Where to start? This place is a bar but they shut down early at night, probably because business is slow. This is probably due to the waitstaff who are incredibly slow and rude. My card was charged way over what my bill was. Advice to someone thinking about going here. Don’t!

We were married 60 years ago and had our reception at the Green 7, on N. 7th and Green Bay Ave. A very nice place, but I had heard the building was torn down. Is this part of that old, nice place — just moved?

I went for a nice & tasty prime rib cut for a reasonable price with nice and attentive servers. Check, check, check and check. I’ll be back to enjoy it again in the near future!

I went there on a Friday, absolutely no one was there dining except for 5 guys sitting at the bar drinking. I am not picky with my food, but it was disgusting. I tipped the waitress because i felt bad that no one was there, but she was not that helpful at all, took her 15 minutes to go get me lemon wedges.

I’ve gone to Green 7 several times mostly to have a few beers with friends after work. I also order lunch once in a great while and it was pretty good. Overall a pretty good place to relax and great prices.

I had never been to Johnson’s before, but my wife and I thought we would give it a try since it is only a couple blocks away and they proudly boast that they were voted best fish fry in Milwaukee in 2009 and 2010. We arrived on a Friday night about 7:00PM. To get in the restaurant we had to go through several girls smoking right outside the door, and I literally mean next to the door, not 10 or 15 feet away from it. While I harbor no ill will towards smokers, the restaurant should restrict smoking right outside the door or designate an area in the parking lot. Once inside we realized we had to seat ourselves. There is no hostess, but that’s okay. This is just as much a bar as it is a restaurant. The waitress, who was rather quirky, was quick to take our order. So far, so good. We both ordered award-winning fish fry. The food came very quickly, but what arrived at our table didn’t look like any cod fish fry that I had ever seen. Odd looking squares of fish that had been battered and deep fried were accompanied potato pancakes, apple sauce and marble rye bread. The first thing I noticed about the fish was the batter wasn’t crunchy, which was strange because the fish was close to being dry and overcooked. There was also an odd flavor to the batter. Upon closer examination of the batter coating, I noticed both light and dark areas, as if parts of the batter were overcooked and the majority of the batter were undercooked. This may be a result of not changing the oil in the deep fryer regularly. If the oil isn’t changed it begins to break down and won’t fry foods properly. Perhaps that oil hasn’t been changed since 2010 when they were last voted best fish fry. The rest of the meal was okay. The potato pancakes were good; my wife’s french fries arrived with zero salt on them. Any cook should know that fries need to be salted immediately after being pulled from the oil. The apple sauce probably came from a jar; it was okay. The bread was also acceptable, but I don’t think that they are baking it there. After paying the bill and telling each other we would never be back, we opened the door to leave. The woman that we had seen tending the bar earlier was standing immediately outside the door smoking. What a shame. I was hoping for a little diamond in the rough in my neighborhood. This place needs a management change.

The food here never disappoints! My fiancé and I have brought many of our friends here and everyone has loved it. The prime rib was amazing and perfectly cooked. The breakfast is a winner every weekend. I’ll admit that the service is less than spectacular but the food and prices really make up for it. Our usual waitress wasn’t in today and I missed that, she is very brisk and almost down right rude but you never get low on your drinks and the food comes fast, she really knows what she is doing when it comes to making sure her customers have everything they need.

I wanted to like Johnson’s Green 7 more because it’s a small corner bar and restaurant not too far from where I live. We’d been there for a fish fry a few years ago, and although we remembered the fish fry as good, we were too engulfed in smoke the whole time to want to go back. Since we knew there’d be no more smoke this time, we decided to give Johnson’s another chance. We came for a Friday night fish fry a few weeks ago. This is definitely a local kind of place, filled with regulars at the bar, older people playing slot machines, and a few families and couples. The place was about half full, not bustling, but not dead. We both ordered cod fish fries. They offer a junior fish fry for a couple bucks less with just one less piece of fish. It’s a good price, but still filling. Our fish fries came out and well, they looked and tasted a little disappointing. I wish I had taken a picture, because the fish was just odd looking. The fish was square-shaped, a little burnt, and just looked unappealing. It tasted fair. The sides were the best part. My potato pancakes with applesauce and my husband’s waffle fries were both good. The fish fries also come with dark rye bread & butter and coleslaw. Our waitress was friendly enough and I have no complaints about the service. Prices are good, although I was disappointed to see they charged for soda refills. Everything about Johnson’s Green is below average to average, including their fish fry. Since there are so many better options for fish fries in the Milwaukee area, we won’t be back.

I’ve only ever had the fish fry and love that they offer perch, smelt, cod and a shrimp combo. The service is terse and abbreviated, but that’s to be expected on a Friday night when the place is packed to the gills. The price is right and the fish fry is worth returning for.
