Unfortunately, both the food and service were disappointing. We were seated at 6:27, and a busser brought water and some warm bread soon thereafter. A server came by and asked if we’d like something to drink, and we asked her to give us just a minute, as we were looking at the wine list. We waited and waited, and finally, after 7pm, my husband flagged down the manager, and asked if we could get a drink. It was unbelievable to me that we sat for over 30 minutes with menus in front of us without any service. Shouldn’t the manager have noticed without being prompted? He brought drinks, but we were almost halfway finished with them before the server returned to ask about our order. She apologized for the wait, and she said she would rush our appetizer order. The«rush order» took about 15 minutes. We had asked for more bread, but had to ask again when the appetizer and wine were served. The sampler platter was ok… the ahi was excellent, but everything else was so-so. The artichoke-spinach dip was lukewarm, and the crostinis served with it were cold(not just room temperature.) Crab cake was very dry. We had been finished with the appetizer, and had set our plates at the edge of the table, and after more than 10 minutes, the server came by to ask if we were ready for our salads. During this time, another server and the manager passed by our table several times, but didn’t offer to clear our plates. The salads, served table-side, were generous in size, but weren’t anything special. It was after 8pm by the time we got our entrees. The plates looked nice, but the all the food, except for the broccolini, was very salty. My tournedos were cooked as requested and were very tender, but I couldn’t finish them because the sauces were so salty. My husband’s lamb chops and twice-baked potato were also so salty he didn’t eat much of them. The bacon completely overpowered the flavor of the(bacon-wrapped) scallops, even after unwrapping them, and they were overcooked. The busser brought boxes for what we couldn’t eat, and I will say that she was a bright spot in the otherwise lackluster service. The server dropped the check, and we did notice that we weren’t charged for the initial drinks, but no one bothered to point that out and apologize. My husband put his credit card out, and again we waited. He visited the restroom downstairs, but the card still hadn’t been picked up when he got back. All in all, another 10 – 15 minutes. Again, the manager passed by our table several times, but seemed more interested in checking the soccer score on TV than making sure customers were being taken care of. By the time we left, it was 8:40, more than two hours after being seated. I would have considered the meal a good value if the food had been better, because bread, salad, potato and vegetable were included, and portions were impressive overall. I had high hopes for this restaurant after seeing its favorable reviews, unfortunately our experience was nothing like that.

Wow! What a surprise this place was. All my points: Waitress Cassie Amazing! Didn’t rush our meal — hate getting my entrée when still eating my app. Food was amazing! I had the sea bass special, my husband seafood linguine. They start with warm bread and butter. Not many do this anymore. Usually everything is ala carte and price included veggies as well Food cooked perfect Restaurant is calming warm and welcoming. Definitely be back

Worst experience ever! I will add, the meal wasnt eaten but prior to that the busser was wonderful. Came with a 2 year old and 6 year old and seated on the 2nd floor next near a large party. We placed our order and all was well, when suddenly and loudly my 2 year old started to cry, I couldnt figure out immediately what was wrong as this isnt typically like her. I had literally just picked her up and figured out her leg was stuck in the straps of the highchair and was trying to console her. I get it, this is a nicer restaurant and I dont want to interrupt anyones meal. If she didnt calm down of course I would step out or get the food to go worst case scenerio. I didnt even get the chance to calm her down as a male manager with an accent approached and said«sorry, the other table is being interrupted, you have to go». SERIOUSLYYOU A HOLE? As one who works in management, its much nicer to offer a solution! He couldve offered to relocate us(there were plenty of tables downstairs close to the noisier casino floor), offered to box our food up, something!!! Nope!!! He kicked us out like we didnt matter!!! So, long story short dont bother coming here if you have small children, and Ill tell anyone who will listen to not even bother. And thanks to that manager for making an already embarrasing situation way worse.

5th anniversary dinner at CVI steak last night. Wonderful service from Chris! Husband had salmon tartar and the New York while I had lobster bisque and the ribeye. Both of us chose the au’gratin potatoe, husband did not enjoy but I thought was wonderful. The food was amazing with that small exception. The house salad is a really interesting blend of vegetables and the dressing is divine. Chris went the extra bit to provide us an anniversary piece of cheesecake, very lovely!

Wow what a wreck. Brought or 6 year old and 8 year old grandkids last night to celebrate our 8 year old birthday. The restaurant was not particularly busy at 4:50 pm. Our grandson wanted try escargot. We waited and waited finally after being told by our waitress that they served our order to another table we received dish around 5:45. Got salads around 6. Watching other diners receive entrees but nothing for us. At 6:20 talked to manager about not receiving our dinner at the outrageous wait time. Finally at 6:30 got our entrees. By that time kids were tired and the wait just ruined the whole party thing. When my wife made reservation she gave them information this was a birthday party. We also alerted waitress. When we finally got desert at 6:55 the waitress handed my wife a candle and a lighter. Wow. The last straw they overcharged us for deserts that were included in dinner price and the uninterested manager gave us a $ 25 discount on a $ 125 ruined party. The manager never left the check in area worthless. As a result we had two kids falling asleep worn out from waiting and the concern from the staff was very poor. Will never go back. Thanks a lot for wrecking our special birthday party

This is my second visit to the CVI Steakhouse. The first visit was outstanding — 5 star food and service. This time — not so much. I asked the server how their medium rare steak was prepared. She said red middle. That’s what I wanted so I ordered it medium rare. It came closer to medium well cooked all the way through with a pink center. When I complained a bit, I got a lot of push back from the waitress and especially from the manager who said that WAS medium rare but if I insisted, he would replace it. I don’t think it’s my responsibility, as the customer, to sit there and argue with the manager. Mr. Manager: If the customer is not happy — make them happy. When I spend over $ 100 for dinner in Minden, it should be a 5 Star dinner! So 5 stars for my first visit and 1 star for this visit — thus the 3 star rating. Will I go there again? Probably, but this time I will talk to the cook before ordering.

A very nice steakhouse inside a much nicer than usual casino/hotel. It reminds me of what The Nugget used to be. But, the steaks are nothing special at all and quite honestly I’ve had better at Sizzler. For 30.00 my wife’s filet was certainly disappointing. The standard salad was actually the highlight of the meal. The real negative was dodging wait staff and casino help. The employees here obviously view this place as their space and take the right of way unerringly. I detoured around the outstretched legs of two casino staff who were nearly lying across a bank of slot machines right inside the door. I then waited for a loudly cackling employee who dominated the host desk while I waited to check in. As I was being led to my seat I lost the bluff at the first intersection to a rapidly moving bus boy with a large tray of dirty dishes. Finally, on the way out I stepped aside for two more casino workers who had to have the middle of the aisle in two separate instances. All in all a 3 star experience at a 5 star price.

Solid four stars. Four of us, but only three pieces of bread? Not a good start. Also, ordered garlic with the steak and didn’t get it. Otherwise, service was good, tolerant of one of our diner’s demands for special iced coffee, etc. Rib eye steak was FANTASTIC. The bread– once I got some– was FANTASTIC. I’d come back just for those two items.

Wow! Really, wow. What a wow-worthy gem here in the Carson Valley. I was stuck at Carson Valley Inn«on a layover», and I was getting hungry. I had just flown into Reno and done the drive to Minden, so I was hungry. And I decided to give CV Steak a try. Once I was seated, servers promptly came to my table to fill my water glass and take my order… And start me with a bread & butter plate! Wow. Not only did it arrive soon, but the bread was warm and tasted pretty fresh. So far, we were off to a good start. Then, I placed my order. My martini arrived, and it was both sweet & strong. The salad then arrived. It had iceberg lettuce, and FYI I can’t stand iceberg lettuce. However, this was the only lowlight of tonight’s dinner. The seafood linguine later arrived, and I was blown away. I rarely treat myself to seafood, so it was awe-inspiring to taste beautifully tender scallops and perfectly done shrimp alongside immaculately cooked linguine and a delectable lemon cream sauce. This may truly be the best dish I’ve ever had in Northern Nevada(so far). All the grub was so great that I just couldn’t help myself. I had to try dessert! And wow, the gran marnier cheesecake was so lusciously rich, hearty, and exotically sweet that I had difficulty pushing it away! Yep, it was that great. All in all, my first CV Steak experience was a deliciously enlightening one. Again, if my only complaint is iceberg lettuce in the house salad, then that’s hardly anything. Way to go, Carson Valley Inn!

This was my second visit to this steak house; the first we were seated up the stairs for a friend’s birthday. That visit, the staff seemed to be accommodating for the balloons I bought and the food was delicious. I didn’t get adventurous that visit and just ordered vodka cranberries, so nothing too exciting to report on there. This second trip was so awful that it prompted me to finally write a review, as I won’t be going back. First off, this place is inside the Carson valley casino in Minden. I’m sort of surprised — but not really, given the demographics — that it received such good reviews; the people must not venture out much from there quaint little town. As for the atmosphere, it feels as though you’re walking into a typical casino restaurant, nothing special or fancy that differentiates it from any other café or Carrows-esque-type establishment. There’s a bar with a few tables to sit, have a drink and wait for your table(even though you had a reservation and there were PLENTY of other tables available). What I first noticed was that the drinks were terrible! Not so much the taste — although they were definitely frugal with their alcohol — but the presentation. I ordered the Cosmo; the color was weak, there was sentiment floating all around and he just plopped a lime right in(versus putting it on the glass rim); it just looked sooo lazy and ugly — no presentation whatsoever. When we finally got seated, I then ordered a Washington Apple — or a Jackass, as they call it. This, too, was blasé; it looked exactly like the Hudson River(crap floating around and all), only with a squashed cherry residing at the bottom. The girl that brought our water and bread came over to us 15 minutes after we had been seated to inquire if we were helped, as we still didn’t have our drinks at that time. Hell, it took 10 minutes from being seated just for the waitress to address us. The food was MEH, the waitress belonged somewhere else(see: Dennys) and not in a place that is charging $ 30+/plate. The whole vibe was very cafeteria and not a steak house. I can go to Tamarack Junction for the same price, but for a 5-star experience/scene — not to mention 2 minutes from my house. You couldn’t pay me to go back here.

I wish I had the time to write a proper review for such an amazing restaurant. Alas, it must suffice to say that the location(inside a casino) should not deter even the most discriminatory diner. C V Steak is home to first class service with both a front and back server for each table. The dining atmosphere is romantic and tasteful. And most importantly, the dishes that come out of the kitchen are beyond superb. My wife and I ate there twice while staying in the area for a short while. You can bet we’ll return if we’re ever even NEAR Minden again!

Steak here is truly awesome! Not just for value but quality and the preparation. Been here 3+ times now and I always come here when I am in town. Who knew a small town would host this classy Frank Sinatra white table cloth fine eatery. $ 19 early bird special I thought I get something mediocre. Au contrary the hard to make top sirloin was juicy! Something a fine cook like myself or even sizzler cannot master. Including salad and one of the best crème brûlée ever! Crème brûlée has a hard sugar smokey crust… Omg Awesome!!! Crab cakes was the only ding as it was just mediocre fried with no taste of crab. Staff excellent, romantic and awesome food Who thought petty coat junction minden has steak house better than most Bay Area places including Mortons and Ruth Chris. Be be back again and again!

Who knew you would find the best restaurant in Carson Valley inside a casino at the Carson Valley Inn? The filet mignon is the best EVER! Appetizers and fish dishes rank right up there with the meat. Jon Michel heads up a great operation — all the servers seem genuinely happy and enjoy serving their patrons. This excellent customer service makes for an outstanding dining experience. The staff is friendly, the restaurant is clean and the food is delicious and fresh. Who could ask for more? The bar is a good stop after dinner — ask Dave or Rick to make you a chip shot — they’re awesome bartenders.

CV Steak: Friday, Feb. 27, 2015 To place this visit in perspective you’d need to be in a great mood following a long and stressful week, and that’s the Friday night we were celebrating. A friend had a gift certificate, and we were invited to be her guest at CV Steak. Being CV Steak fans, we were in and we were not disappointed. My wife and I arrived a few minutes early and we were seated right away. We reviewed the ‘wine by the glass’ options, and selected a Chardonnay and a Petite Sirah. The Chardonnay was good, the Petite Sirah was on the thin side and I wouldn’t order it again. The rest of our group arrived and we ordered some appetizers. We had the escargots and the sashimi, both were good. The heated garlic butter around the escargot was so tasty we had to get extra bread to sop up all the good stuff. This will be the first thing ordered next time. As we were arriving during the early dinner window my wife was able to take advantage of the four course price fix meal, and she enjoyed it again. She loves the salmon on this menu, and she was able to opt out of the potato side dish and they subbed in some extra vegetables. I had the blue cheese encrusted 9 oz. filet mignon. Did you read, «blue cheese encrusted»? Let me just say, «I loved it.» It was cooked the way I wanted it, and was tasty from the moment it arrived. I’d order this again as well. But there is a tough part. There are many items on the menu that look really good, and so I’ll need to look really consider my options next time. There are a couple of things that you should know, as they may bother some people. First, we brought a bottle of wine, and there is a $ 15 corkage for doing so. I don’t mind the corkage, but I know some folks do. They did not tell us about this, and so this may also create some tension for folks when the check arrives. Also, the fourth person in our group was a child, and she and her mom split their dinner, resulting in a $ 4 charge for the split. The service was attentive and effective. We had a plethora of water served to the table, extra bread to sop up garlic butter, and additional silverware as plates were taken. Heck, they even brought out the crumber, as my space was a mess from the bread crumbs. To wind this up, we had another great meal at CV Steak. We’ll be back, but, unfortunately, probably not with someone who has a gift certificate.

It was our last evening in Minden, NV and I wasn’t sure where to have for dinner. Eric, than, brought up the dinner spot we tried to eat at the night before but couldn’t because the waiting list was 2 hours. I was surprised, but intrigued because I knew this spot was pricey. LOCATION: The restaurant is located in Carson Valley Casino. It’s a casino which looks a bit run down on the outside and in the hallways in which we accessed to head to the restaurants. I expected to walk through and around a lot of hallways and corners to get to this restaurant. To my surprise, it was easy as the sign clearly shows where to go. SERVICE: Reservations is highly recommended for this place. As the waiting list may be at 2 hours at the most. On our second attempt, we made reservations first this time and were able to get a table right away upon our arrival. Once we were seated, water was poured for us right away(I love it when they do that). Drinks and food took a minute, but was definitely worth the wait. Our water was always topped off and you know me and water(we’re like best friends). INTERIOR: There are two(2) dining rooms. We sat in the second(2) one which was a step level. The ambiance was warm, pleasant and intimate. The lighting were warm in red, orange and slight yellow which softens the energy. The décor was elegant w/cream wall paper, bricks for columns, well maintained booth seats and tables, and a cute light fixture that takes me back in time for a bit. FOOD&DRINKS: I ordered the Mine Shaft(aka Mahattan) and Eric ordered Tumble Weed(which was the Lemon Drop) martini. Which I have to say, were delicious. My clumsiness knocked out 10% of my drink, but I think it was a good thing because I barely finished it. Starting with the appetizer we had the Sampler Platter. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and cut, the crab cake was so fresh(the freshest and best crab cake I’ve tasted), hearty warm spinach dip w/garlic bread(yum!) and the Ahi tuna was on point. Finally, my main course(after I finished the house salad), I had the Seafood Linguini which I have to say was perfect. It wasn’t too salty nor too bland, but(just like the preschool story of The 3 Bears and Goldilocks) just right(I didn’t feel like a fat cow afterwards). VERDICT: I would love to return here again for a lovely dinner.
