another bakery I’ve found in the milwaukee area. Service was okay, our cashier was a young sweet girl who was cordial in asking if we needed assistance or questions. I could see why other reviews rated less stars but this bakery is amazing. The food is delicious the people who runs it they’re on a mission so don’t get in their way just know what you want, they’re not mean they just know how to make things run their way which in my opinion, the right way. Thanks for providing us with such an amazing place to get delicious foods Grebes! I’ll be back again! Check it out guys!

THEE best doughnuts in the city. Speedway gas stations carry them and they are a guilty pleasure of mine. This recent trip, however, involved a made to order liver sausage sandwich(another guilty pleasure!) and a darn tasty bunny sugar cookie. The staff is an all ages/walks of life medley of people who always make a trip there fun and friendly. You can’t beat it. This naughty little lunch of mine was just over 4 bucks.

Old school at its finest! Since I had the worst time getting a cake from the giant blue discount retailing monster, I stopped into Woodman’s in Menomonee Falls to see what my options were. The theme for my son’s second birthday was Thomas the Tank Engine Train. Luckily, the cake binder contained a Thomas cake, and it would be made by Grebe’s Bakery. Let me tell you, the cake was really good. I was not sure if I would like it because of all the colors and detail required to make the cake, but it came together nicely and it did not have the dyed to death taste to the frosting either. We went with chocolate cake, and it was moist and tasted fresh. A nod to the Grebe’s-Woodman’s business relationship: I am glad I stopped into Woodman’s who also accommodated me after the bakery was closed for the day! My order was taken, and I received a call the next day and was told my cake would be ready by Saturday. Now that is customer service!

What’s there to say, Milwaukee standard. Been coming here since I was 5. If you want fresh bakery-you go to Grebe’s especially on Sunday after Church.

I love this little place. I have only bought bakery here so I can’t comment on the rest. I recently started a job on the south side of Milwaukee and needed to get donuts for the staff. I figured there couldn’t be a better place on the south side than the Grebe’s bakery. It’s so typical south side(in all charming and positive ways) that I keep coming back. I love to people watch while I’m waiting for my bakery too. It’s this tiny little bakery that clearly has a steady stream of consistent customers that come in often. If you can sit back and enjoy all of the nuances that the south side has to offer, you’ll enjoy it! The donuts are great, prices are right, and they have a wide selection of bakery. While I was only there for donuts, they have the old fashion Yellow Smiley Face cookies that all kids love. I had to pick some up for my kids b/c it’s so old school great. One of my favorite things about them is that when I call for about 100 donuts, I am usually doing this about an hour or so before I come in. I don’t mean to be that rude and call so last minute, but I tend to forget until the morning of. They pull together an order so fast and don’t pause at my tardiness in requesting such a big order. Great for last minute thinkers like me. I will continue to go here and maybe I’ll try some non-bakery stuff as well!

South side legend! Growing up on the South Side of Milwaukee brings me back to Sunday ham and rolls from Grebes along with some if the best donuts in town. Nothing has changed. Great bread, cookies, cakes, donuts, and hot ham/rolls on Sundays. If you want a taste old the old days with great prices and great baked goods, Grebes is your jam!

Gosh, who doesn’t love a fresh doughnut?! Grebe’s will not disappoint. The honeymooners and cheese pockets are amazing. The hot ham is worth waiting in the long line for(make sure to take a number on Sunday!). I recently went here to get their Hank cookies. To. Die. For. The buttercream frosting was at least and inch thick and complimented the sugar cookie so well. Just so good. I pass Grebe’s on the way home from work and you can almost always get a whiff of the fresh doughnuts being cooked right around 5:30pm. Love it! My only complaint about Grebe’s is the customer service is spotty. It all depends on which lady helps you and what kind of mood they are in. Stopped here twice this week and got both bad and good service.

The deli potato salad must use a recipe from a 1950s cook book. Lots of egg yolks and mustard. You need a background check to purchase because, ITWILLMAKEYOUFARTBULLETS. The ONLYREDEEMING thing about Grebe’s Bakery is the kick ass vintage sign out front(see my photo). After photographing the Flickr out of the sign I went in to see what Grebe’s is all about. Walking through the door is like traveling in time back forty years. Flickering fluorescent tube lighting, gawdy Valentines decorations, empty shelves. Ordered a frosted sugar cookie, potato salad and cheese danish. The workers lived up to their stations in life(think fake tans, fake nails, fake blonde, serious rude attitudes). My wife asked for a small container of potato salad, the ONLYFUCKING potato salad in the deli case. The sassy worker was like«well which one!?», clearly being difficult on purpose. TASTED: The sugar cookie was inedible, with frosting tasting like pure shortening. The cheese danish tasted like lemon, dry, gross — like a convenience store pastry. POST: Take photos of the cool sign(which like the employees isn’t the brightest because it’s missing a lot of light bulbs) and skip whatever 1970s bull shit is going on inside. Think OPPOSITE of a place like Rocket Baby Bakery.

I’ve always been a huge fan of pastries and I’ve been subjected to Grebe’s donuts for years as a life long south sider. I’ve always thought they were a bit overrated. The chocolate long john tastes like they spread store bought frosting on a really big dinner roll. Definitely not my thing. These are the same donuts you find at local Speedway gas stations and while I pass up these donuts on most days, my young daughter loves their frosted smiley face cookies. So when the Speedway close by had no cookies to offer, I decided to be «SuperDad» and grab some cookies at the source. I walk in early Sunday afternoon and I’m hit straight in the face by the smell of hot ham. Instantly I decide that this trip will be for more than just mere cookies. I walk in and I don’t grab a number right away so I can decide what I want and maybe have some pastries that are not offered at the gas station. I pick out a few things, grab a number and get all my questions in order so I can be quick about things and not hold up the line. The bakery is laid out pretty well and has a lot to offer. It has that old time nostalgic feel that I absolutely love. It’s too bad the service doesn’t hold up. A woman in her late 40’s/early 50’s yells«11!» and I run up quick. I start her off by having her grab me the cookies, and while she grabs the cookies I ask her what flavor the turnovers are. You would have thought I had asked to borrow her car as she rolled her eyes and said«Apple!». While most turnovers are apple, I would hate to grab what I thought was an apple turnover only to bite into it and find out it is cherry. I figured I was being too much of a burden, so I told her I think I’ll only have the cookies today and walked out with a lot less than I was planning to. I understand that some people think that this type of rude behavior is «cute», but sometimes it’s ridiculous. I’d rather spend my bucks at the fifty other hardworking bakeries in the area that are happy to answer very simple questions about the products they offer.

I’ve got friends that have been telling me to go to Grebe’s for donuts for months. When a friend came into town, I saw the opportunity to get a box without my husband and I eating it all alone. Unfortunately, by the time I arrived, they’d sold out of several varieties of donuts. The ones we were able to get were delicious.

A must-stop for stollen fans. This place is so amazingly quaint and feels a bit like a blast from the past. In the past month they’ve provided me with a sheet cake with a picture on it and multiple stollens for my grandmother — which made her very, very happy. You used to be able to find Grebe’s in places like Super America gas stations and Sentry stores, but as those have disappeared, I’ve run out of places to look for Grebe products and have instead gone straight to the source. The ladies in the store are so nice and there’s always a case full of cookies, cupcakes and doughnuts so you end up leaving having purchased more goodies than you planned on. The cake I had the image put on was a slight bit of a head scratcher, as I provided a rather large image that was oriented to have the cake be more vertical than horizontal, but they shrunk the picture and it ended up being kind of small in the middle of the large, horizontal cake. But it still looked good and tasted great, so it really wasn’t a big deal. They are one of the few«discount» style places that will do a filled sheet cake, too, which its great and their prices were competitive with Sam’s Club and Pick N’ Save.

One of the highlights of living in our neighborhood is Grebe’s bakery. When we moved into our neighborhood this was one of the first places we were told to go. We are in luck that it is in walking distance. I try to make it my rule that I can only eat grebe’s IF I walk there, therefore counteracting some of the damage caused by baked goods. It has been mentioned that the behind the counter staff can be a little less then friendly, but I believe it adds to the charm. You get a «what’ya want hun» true Milwaukee style. If you are not prepared or ask too many questions you will get grimaced and sighed at but hey, no one complains at Cranky Al’s. Two things I like about Grebes… the donuts and the price. For cheaper then the local grocery chain you get higher quality. Probably higher fat too, but its a donut! I LOVE their honeymooner donut, it is my all time favorite. Second are their crullers. They also offer deli sandwiches and hot ham. And, my daughter would have you know… they give you(if you are a small child) a free cookie upon entering!
