Now a piece of paper, plastic or random, errant trash I can understand. The big truck pulls in, picks up the trash can, hauls it way overhead and violently shakes it. The wind catches whatever or objects collide — they are knocked out of the way and onto the street below.
But this morning, as my partner was leaving for an appointment, I went to the curb to collect the already emptied receptacles. Easy., right? NO. Now, I have to get fully dressed, go out with gloves and a shovel to retrieve the dog sh*t that he shook out all over my street. At least a dozen pieces of varying size and degree of decay.
It wouldn’t be so bad if I had gotten the appropriate response when I called the company just now. I asked for someone who could help me with the specific situation. She said she could (but obviously wasn’t GOING to…) I told her that as of this morning’s service, I now have dog crap on my clean, quiet, undeserving street. She asked me how that happened. REALLY? I told her my theory, as I didn’t actually witness the pick-​up. Her response? «I’ll let the driver know. Thank you.» No apology. No sincerity. No concern. No offer of reconciliation, no bill credit.
I got the same treatment on a previous incident where a driver hit and crunched our mailbox. My neighbor saw it happened. I examined the box and called it in. I only got voicemail that time. And never a return call. No credit. No letter or note. Nothing. Just like today…
They know they have us all by the short hairs because it’s all done by boundary and contract with the county. We have no choice in the matter. Guess I’ll just take it to their office next time when I pay my bill. How many pounds of dog poop equal a dollar?
