Irie Palace

The food was good, but the attitude of the owner sucked. He told my wife and I never to comeback. We gladly said «ok» Because Uppa Yard was opening down the street. Uppa Yard food is better. Anyway, back to why we couldn’t comeback, we had a complaint, he didn’t want to honor us as customers, he said you are always complaining (which I am not) so you don’t have to comeback. Note to owner: honor you customer, the customer is always right and if you don’t want to go out of business, focus on your restaurant and not your failing music career. Btw, who hires a lady with a stutter to take orders? Well, he thought it was a good idea.

Limited menu — 10’ish items. 3 of the 5 items I tried to order were not available. What I did order, the jerk chicken and stewed chicken, both came with about a pound of beans and rice and some fully cooked cabbage.
The cabbage was as good as it comes and both chicken dishes were phenomenally seasoned and the chicken just fell apart. The jerk chicken was well-​seasoned but was not remotely spicy.
Ordered to go and service was fine and fast.

This is a nice little spot. I picked up some take out and it was awesome. I got the jerk chicken and a few beef patties and they’re both amazing. Good price and the food was rad. The chicken came with red beans and rice and it was just as I expected amazing.

I took my hesitant friend here (I ate here once before and had to return). After saying she was only going to eat one item on the menu, I laughed when her 3 plates were wiped clean. The food is amazing!

Being Trinidadian and raised in Miami, I did not think I’d find as good and affordable of a place as this in Milwaukee. You know it’s authentic when Jamaicans and West Indians eat there. I got their jerk chicken and beef patties, and next time I’ll try their curry shrimp.

Tried this place today. The other reviews were mostly accurate. The service wasn’t the greatest but not the worst either. The food was delicious, the place looked clean, and the decorations were cool. Wish they would’ve turned the tv off. Sounded a little strange listening to Bob Marley mixed with Anderson Cooper. Overall a quirky little place with great food and a neat atmosphere.

This place is incredibly good! I had the Jerk chicken, the curry goat, and the oxtail. every dish was mouth watery good. this is the krispy kreme of jamaican food. you just can’t stop eating.

The Jerk chicken was very spicy.
The oxtail was okay. The pattie was very dry didn’t enjoy that at all

Delicious. Brown stew chicken and jerk chicken goodness. The flavors are very much worth the trip.

OK Milwaukee, your ethnic food is getting better! This place is fine by me!!! Real Jamaican people are cooking the food. Once I heard the young lady’s accent, I knew I was in good hands, not to mention the smell of REAL JERK, and no I’m not talking about myself. ;)
I had the Curry Goat with rice and beans, with a side of TING. Hey the goat was tender and that stew/​seasoning was flavorful with authentic Jamaican allspice and curry. My only grip was that it was slightly over salted, not too much just slightly. But I still ate it because it was good.
Also had the Jerk Chicken which was great and spicy fresh off the grill like it’s supposed to be.

Simply put, flawless. Honestly, some of the best food I’ve had in the Milwaukee area.
Everything as far as the food and service were perfect.
Every couple of weeks a large group of people my fiancée works with goes to a different place to eat, and I tag along. This week, it was Irie Palace. I wasn’t sure about it when I first heard that it was on the agenda, becuse I had never even heard of the place and the neighborhood isn’t exactly on the radar of most people looking for great dining in Milwaukee.
People don’t know what they’re missing though.
The woman working there was so friendly and laid back. We didn’t feel rushed at all as we sat at our table with our menus waiting for our chronically late last two party members. She was chatty and attentive, but not at all overbearing. Above everything else, «laid back» is how I would describe the whole experience, actually. We were made to feel welcome and at home before we even ordered. Still, the woman working here worked her ass off to get all of our food out to us in a reasonable amount of time; for our group, I think she ended up making four or five trips from the kitchen to the table to get everything.
And the food, it was outstanding. They don’t serve everything on the menu every day so you’ll have to ask what’s available as you come in, but after my meal I’m pretty confident that there’s probably nothing on the menu that they could screw up. I had the goat curry, which had a very meaty, stew-​like taste to it. I sampled a bit of my fiancée’s oxtail stew, which was also very good. I also tried a bit of someone’s brown stew chicken which was similarly great. Several people ordered jerk chicken, which I didn’t get to try, but it looked so amazing. Each meal was served with a side of vegetables (shredded cabbage, carrots, etc), a couple of fried plantain slices, and rice and beans. Most dishes seem to be served bone-​in, so you get a great marrow-​ey flavor with the dish.
They also have a pretty healthy selection of obscure sodas and other drinks at reasonable prices. Ginger beer, Ting, and stuff like that is available. Personally, I stuck to water, but it was neat to see some stuff you don’t see every day.
I honestly can’t speak highly enough. This is a true hidden gem on Milwaukee’s north side. If you ever find yourself up that way, the quality of food is right up there with some of my other favorites in the area, like Ono Kine in Wauwatosa or Bombay Sweets on the South Side.
Come to think of it, those places have a lot in common. Fantastic, no-​frills niche food in large portions without any pretension of being what they’re not and at reasonable prices. If only every restaurant adopted that format, I’d be a happy man.
Try Irie Palace. You won’t be disappointed.

Jerk chicken– yum! This is a fun little place– and a lot of Jamaicans seem to hang out at the make-​shift bar. Everyone was really friendly and the food was great.

I’m so excited about this place! Who would have known that such a great little restaurant could be hidden is such a sketch looking strip mall. I’ve literally driven past this place hundreds of times and never even noticed it. I joined the ‘adventurous eating group’ at work and this was the next place on their list (it has conveniently been in my bookmarks too for quite some time so I was looking forward to finally trying it).
Six of us came for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon and there was only one other person in the restaurant. The staff is definitely on what I would call ‘island time’. Our server was friendly but had a more laid back attitude (read slow) than I’m used to. In other words, this is not the place to eat if you’re in a rush.
That being said — the food was faaaantastic. I had the jerk chicken and I was a little worried that it would be super spicy but it was literally the most perfect piece of grilled chicken I’ve had in awhile. Flavorful, nice grilled crust on the outside, juicy on the inside, just the right amount of spice where you can feel it but still taste the flavor of the marinade they used. YUM. The entrees come with a side of rice and beans and a plate of some sort of wilted cabbage & fried plantains. Delish. I dumped my excess sauce from the jerk chicken over the rice and beans — best idea ever.

Just got back from Irie Palace. While it’s not the best Jamaican food I’ve had (but to be fair, the only Jamaican food I’ve had has come from a friend’s kitchen) this food is passable. I got the curry chicken. While I’m used to curry chicken that is fall off the bone with the curry cooked through to the bone with plenty of gravy — this was far from that kind of curry chicken. It almost seemed rushed and not cooked slow and long (as slow as the service was, you would think they also took that much time to cook the food). The rice and peas were a little overcooked but the bread pudding was excellent (you could really taste the rum). I would go back in hopes that tonight was an off night. Besides, it the only place in town.

Setting: Reggae music with bright colored room, floral tablecloths, and wood dividers. Mis match dishware with some asian bowls thrown in. Most likely from the asian market next door.
Service: Welcomed, seated, took order, payed at the counter, and good byes. Not much interaction. Never came to check on us or refill water. Wouldn’t say rude just very laid back and off hands. I came with my brother. This was his first time dining in. He always get carry out. So just don’t go expecting world class service. Then your good.
Food: Most dishes come with the bone attached. The Brown Stew Chicken and the Oxtail were rich in flavor and tender. The side of bean and rice is bland but perfect to soak up all the extra juicy sauce from the entrée. Didn’t want any of that going to waste. The shredded cabbage and fried plantain add some nice sweetness to the meal and palate cleanser. I also got a cup of the Chicken Soup. Did really know what to expect since there was no description on the menu. It had huge chunks of tender chicken, potatoes, carrot and maybe a dumping. Couldn’t tell if it was potato or not with it’s texture. A whole lot of herb action with a almost thick broth. Quite excellent.
Saw when paying they have a broad with specials that our waiter didn’t tell us about. Entrees range $ 10 – 15 and that includes the rice and cabbage dishes. A word of warning my brother has gotten the Jerk Chicken a few times and it has been on the dry side on times.

I really enjoyed my dining experience at Irie Palace, the aura and atmosphere of the restaurant is very relaxed and makes you feel at home. The waiters have a pleasant casual attitude towards service which comes across as very genuine and sincere. The food is tasty and fresh, and priced quite reasonably; I would highly recommend Irie Palace.

Stopped in for lunch last Friday. Had the Brown Stew Chicken. The broth had a deep, rich flavor. I spooned it up and poured over the red beans and rice. YUM! The meat pie still evades me. I’ll have to call ahead next time and make sure they have them before I make the trip.

What is the draw here? well, what it should be. Jamaican food. period.
The ambience and style of the place, don’t even worry about it. It’s the peasant style big portion, slow cooked in some back room pot meat dish that will knock your socks off. Personally the ox tail is to die for. Meat and bone chewing goodness. Swallow it down with some nasty ass over sugarized knock off soft drink and you have the real island experience in the palm of your hand.

I have been meaning to try Irie Palace for roughly two years now and when I finally made it I was not disappointed!
I ordered the jerk chicken dinner and it was spectacular. The chicken was extremely moist and had the perfect amount of heat. I would compare the heat to that of a mild jalapeño. The dinner came with rice and cabbage.
My fiancée had the curry chicken which came with cabbage and a rice with beans. Minus one extremely spicy bite, she said the curry was milder than most (but she is am aficionado of super hot food). She also called the curry sauce «brothy» and feels bread would be a better companion than rice.
The atmosphere was wonderful. Very bright with reggae music playing in the background and a lively group of Jamaicans conversing at the bar. The walls are decorated with some photos of Bob Marley and ceramic parrots and lizards
I will not wait two years to go back and try the jerk shrimp… It’ll be more like two weeks.
