The Establishment

Very friendly staff, talented stylists, moderate (not cheap…) prices, but worth it for a quality cut. Would definitely go again.

I LOVE THE ESTABLISHMENT! Their staff is highly qualified with friendly, excellent service. They even have Sunday hours. I like the convenience of booking on-​line. I love the diverse clientele. This is a very progressive, high-​quality salon.

That was the best head massage I’ve ever had! I had never been here before but Unilocal suggested it to me since it’s open Sunday and had 5 stars. Thank you Unilocalers for steering me in the right direction. I called around noon to make an appointment and they were able to get me in at 2:30 for a haircut and blow dry. When I walked in I was immediately greeted and offered something to drink. I opted for tea :) then my stylist Kara came out. She was lovely. Super conservative with not taking too much off without checking if I wanted more cut off or not. Very conversational and just a generally glowing personality. She took her time massaging my hair and figuring out what treatment it needed.
I love my hair cut and will definitely be back!

I’ve been coming to The Establishment for about a year and I love it! Jessica took my hair from a dull blonde to platinum and does an amazing job touching it up every 6 weeks. She also manages to blow-​dry it silky smooth without giving me triangle hair, which basically makes her a magician.

Jessica is the bomb! I moved to Milwaukee last year from Maryland/​Northern Virginia and had the *best* stylist ever there. I was so nervous to go to another and I shared that with Jessica. She was personable and professional and worked with me to achieve my requested new look, and is steadfastly patient and has earned my trust through her artistry on my hair, cuts and highlights always applied exactly as I envisioned. I trust Jessica and appreciate her skill so much that I bring my daughter to her, as well. We have straight, blonde hair that shows every cut imperfection… but Jessica delivers perfection every time. I’m so happy with Jessica’s artistry, I feel like a beautiful woman every time I leave her chair! Jessica has real hair designing talent, she is my new *best* and a blessing to impossibly-​difficult-​women to please, like myself! Jessica is a gem!

I had a good time. I’m a pretty laid back person when it comes to my hair maintenance. Went in for a trim and the vibe, secretary and hair stylist (Shannon) were all respectful and laid back. I came out with a great time and a styled trim. Happy with my results and hope to go back when I cut my hair really really short!

I see Ali and she is AMAZING! Love my color which is a dark violet and my cut a pixie. She was able to fix what another salon messed up! Everyone there is friendly and welcoming, have always had a positive experience!

Aweful unfriendly personnel. Called twice for an appointment waited 16 min on the phone. No answer and after the 16 min they just hanged up. Called again, was put on hold again. Bad customer service and courtesy. I will spend my money somewhere else who want business!

I am new to the area and this was my first time at the Establishment. Now I am not one who likes change. I have had the same hair hair stylist for the past three years, so I was a little apprehensive. I explained I just wanted a trim with no too much being taken off. Now usually, this is where the hair stylist will say «sure» and then chop off inches upon inches of hair.
However, Suzanne was great! She not only gave me a great haircut, but she was very nice as well. I’ll definitely be visiting the Establishment again!

I absolutely love Justine and the great things she did to my thick, coarse, Asian hair. She was great with scissors and just *knew* what I needed. I’ve been going here for a few years now with Justine as my main stylist, but unfortunately she left for LA.
So I went in for a trim by a different stylist. I wish I would have left when Justine left. I paid $ 48 for a mediocre cut. I just wanted my hair cleaned up, subtle bottom layers… but I received a haircut that made me want to cry. There was a gap of 7 inches from the shortest layer to the bottom (yes, I measured it) and layers were not blended well. On the right side, it literally looked like someone took a big bite out of my hair. Also bangs weren’t done at all like I had showed in the picture.
I decided not to go back to get it fixed because I don’t want to risk it and don’t think she can give me back my 7 inches of hair. I mean. it wasn’t a horrible cut… but for $ 48 and #1 salon on Unilocal,I expected better. So I decided to go to a stylist who knew Asian hair and had it fixed instead.
Btw I’m not sure why the «Hair Types Specialized In» says Asian hair, but it’s absolutely not true at all. Just look at my pics. :(

I am not a hair girl. I can’t tell stylists what I want and I just want to leave looking good,
Annie has always understood how little I can do on my own and always gives me a cut that I can handle. She is a miracle worker!

I’ve been going to The Establishment for the last year and a half. I loved Shannon’s work – she did amazing things for my very thick unruly hair.
However.
When I went to make an appointment for myself and my partner, we received the most insenstive customer service we’ve experienced in a long while. I’m still rattled from the experience. I asked to make a trim for myself and a men’s clipper cut for my partner.
Apparently, they won’t book clipper cuts for women. Even if the woman presents very masculine. Even if the woman literally has a men’s haircut. Even if the woman has gotten men’s haircuts for years and years and years. We asked and asked and were told, «We just don’t do it that way.»
We. Just. Don’t. Do it. That. Way.
People. This isn’t a «feminine pixie cut» thing that takes forever. It’s literally. A clipper cut. A men’s clipper cut. Previously we’d been driving down to Bayview to Freya (for a men’s clipper cut!), but we wanted something closer to home. Guess we’ll be going back to commuting for an LGBT+ supportive salon.
I called back and finally convinced her to talk to my stylist. After consulting with my partner, we decided we were really too pissed off and disatisified with the whole ordeal and canceled our appointments. We just didn’t want to have to deal with that.
Oh, and by the way.
She’s not my «friend.» Never once did I say «friend.»
She’s my partner. My girlfriend.
To Shannon: I’m sorry, you really were the best. Congrats on the new baby!

Jessica is fantastic! I got more than 10″ cut off and wanted something dramatic and she made me feel at ease the whole visit. She is easy to talk to and confident at what she does. Not only did I get an amazing cut, she also showed me how to style it multiple ways so that I could execute my new fresh-​cut look myself! Take it from someone who has high-​expectations and bounces from salon to salon (me)– Jessica knows what she’s doing and I’ll absolutely be back. I’m no longer a floater; I’m a permanent customer of The Establishment from now on! :)

It was my first time at Establishment yesterday. Ok, so the stylist wasn’t the warmest or most talkative. But I liked the way she danced to the music, we exchanged a few pleasantries, and most importantly, my hair looks AMAZING. I-can’t-stop-looking-in-the-mirror amazing. And I don’t even think I gave her that much direction. She just *knew* what my hair needed. Best haircut I’ve gotten in a long, long time.
The salon itself feels professional, but not like they’re trying to make a big deal out of it. Comfortable. I don’t plan on going anywhere else for a while.

Stopped by for a much-​needed haircut. My stylist (Justine)was great, but she moved to California about a month after I went! I’m sure the rest of the ladies are fantastic.

Came here with a bridal party (I was one of the bridesmaids), so while I don’t know what the cost is per hair style since I wasn’t the one footing the bill, I can say they did a really great job with our hair.
Our bride wasn’t super picky, but wanted us each to have a side braid and a flower in our hair. Rebecca was great about making the style work in my hair, not adhering strictly to the photo (as was encouraged) and figuring out what would work the most natural for a style that isn’t generally my style. It came out really great, and I felt pretty fantastic day-​of.
Also, props to Annie for doing a great quick eye-​shadow job! I’m not generally a makeup wearer and mine were fabulous in two shakes of a jiff.
The vibe here was great, our whole bridal party looked fabulous, and were I to come back to Milwaukee for more hair services, I’d likely head to the Establishment.

I do not like trying new salons. I’ve had bad and mediocre experiences, which is undesirable when dealing with one’s hair. I read the reviews for The Establishment and decided to go for it. I am so excited to get my next haircut there!
Shannon is amazing. She’s so adorable, like a little doll, and so smiley. I am terrible at explaining what I want done, but she perfectly understood my weirdly vague description. She started with a scalp massage and I almost asked her to marry me. Shannon is fun to chat with, putting me at ease while she worked her magic. When she finished, I loved my cut and left the salon feeling very fancy. I made sure to have plans that night so I could show off my new hair.
