Patrician Apartments -Schulhoff Management

This place isn’t so bad if you don’t mind waking up to the smell of fermented vomit. Kidding, sort of. I lived here for 2 years and didn’t really mind it too much. The neighborhood is definitely a little more sketch than most Marquetters are used to, but I never had any problems with the locals.
The only issues we ran into were with management — Ogden & Company was entirely negligent to any complaints or questions we had about our apartment. I must have asked for a key to the laundry facility 30 times, and I never got one. Eventually someone just broke the door and propped it open. But that didn’t seem to matter much because the washing machines didn’t work anyways.
I also never got my security deposit back from Ogden. Those sons of bitches.

Patrician gets a –5 stars, if that were possible. Initially my experience with them began under Ogden management, and they allowed cats (technically 1, but they said that they’d let 2 cats slide), the management for the building was friendly, and the place had some charm.
Schulhoff bought the property about a year ago, and since then there’s been nothing but nastiness from the management. First of all, the second cat had to go. Okay, fine, sad, but fine. Then they changed the rules to say NO PETS, AT ALL, but we argued that our cat was grandfathered in. So they said «Okay, you can keep the cat, FOR NOW. If you sign your lease to stay here past May, the cat has to go!» Their exact words were «Oh, and if you plan on staying, you’ll have to get rid of THAT CAT.» They couldn’t have said it a little more gently? I mean, hello, animals aren’t just furniture. People get attached to them, you know.
The manager of Patrician apartments, at least the 2115 building, is a complete asshole, all of the time. It’s like his life revolves around giving tenants a hard time. This includes barging in for «inspections» with 5 other frowning pinch-​faced individuals, who proceed to march through the apartment unceremoniously and scrutinize every inch. The reason for the inspection? Renovations (much needed). However, instead of handling the renovations in a cooperative and positive way, they managed to make us feel like we were being buldozed out of the place and that they couldn’t wait to get rid of us.
And don’t even get me started on the physical property. The stove, when we first arrived, was an ancient 60’s or 70’s tiny, poor-​quality unit and the numbers on the oven dial were completely rubbed off, so we had no idea what temperature it would be at. This had to be replaced, and was by Ogden. There were two dead mice stuck to a sticky trap under the kitchen sink in the cabinet. We just never opened that cabinet again. The place was crawling with house centipedes (beneficial beasts, but disgusting) and often had ants in the summer, even in the living room and hallway (they came up through the floor). The bathroom sink and medicine cabinet were literally falling out of the wall, which was made worse after an upstairs leak flooded down the bathroom wall. The faucets all leak continually, which causes mildew, mold, and discoloration on the fixtures. The place was just falling apart, and they had several heating problems throughout the winter. After they were «fixed», the place was still either on fire or completely icy cold.
In addition to all of this, the location is on the edge of what begins to be a sketchier part of the Marquette neighborhood, and cars are broken into out front of the property on a regular basis.
Patrician has a sister unit, Maryland Court Apartments, which has been undergoing renovation for longer than Patrician has, so one can only hope that it’s nicer over there, but I’m betting not much.
