As a marquette student I’m a frequent visitor at tangled. It’s one of the only non-chain restaurants around campus with somewhat healthy options. Tangled is often overwhelming your first time in the store. As many people have said the menu is really large, mostly because all the noodle bowls are design it yourself. People are also dissapointed when they find out its Asian food, and not like a noodles and company. However, if you take your time and go in with an open mind this place can be amazing. The owner Charlie is seriously the nicest guy, as well as most of the employees. When you walk in make sure to say you’re new and you want them to explain how order. They’re really helpful if they know its your first time. Another good thing to do is read the suggestions on the wall or take a look at menu. I like Sarah’s suggestion a lot — it’s a good one if you want something mild and fresh with no broth. Other great things about this place — the dumpling, the cookies, the sandwiches, and seriously CHARLIE. He is the sweetest older man and will go out of his way to make sure you’re having a good experience. Also, this place is less than a year old and while at first it was a little rough and service could be slow they’ve since really improved and are totally put together at this point. The noodles bowls are great and in the end everybody can make their own combination that they like the best! All of my fiends and I go here regularly and everybody is able to find something they like.

Oh Tangled. Being one of the few Asian restaurants in the Marquette University area, I was very excited about its opening a couple of months ago. The owner seems very very genuine and appreciates all the feedback on the food quality, which is nice to see. Sadly, because there are way too many options, I had a hard time deciding what I wanted but went with the 3 cheese szechuan miso base noodles. It definitely sounds weirder than it tastes. It had just the right amount of spiciness to it and the vegetables and noodles were cooked well. The downside of Tangled is its diluted broth. I was lucky with my order this time, but other types of noodle soups almost didn’t have any taste to it – almost like eating plain noodles with water. As one of the few Asian-based restaurants in the area, I really want to see it do well; and with richer broth as a start, I’m sure that this restaurant can definitely up it’s game by a lot.

I went there on opening day. It was not that good. First they got my order wrong, and the broth wasn’t good either. The broth was cold and everything tastes bland. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Gross. Absolutely disgusting. You’d be better off buying ramen cup of noodle and adding kfc chicken to it with Cole slaw. Seriously, that’s EXACTLY what my food tasted like. The owner is super polite– was very nice, as were the other employees. However, the issue is the food was not tasty. My friend and I ordered the noodles with broth, I added sesame chicken with Cole slaw while she added beef and some spicy red chile sauce. Both were tasteless. Do yourself a favor, and honestly go to subway next door. Hearing the word«noodles» I thought it would be something like noodles and company. But no. No way. Just don’t waste your money here.

I am so excited to see a new Asian style noodle in MKE. The restaurant itself is clean and bright. My partner and I chose to make our own noodle concoction-regular size($. 4.99). I chose rice noodle with beef broth infused with home town sweet and spicy and Sze Chuan oil, along with some greens. I added cha su pork belly(+$ 2.50), half Miso egg(+$. 50), and Sze Chuan spicy pork sauce($ 1.50). My partner chose regular size wheat noodle with beef broth infused with Thai lemongrass ginger Sriracha oil and five spice infusion along with some greens. He added roast beef($ 3.50). The food came pretty fast and they tasted pretty good. The broth was savory with its own oil and spices concoction. The noodle, both rice and wheat, are delicious also. The only downside in here is the price. There was only 3 slices of pork belly and approximately 4 slices of roast beef for their prices. The green also consisted of a handful of spring green tossed into the bowl. The meat tasted good and spring greens taste like their regular self. I would expect a bit more extra oomph for the dish especially with their tagged price of extra added meat and eggs.

I see a lot of potential here, especially with the passionate owner running the store. However, there are simply too many options for building noodles and the populace here might not be familiar with noodles. Their miso soup is not too shabby, but their beef bone one was terribly diluted. So far, all I can say is they need to update their menu with noodles already made for the customer. I’m rooting for you tangled!

I agree with the other review — the dish was primarily noodles. I asked for both cucumbers and super greens, but received only cucumbers. Since I got it to go, I didn’t realize that until I was back in my office. I also asked for cold noodles, and followed the instructions to not add a broth, yet the entire dish was quite warm. Very confusing — I’m not sure if I got the add on sauces that I ordered or if I got something different. Meat portion was quite small for $ 3.50. Flavors weren’t impressive. The layout of the restaurant is also quite awkward — there isn’t much room for a line to form before it is out the door and the single door for both in and out traffic got a bit congested. There is a lot of seating space, but not enough ordering/walking space. The flow seems off. There are definitely kinks to be worked out here. I’m willing to cut them some slack because they are newly opened. The owner was on site and offered sample of flatbread and sauces to those of us in line. Might try again in a few months to see if it has improved. Right now, not very impressed — although the entire place looked extremely clean.

I just stopped at Tangled Noodles and More for the first time. I think they have been open just under a week. It took me a few minutes and some explanation from the guys at the counter and the owner to explain how I should order. Basically, you choose a type of noodle, whether you want it hot(in broth) or not(no broth), then you add 1 – 2 sauces, pick 1 dab of color(a vegetable) and one seasoning oil. All of that is included in the price of the bowl. For extra, you can add protein(meat/egg/tofu.) Think of it as customizable, quick Phở. I got a regular size bowl with rice noodles in pork bone broth with sweet sesame sauce, spinach(this week’s super green special) with garlic herb infusion oil and slow roasted brisket. Overall, the dish was very flavorful, the pork bone broth was absolutely superb. Superb. I think Tangled’s forte is their sauces and seasoning oils. I was a bit disappointed in the portion of noodles to everything else. The dish was nearly all noodles. But, seeing as it is «noodles and more,» I guess I should have realized that the majority of what I would be getting was noodles. I would have liked more spinach. I got maybe only 4 – 5 leaves of it. Next time, I will pay extra for more vegetables. The brisket was good, but once again, perhaps a bit smaller portion than I assumed I would get for $ 3.50 extra. If I would have gotten the small size bowl, perhaps the little portions of spinach and meat would have been less noticeable. But for only $ 1 more, I figured the regular size is a better deal. I saved half of the noodles and broth for leftovers, which I will add veggies and meat to myself to beef it up for a second meal. The service: The workers at the counter were patient with me when I was figuring out what to get and the owner(I’m assuming) came out to give me a sample of the flatbread(not sure what kind, but it was good) and he pleasantly suggested a few menu items. Will I go back? Maybe, the jury is still out.
