It sort of pains me to rate Mc Bob’s with a 3 star. My main reason for this is due to an order that I had received, which was for takeout. It contained 1 appetizer, which were chicken tenders. Price point I believe, was $ 6.25. These were was just awful. I mean over fried breading, undercooked, tiny morsels of chicken… at least I hope it was chicken. Not really so sure anymore… Had also ordered the super lunch fish fry combo. I had heard so many good things about their fish fry, that I couldn’t wait to try it. Well, I tried it, and trust when I say that that’ll never happen again. I am beyond disappointed! I still can’t believe that this was something any respectful restaurant would pass off as food. And let’s not even go into the price of the meal. Utterly ridiculous! The fish was overly seasoned(and this is coming from someone who loves her salt) and fried way too hard. And Lawd have mercy, talk about tiny little Perch piece. All wrinkly & pathetic looking. There was a piece of Walleye as well, that was equally as bad. Most of the meal went untouched. Potato pancakes which I included a picture of were greasy, but I still managed to choke 1 of them down. Now saying all of that, I’m certainly not recommending that people stay away from Mc Bob’s, because their corned beef(the Ruben in particular) just can’t be beat. I mean they’re on the level of Jakes on North. And that’s quite the compliment. But if you’re going to go, just stick with those menu items. One last note: my take out bag did contain plenty of napkins & plastic cutlery. The extra tartar sauce that I had requested was there. Tiny cup of applesauce for the pancakes was included. & delicious, even though you really can’t mess that up, LOL.

When my daughter lived in Milwaukee, she discovered McBob’s, and it is now a MUST any time I visit. Corned beef lovers’ eyes glaze over on their first bite. People who are indifferent about corned beef become converts after a taste. This is not thin-sliced stuff, this is chunks of lean meat, not in the least salty, best described as buttery.

Always good food and dirt cheap but tonight my beer was not cold, my burger was overcooked but yet tasty and my fiancé’s meatloaf was flavorless and cold… bummer

Amazing corned beef!!! Must try the Irish spring rolls(corned beef deep fried on a wonton wrap). It looks scary on the outside, but it’s all about the food on the inside!

While we were waiting for a table, this very rude women kept screaming behind us MOVEEXCUSEMEMOVE, we were not in her way at all. The drinks were very weak, we asked for old fashioneds and they didnt even know how to make them. The drinks tasted like they had no alcohol in them. The service was very very slow. The prime rib was all fat, no real meat. I was so disapointed after hearing great times.

Had wanted to stop here for a while. After living in the UK, we’re always on the lookout for a good Irish pub. My son was in the mood for cottage/shepherds pie so we were excited it was the dinner special for the night. Unfortunately, it wasn’t really Shepherd’s pie… It was really Irish stew with mashed potatoes on top. The flavor was good but not at all what we expected nor wanted, hence the three stars. If you’re going to call something by a classic name, you need to make sure it resembles the actual dish or be sure the staff tells people that it’s a take on but not the actual traditional dish. Atmosphere is good as was the service. We will come back and try something else.

McBobs had become one of my favorite places in town for breakfast/brunch on Sunday. The McBobs Benedict is amazing! If your a fan of corned beef you defiantly have to try it! The servers Cindi and Gil are just another added bonus, keep up the good work guys!

This place is pretty hilarious! I mean, it’s a scottish/irish themed restaurant with american bar food offerings like chili on the menu. The food is greasy and satisfying. It’s bar food done pretty well! but I wouldn’t expect much more than that. The scotch eggs were a little disappointing in my opinion just a little lack luster and dry. The beer selection is surprisingly not that great. I mean, its all your average wisconsin stuff so by average standards, it’s pretty awesome but for wisconsin, it’s average. I will also add that the service wasn’t really that impressive. They seem kind of disorganized they don’t like coming back to your table if you don’t know what you want. It doesn’t help that the menu is kind of confusing. There’s lots of stuff that’s only served on certain days at certain hours and it’s kind of hard to figure it out if you’re unfamiliar. This is definitely the kind of place where they favor regulars who are familiar with the menu and can make up their minds as soon as they sit down.

I went here with a friend who suggested this place. It’s an Irish pub but it doesn’t look like a traditional Irish pub. It looks like a normal bar that has Irish food. The menu had a lot of options and wasn’t sure what to get. I got the Highlander which is a burger with corned beef, swiss cheese, and horseradish mustard. YUM! This was so delicious and was full from eating half of the sandwich. I would like to go here again when I’m in the Milwaukee area.

Great food good service. A Cheers kind of place! Took Chris there after a flea market at State Fair Park. Her first time– a little noisy for her at first but after some beer she was fine. I have wasted a Monday or two with my niece, Bobbie and her friends before. Went for late breakfast and stayed the day. Chris and I had great sandwiches for a late lunch. Cleared out some by the time we left for the Korean food market across the street!!! A bonus place. We will be back to both in Uptown!

Folks, this is an Irish Pub, if looking for wings, fish tacos or other non Irish fare dine somewhere else. The corned beef, in all its mouth watering goodness, cannot be beat! The burgers are thick & juicy and served on flakey buttery buns that make these burgers some of the best in town. I hear their evening taco specials are notable but why would anyone go to an Irish Pub for tacos?! Seriously? I haven’t tried em because their core food offerings satiate my interests. The atmosphere is akin to traditional Irish Pubs everywhere and include many Irish themed decorations with family crests adorning the walls. It has a timeless & welcoming feel. The folks here are salt of the earth and unpretentious. Overall, this place ROCKS!

I’m sure that this restaurant is like heaven for some people. I have had food from here when I was a kid. A corned beef sandwich to be exact. This place is good for that and that only. Well maybe beer and whiskey as well. The inside was a normal old school dive bar, no frills, no sparklers. The waitress was excellent she defiantly had some spunk. Its kinda dark inside and the bar area could get a little cramped as we same upon leaving. Another thing to note is that the menu has items that are only offered certain times and days. Some of the things that we wanted to order on the menu were not available. So we settled with the chicken wings, pizza, Philly cheese steak and the Cajun chicken sandwich. I was worried because the waitress told me that they didn’t have a deep fryer. I asked for french fries she says no american fries. After she left i began to think how am i gonna get chicken wings if there is no deep fryer? All of the sandwiches or platters come with a pickle and plain potato chips. The food came promptly. One of the guys assisting the waitress with the plates tilted the plate and spilled some chips from one of the plates. Yes right on the floor he looked at it and walked off. Never came back to pick it up. I dont know if he expected us to pick it up? Either way it was rude and im sure unsanitary. The food was all OK except the pizza was horrible as my daughter told me. The chicken wings I ordered were so dam bland it was ridiculous. I put a pound of salt on them. The BBQ sauce was house made and guess what? It had pieces of bacon in it. They didn’t have any BBQ sauce that didn’t have bacon in it. I don’t eat beef or pork so that was not welcome on my food. The Philly cheese steaks were standard as well as the Cajun chicken sandwich. Would i go back? No. Or unless I start back eating red meat again, which ain’t gonna happen. For a long day of work and you wanna grab a pint, Mcbobs is the place for you. Maybe Jake’s is closed you have a hankering for a corned beef sandwich, well then Mcbobs is the place for you.

McBob’s has been on my radar for some time. We recently had their food at Irish Fest(it was good), but I regret not getting here sooner. I could eat my weight in corned beef, and I’ve probably done it a few times(it may take me a week or so, and you don’t wanna be near me when I do). I ordered a Reuben(it’s got horseradish instead of thousand island). It’s toasted and has sauerkraut and Swiss cheese. Wow! Salty, tangy goodness. My wife got corned beef on marble rye. Both came with chips and a pickle spear, but more importantly, they had a generous mountain of tender, tasty, well brined corn beef. Not tough, not fatty. Both were good. I know, because my wife couldn’t finish hers, so I did. We came here on a weekday after the lunch rush. I got a free tap(spotted cow) with my entrée, thanks to my Unilocal check in offer! The beer was good, no bad taste from dirty beer lines. I ended up having another beer(after 3p.m.) and, surprise! Happy hour! I got a ticket for another free tapper. I get excited over happy hour because I rarely get to enjoy it due to my work hours.
We parked on a side street about a half block away; I don’t know if they have off street parking. Service was A+, friendly, and attentive. The rest of the staff was friendly too, and we chatted them up a bit. We’re not regulars, but we felt welcomed. McBob’s is definitely a good value; much better than that other place owned by the same folks that own the local sports teams. I’m not a morning person, and I rarely go out for breakfast, but the McGinnity sounds really, really good. I’m definitely motivated to get up early for a Saturday breakfast, with a couple of beers of course! Get here for some corned beef, you won’t be disappointed. We’ll be back for sure!

I was so ready to give McBobs a fiver. It was everything you want on a Sunday afternoon. service was relaxed, sure, but so were we. They were busy so we made a day of it. But… We came in wanting a crisp cold beer, nothin fancy. We ordered two draft Miller Lites(because summer) and found there was a tap takeover by New Holland. All IPAs they said. Pick one for each of us, we said. Or you could do a flight, he said. Sounds great! We said. A flight of seven was exciting, a tasting menu and all. We chatted with some staff about preferences, devoured shared nachos and a Reuben(Delish, but you didn’t need me to tell you that.) even ordered another pint of a fave IPA. We’d clearly been done for about 20 min, and had told the server as much, but finally decided to head inside and pay the tab at the bar. Our server was bellied up; fine. Happy Sunday. But the other fella seemed a bit annoyed that we came and asked to settle up. Guys… The flights were $ 20 each. $ 40 for two flights. These weren’t larger than average tasting glasses. My guess is each was 4 oz. twenty bucks? Forty, when we came in for two miller Lites? We do love a well done beer and will certainly pay, but my goodness, no heads up? No price to be found until the end? A lovely afternoon turned grumpy as we left what we wanted to be our new fave spot. It’s like meeting a new friend who is so chill and just gets you and you make plans for next weekend but then when leaving he drops the N word or calls something retarded… You just get… Sad. I thought we understood eachother! You have betrayed me, McBob. Also we had the«check in and get a free pint» coupon thing and forgot to use it which is totally on me but now that We paid $ 40 for two flights which could’ve been 4 stellar six packs at Rays and an excellent night… I feel even more sad about the pricey flights. Actually sad. My bottom lip is sticking out. I didn’t want it to be this way! I had plans for us, and now you’ve made me pout.

After hearing good things(especially about their brunch), I was excited to try McBob’s. While their menu has some pretty fun/interesting options on it, we were disappointed at best. Went a little before noon for a late Saturday brunch. Got in and the place was maybe half full, so we got seated right away, figured we’d be good to go. Waiter had waters/menus to us right away… And that was the last we saw of him. About 20 minutes later, we finally manage to hail down another waiter. At that point a few more tables around us had filled up and they all already had drinks/orders taken by then(even though they arrived well after us). New waiter we had grabbed took our order… And that was the last we saw of him, too. After almost 35 minutes(when those several tables who had arrived after us had already eaten/drank/paid/left), we were ready to walk out(which I NEVER do, but all we had at that point were waters so we wouldn’t be skipping on a bill or anything) when a THIRD waiter finally brings us our food. Which was sub-par. We had both ordered some sort of eggs benedict, the eggs were actually pretty well hardboiled. There was no real flavor to any of it. So it took almost an hour to get an overdone, tasteless egg. I’m sure if we had come just for drinks at the bar, McBob’s would’ve been fine. Was so disappointed by the experience though that I’m not willing to give them another try any time soon. I’ll leave it to the die-hards fighting over the corned beef.

By reading other Unilocal reviews it seems that the choice for Rueben’s in Milwaukee belong to McBob’s, Benji’s and Jake’s. First of all I have not been to Jakes’s(yet), but I would like to throw my hat in the ring for my thoughts on the other two. I have been to Bengi’s twice and now McBob’s and I found my Rueben Sandwich to be better at McBob’s. My sandwich was tender, juicy and packed with meat. I enjoyed the saltiness of the brine and the constancy of the marbled rye. The sandwich was one of the better I have had. Benji’s is good too, but I found it a bit smaller and a little drier. Bread was better here too. The rest of my experience at McBob’s was pretty average. The Bloody Mary’s looked awesome, but it was a work day and I had to settle for a diet Coke.(Which was flat). I ordered the American Fries with my meal and they were kind of blah. I guess I would skip the side and order soup next time, or better yet come in and try the breakfast(before 11am). And don’t forget the Bloody!
