I have no major complaints about this restaurant, but also nothing to rave about. Essentially, we go here because it is close to home, and the prices are more affordable than El Fuego(which is, in my opinion, the best Mexican restaurant in town but quite pricey) I usually end up ordering a combo platter, and the food is your standard tex-mex. You get two types of salsa before your meal. Word of caution, they will charge you an extra $ 1 for a side of sour cream(which to me seemed extreme for a Mexican restaurant) the interior is dark, and as some other people mentioned, a bit gloomy. Every time we have gone it has been sparsely attended, though we seem to pick the unfortunate times where there is always a very loud family having an obnoxious laughing fit nearby. In sum, this is not a place to go if you want the best Mexican food, but it is an option if you live nearby and do not want to pay an arm and leg to eat at El Fuego.

I’ve been here three times now, twice I just sat at the bar and had the free tacos when you spend $ 6 at the bar. Had both a regular and strawberry margarita. Those were pretty plain Jane. Sat down in the Resturant the other time and the food was fresh and fast. The rice and beans were better that many places and the rest of the food was fairly typical for Maexican here. Chips were good but the salsas were bland. The funny part was my dad ordered the chorizo and eggs but the waiter came back saying they were out of chorizo… lol how does that happen.

Pretty bland overall. Chicken chimichanga and burrito were salty. Margaritas were nothing special. Not much steak on my steak taco. Horchata was decent. Rice tasted authentic. Don’t think I’ll be back here though.

Run, don’t walk away from this place! Their only redeeming quality was their salsa-although we mixed the two they gave us together to get a better blend. My margarita was so horrible. It may just be the worst margarita I have ever had. They have to use a syrupy mix and it’s just gross. We even upgraded to one of our preferred tequila’s, Don Julio, and it still tasted like crap. I’m not even sure if there was tequila in it, or if the crappy mix just covered everything up. If a Mexican restaurant can’t make a margarita, there is a problem! I had the chicken chimichangas and my husband had the enchiladas. He thought his meal was okay, but nothing special. My chimichangas were soggy and full of crappy chicken-the greasy, gross kind. They served it with some kind of «salsa» that resembled vomit or diarrhea. It was disgusting. The rice had an odd flavor. It was inedible. My husband thought the beans were pretty gross, and those are one of his favorite parts of a Mexican meal. We live a few miles, but we won’t be back. There was nothing redeemable about this place. I have no positives. There are much better Mexican restaurants in Milwaukee.

Best fajitas in Milwaukee ! I love coming here! This truly is a little gem! I’m treated well every time. I have not been to the other locations just this one. The staff is friendly and this place has become one of my favorites!

Great neighborhood Mexican restaurant! As many times as I have driven by and said«I should try them» — finally did tonight on the whim. 8pm on a Friday night and I couldn’t find parking… I was intrigued as to what was going on. I walked in and there’s a live band that is playing Elvis cover songs. Totally unexpected but entertaining. Ordered a large margarita on the rocks and loved it! It’s huge and can be a meal by itself! Lol. The table ordered a variety of things, but I got the steak fajitas and I have to say it’s the best I’ve had. The meat was marinated with so much taste and so delicious! The guacamole that came on the side was tasty as well. Will absolutely come back and try more of the menu. Four meals, 3 large margaritas, and dessert was only $ 75!

Based on the low reviews, and consensus that the steak fajitas and hot salsa are good, I ordered the two. The meat was definitely tender, plenty of veggies, some guacamole and salsa, the serving size was large, and the service was good. The reason for the three stars is that the fajitas were too salty, the rice overcooked, and the beans were bland. The guacamole wasn’t impressive either. Everything combined into a tortilla made an edible dinner, but this is not a restaurant that I would go back to, other than to get some more of their hot salsa. I’m not a fan of cilantro, and I thought that this was one of the best tasting salsas that I’ve had. My guess is that it was essentially lime juice, crushed chilies, tomatoes, and salt.

Still a fan overall, but have been a little less impressed lately. Their house margaritas are bad. Paying the extra money for them to use a real tequila is necessary. Also, their dishes could use some flavoring. I got a chicken taco for the first time and there was zero seasoning on it. I went with a soft corn tortilla and it was just soggy and gross. The enchilada was good and their chimichangas are my favorite, but everything else falls a little short and could use some extra seasoning.

If you know me, you know that I can be cheap. Cheap with a capital C. I try to save where I can so I can also spend when I want to, like on traveling, nice heels, a pretty handbag just like most girls. Now I started by saying I was cheap, and I say that because we tried this place only because we found a «Buy One Get One» coupon for dinner, and I can resist a lot of things, but coupons and Mexican Food, neither of those can I resist very easily. I took 2 photos, I wish I had taken one of the chips & salsa too, as they served two types of salsa, one mild and one was somewhat hot, and baby I like it hot! They were generous with the chips & salsa as well, we got a second basket to munch on without even asking, and then our food was brought out, by a very friendly server I might add. You know servers can be hit or miss, even when the food is great, but this time was a hit and he checked on us just enough, but not too much. I gravitate somewhere between check on me, but don’t hover, you know what I’m talking about. Those severs that come back when everyone is on their second bite, and you’re thinking sheeesh just let me eat in peace, haha. So yeah, it was not that type of service… My burrito was HUGE! Please see the pic, I seriously had to take ½ with us! Of course I fit some chips & salsa into my to-go container too! ;) I’m giving 4 stars because the place does look a little older, but I still liked the overall experience & I definitely wouldn’t call it a hole in the wall. Although, I’m not one to knock a hole in the wall either, usually those places have good eats & solid drinks.

Chips and salsa were average. Margaritas made from syrupy mix. Steak tacos were awful. The steak was in a fine dice therefore no flavor. Asked if I wanted cilantro and onion or lettuce and tomato. Why not all? No sour cream. Service was ok.

After living in Tucson for the last 1.5 years, I had a mexican food withdrawal. Looked for something close to my new apartment. Gave this a try the other day and was disappointed. Food was not bad but nowhere near Tucson standards. Had the steak fajitas and a margarita. Steak fajitas were not bad but the limited amount of guacamole and pico de gallo was a disappointment. Not enough to last through 2 wraps. Beans were cold and the rice was dry. left both of those. No kick to the margarita. Seemed watered down and the mix was flat. Will give this place another chance in the future with lower expectations.

I think some just say things to get attention. I think emily is one of those people. The food here is NOT over priced in fact it is very reasonable. The portion size is right on. I have had almost everything on this menu and have never been disappointed. I love this place.

Love this place. Chips and salsa are the tops. Combination fajitas are the best I’ve had. Margaritas are tasty and pack a bit of a wallop. Friendly staff, and fair prices as well. A once a week stop for my wife and I.

Two thumbs down! I hate wasting money and that’s what happened here. Way too expensive for mediocre at best lunch. One star for the chips and salsa. The restaurant itself is filthy and extremely outdated. The staff had zero personality. Tell you what I really think? Yes, never open the Front door.

I had Los Mariachis bookmarked for the longest time. We were in the area today and decided to take it off my «to try» list. From the outside, I thought I was in for a exceptional experience. The inside is very dark and lit by red and green lights. Maybe let over from the Christmas season? There were no windows either. The bar was large, which is good. But the focal point was a dance floor that took up 1⁄3 of the restaurant. Did I just land lunch at a club? Granted there wasn’t DJ Pauly D spinning, but it was out of place. Clearly their money maker lies during dancing hours. After sitting down at a table with fake flowers that needed a good pitch to the can, we were greeted by our server. I still don’t know why they had his name laminated and placed at the end of our table. I’ve never seen that done before, but whatever. The menu was full of the Mexican staples found on most menus. I went with my chicken enchiladas. They were smothered in red sauce and cheese and full of white chicken breast. My entrée could have been hotter(as in the temperature). Prices were on the higher side. Twelve bucks for enchiladas in this place was laughable. I would have been fine with eight or nine. Then the kicker was when I asked for sour cream and got charged $ 1.50. But, the place was a dive bomb. It needs major repairs and some TLC. The inside is not representative of the outside. Turn on the lights! But then again, maybe I really don’t want to see what the place really looks like. I’ll just leave it at that. Would I go back? No. It wasn’t impressive enough. There are a lot of other options in the area that can promise a better experience.

I remember when they first opened, we were regulars. Great food and huge portions for the money. As time wet on, prices went up and portions and quality went way down. Fast forward to present day… New owners for a while now and you really won’t see tons of change. Menu has a good selection. Bar area has been updated and they offer happy hour specials. These specials are only about $ 0.50 off though so not really something to rush in for. They offer a free taco bar during happy hour and that is pretty nice to munch on while drinking your margaritas. Saturday nights they have live music and dancing and we stumbled across it by accident but glad we did. Seems it’s quite the hot spot even though we were the youngest ones in there — still had lots of fun. If you get there before 8pm you can skip the cover charge. Food was good, service was so so. After we were done with our meal our waitress disappeared and we had to continue to order our drinks by going to the bar. Felt pretty dropped at that point. Overall, if you are looking for a fun place to check out on a Saturday night to hear live music and get some dancing in — definitely check it out.

Absolutely, hands down, my favorite mexican restaurant. The building exterior interior are kind of shady looking so the first time I came, I wasn’t expecting much. To sum up the food in one word: fresh. The chips and fresh salsa are some of my favorite as well. The hot salsa isn’t as hot as I’d like but still has a good spice to it. The steak fajitas are A M A Z I N G. Their steak is soooooooo flavorful ! The flour tortillas I think are handmade there… they definitely didn’t come out of the refrigerator. The cheese they give you for the fajitas is freshly shredded right from a block of cheese. I always very much enjoy the enchiladas. Combined with those incredible tortillas, the cheese and sauces of the enchilada are fantastic. I echo Gabriel P’s review that the food is savory and they use upper level ingredients as opposed to processed foods.
